Im not going to compare the school to NYU, but on its own, I will give you my pros and cons of BU.
Pros:
Class size isnt too big...but large enough where you get a whole bunch of personalities. The best part of BU, from my experience, is my classmates...as well as the other classes. Pretty cool bunch of kids. Everyone is chill, friendly, outgoing, etc...
The faculty is pretty cool too. You get to know all of them and they all know exactly who you are. In fact, by your 4th year, you will have definitely gone out to parties and stuff with some of the faculty. Having such good relations with faculty makes things a lot better.
Boston is a nice city...Casinos are a quick drive away, haha.
You get a fairly decent clinical experience. I know a lot of schools have externships and stuff, but BU has one that is 10 weeks long and that 10 weeks is loaded with a ton of general dentistry. I saw about 8 patients a day for the whole time period. Got a lot of experience.
Cons:
The school makes things a little bit more difficult than it could be. It seems like you have to constantly jump through hoops to survive. This mostly has to do with the clinic, as first 2 years outside of the clinic are no problem at all.
The tuition is high...if you have other options, you may want to look into them. Ive taken out 245K, which comes out to $3500 a month over 10 years to pay it back. Obviously, I need to stretch that out to a longer time period or I wouldnt be able to eat, but you get my drift.
The city is COLD. Im from Texas and dealing with cold weather can really bea struggle at times.
Basically, my only complaint is that the school keeps us a lot busier than we could be...Its not that I want to cruise through dental school, but things can be run more smoothly. For example, booking appointments. Instead of being having a system where you can log onto the computer and make appointments, you have to show up to school to make the appointments. Its a first come, first serve deal...so students will show up to school at 6 am to stand in line and wait to book appointments. Its silly. The 4th years get priority over 3rd years for appointments, so during your 3rd year, if you want certain appointment times, then you really need to get to school by 6:30 or so if you want to get yourself a certain appointment.
Another annoyance is the paper work you have to do for each patient. Things called "written analysis", record reviews with your mentor, etc...I can get more into it, but none of it would make any sense for you guys until you step foot into the clinic.
I guess the first few years of dental school wore me out and now I dont want to deal with little things here and there...but my only real complaints have to do with unnecessary "busy" work once you roll into 3rd year and beyond.
