So much for the rumor stating NYUCD is trying to kick out the bottom 25%

"Dear Class of 2007 and 2008:

In an effort to enhance the learning environment for our students at the
dental college, the Office of Academic Affairs has a new addition to our
team; Ms.Jane Rosenthal, a learning specialist. Jane will be working closely
with me to help our students reach their full potential in the dental
program. Our goal for this academic year is 100% retention of all students.
We love you all so much that we want your here for four full years!

Over the past 5 years I have noticed that students who struggle in the
program often could use a sharpening of their study, time management and
test taking skills. Jane has a long and impressive history working with
students on these skills and she has been successful in making students
successful. This year we will be offering workshops throughout the year on
various topics we believe will be beneficial to your studies. Most likely,
workshops will be offered on a weekly basis and a schedule will be emailed
to your class.

We hope you will attend as many workshops as possible and feel free to email
us with any suggestions that you may have for future workshops or ways to
improve these workshops.

Sincerely,

Dr.Anthony Palatta
Director of Academic Advising"

I think this is exactly the kind of support NYU should providing its students. This is great news. This type of action not only will help students, it will also improve image of NYU dental school.

thts pretty pathetic of u to say that. i'm sure any applicant, especially all of us who are "subpar" would love to get an (any actually) acceptance from NYU. this just shows that they want to help the students and make learning more effective. completely disagree with what u say.

What do you call subpar stats ? NYU stats are comparable to those of Boston, Tufts, Temple, Indiana & many others and higher than those of Howard & Meharry. In my opinion, NYU is a better school than all the schools I named . And it can become a super dental school if they make a few changes. They need to quit scaring away/ dropping students in order to attract higher caliber students.

This new step is in the right direction.

Once again, they do nto drop students. Students fail like 8 classes their first year and must be let go. This is the students own fault. Its not l;ike students are passing and being kicked out. My uncle is a grad of NYU 99' and he told me thi. That people just can't handle the program.

Failing 8 classes  That's almost hard to believe. Wow, NYU is very generous! Those guys wouldn't last one semester at my school!
Two of the students from my class had to repeat 1st yr. One of them only had ONE F in 1st semester, ONE F in 2nd semester. But because his/her GPAs were less than the minimum 2.5. They had to repeat one yr. I always thought that the school was being very harsh to them :( shown no mercy! Now I know.

The best school is the school that you're attending :D

Accepting subpar students is often signing a death wish for those students. Often they can't cut it and end up leaving or being dismissed, with thousands of dollars in loans to pay back.

Schools NOT accepting subpar students is actually doing those students a favor, not hurting them.
