For those who have been accepted, what was your method of hearing from the school?

I called today and asked the status of my application and they said that all decisions have been mailed out. But I know some of you heard by email, so does that mean if i have not heard by email, I will probably get at best waitlisted and at worst, rejected?

thanks.

I was just accepted via a letter in the mail. It was on a single page, but it was supposed to have an enclosure which it didn't. I definitely thought I was rejected.

NYU is one strange school. I received an acceptance via e-mail, stating only the following:

"Congratulations! A letter of acceptance has been mailed to your permanent address today."

It looks they have like Hal from 2001, A Space Odyssey in charge of things. A few days later, I received a letter in the mail with a card asking me to make my decision and mail it back to them within two weeks.

Does anyone know if NYU has just one waitlist or do they have an alternates list or if the darn thing is ranked???

I got an e-mail the day they sent my letter. Sure enough, the letter came three days later. It's a thin, small envelope, as the enclosure is quite small (just a card). They want you to write them a letter to accept a place rather than sending back a form.

Has anyone else (besides elbow 323) gotten into NYU who did not get an e-mail prior to receiving the acceptance letter? I called the school, was told a letter was mailed to me Feb. 21st, but it still hasn't arrived and I'm on pins and needles. I REALLY want to go to NYU and want to know if no e-mail=waitlist or rejection. Thanks a lot for any info!

Should I apply to NYU with a 3.3? I read somewhere that it's not a good idea to apply if you have below a 3.4....what to do?

I received my NYU acceptance by mail and have never received any email confirmation. In fact, I don't believe that my interview request was emailed either. All regular USPS.

Is there any way to see what the range of GPA's for accepted students from your undergrad is? At some schools, a 3.3 is high, at others it's low, and average at the rest.

All accepted and all on the un-ranked wait-list are supposed to be notified (when mailed) by March 15. (Never fixate on exact dates, nor when you may expect to hear or read the news). All not accepted from the wait-list should hear by August 15. If you are on the wait-list, be fairly optimistic, although the number accepted from wait lists varies year by year for every medical school.

NYU is a strong medical school, which means that it tends to skim from the top applicants. BUT, GPA alone is not always the decisive factor. NYU's pages in the MSAR include no statistics for the entering class.

I'm now officially on the NYU wait list. What do I need to do to get accepted?? I'm working this year, so nothing has really changed over the course of the year that would be worthy of an update letter. Also, although I am very interested in NYU, it is not necessarily my first choice. (I haven't heard anything back from my first choice school) So I don't feel comfortable writing them a letter of intent proclaiming them as my "first" choice. Should I just send a more general letter of interest? Is this alone enough to improve my chances of acceptance?
I would really appreciate any advice.

For those of you on the waiting list - I'll soon be withdrawing so hopfeully one of you get the spot. Also, NM_grll, instead of saying that NYU is your "first choice," you could tell them that NYU is "a top choice," implying that you are very interested in it but it isn't neccessarily #1.
