how easy is it to get into NYU?
they accept like 250 people....
i heard there is a big drop-out rate for 1st year students. is this true?
is the program well known/respected?
i have NYU at the bottom of my list as a back up, but dont know if i should take it off....
will they reject me just based on the fact that my GPA is 3.5/3.3?
their stats are 3.1/2.9...
lemme know what ya'll think

I think there is a conspiracy from NYU that paids people to post on SDN. There are so many threads, I feel like I'm being spammed.

1) debatable
2) not a question
3) there is numerically 10-15 people that drop out. % wise from a 250 student body, not significantly higher. It's a school that will not go out of its way to make sure you don't flunk out, but it's not out to flunk you.
4) they're accredited by the ADA so yes they turn out exactly the same caliber of dentists. No one cares where you went to school.
5) apply to the schools you want to.

This may open up a "can of worms", but YES it does matter. In short people would, inclding yourself, would not personally rank school when they apply. Thats not to say NYU sucks, Ithinks its excellent and it was number three on my list. But its a fact of life, some places are sought after, hence thier importance, however minor or major, before/during/after dental school.

See thread "Does Prestige Matter".

This is all true but it still doesn't matter lol. Once you start working your patients could care less as long as u give them good service. I still don't know where my dentist went to. I think he came from china as a dentist and took his tests way back when. Still makes his millions, has like 3 practices. Also if you specialize then you might go to another school maybe one with a better name and that will be the school that will be of more importance. All in all the only problem is probably the city (environment which is uncomfortable for most) and the cash you gotta pay out and it seems that the majority on SDN see NYU as the most uncomfortable.

I think in totality a good school is one that gives the most comfort and ease (possibly less struggling to pass) to a student thats why students want to go there and it makes it more competitive, also the cheapest. The teaching is all the same the material is all the same. Also each person has his/her own comfort zone with each school, but like i said i think NYU as a majority feel that its the most comfortable.

I hope i got the message across

You have to find the school that is the right fit for you (given your preferences, circumstances, etc.). For me, NYU was at the top of my list. I love living in a big city, being in large classes, having access to more resources, etc. I got in to Penn, Maryland, OSU, and Temple, and was invited for interviews (that I declined) at Boston and Pacific. All this to say, some people would think my decision to attend NYU is crazy. But I don't. I think it is the right fit for me, and this is all that matters.

My stats, in case you are wondering:

DAT: 20,20,20
GPA: science: 3.6 overall: 3.5

Good luck to you. Make your own observations, and have informed discussions with diverse people, and base your decisions on those (not rumors you hear on SDN).
