I recently gave interviews at both Mt. Sinai and NYU. I really enjoyed the interview process at both schools and thought that they both had a lot to offer.

However, many of the students at both schools had nothing but negative things to say about their counterparts at the other school. I found that suprising, as the comments ranged from laughable ("They just suck.") to worryingly compettive ("I wouldn't give them a glass of water if they were dying of thirst."). Whenever the other NYC schools came up (i.e. Cornell, Columbia and AE), nothing negative was said about them to that extent.

So I was wondering, is there some kind of unsaid rivalry that I should know about concerning Mt. Sinai and NYU? I really liked both schools and would be privileged to attend either. It just struck me as very strange that some of the students would rival each other like that for no apparent reason.

Yea, I found that wierd as well. Mount Sinai is part of NYU and the diplomas read Mount Sinai of NYU. The connection is lukewarm at best. It's like NYU and Sinai aren't on talking terms

Ah that makes a bit of sense. But I wouldn't think that funding/administration problems would trickle down to the students' level. Eh too, maybe I just met an unrepresentative group of the student sample.

Both are distinct institutions and have their own administrations, budget, etc. The only thing they share is the name.

Hmm, well then I guess it must have just been coincidental with the students I met. Anyhoo, both schools rock! I love Manhattan!
