So I just started looking into OCPM, and so far it looks like a good school. But i wasnt finding any info about a excercise facility. Is there one and is it good? Silly question I'm sure, but I was wondering. I have thier catolog and it didnt mention it.

We have memberships to Bally Total Fitness. We do have an exercise room there, but it's small. That's why the school made a deal with Bally's.

well that sounds good. Is there any more positives/negatives you can tell me about that school?

positive to me

to each his own

As a Steeler fan...that's a negative.

I have been accepted to Scholl and OCPM, I loved Scholl and thought it would be hands down the school that I would go to. But OCPM has a good thing going I think. I don't know a whole lot in regards to how being affiliated with a medical school works and how it "makes a program better" but I feel OCPM does well on it's own. The school is top of the line, I mean it's brand new. I agree I am not a huge Ohio fan but the cost of living sure beats the costs of living in Chicago suburbs. I think both are great schools and I am going to have a tough time deciding but right now I am thinking if you have a family cost of living is a huge factor. This is why I am leaning to OCPM, if you are single then I would Scholl may be a better choice only because the cost of living won't necessarily kill you as much as it would a person with a wife and two kids. Anyway, look at what is best for you, every person's situation is different.

How do you guys feel that an indepedent school is better than one affiliated with a university or graduate medical program? If OCPM was affiliated with Case Western or Cleveland Clinic, I think that would be amazing ( I don't mean having a few faculty from Case dental/med/nursing schools coming to the campus to teach a class or two). I feel that if some or all goals of resolution 2015 are to be met, we need our pod schools to have an affiliation with a DO/MD school. I actually think the new pod school in Pomona, California will be good in the future since its part of Western U of the Health Sciences and a DO school. Same thing with OCPM (and DMU, Barry, NYCPM, and Temple) to ONLY accept the MCAT. Right now Ohio takes the MCAT but in addition, the GRE, DAT, PCAT, and OAT. We are going to podiatry/podiatric medical school, not dental/pharmacy/optometry school. However, from reading on these forums, I understand they are becoming more strict with their admissions which is definitely a positive.

Also, the facilities at OCPM are not brand new. It used to be a Reality One building that was bought out by the college. I know the lecture halls were added in (saw the construction when I did an internship at OCPM). I never saw the inside but it seems like a nice place.

the actual building may not be brand new (besides the lecture hall addition) but everything on the inside of the building is brand new. everything. the entire building was rennovated. so, its more of a technicality. i'd still say its a brand new facility.

What I thought was interesting is how hard it was to find an interview time with OCPM. I tried like three dates and everyone of them was full when I finally got into an interview there where 9 other students there which was at least double from any other school I went to (Scholl, NYCPM, Barry).

I too think they have a good thing going @ OCPM and am currently leaning that way as my 1st school of choice.

P.S. Wacky Fizzle, c'mon excercise isn't important what are you going to be a doctor or something.

haha of course it isnt important! What was I thinking??? Crazy talk from studyng for the MCATs too much i think.

yes, perhaps the term "brand new" needs a little defining. lets take a walk:
"...and to my left, Mr. Jewmongous, you see our lecture halls. come on in and have a look. this is a brand new, never-before used electronic podium which captures all voice lectures and any writing by professors and is posted online, usually within 24 hours. we do this so students don't have to come to class! down the hall a ways you'll find our state-of-the-art anatomy lab. the equipment, which too is brand new, (well, except for maybe the stainless steel body tables) makes learning a little fun! this eye-cam reaches over the heads of our professors and students during dissection and body reviews. the images are then broadcast on our 24 42" plasma televisions throughout the lab, ensuring that students who care to view the goings on can..." should i keep going?? are you catching on by this point?? think of the term "brand new" in the context of "the media made available to students in facilitating an effective conveyance of an arguably well-rounded podiatric medical education."
another way to view this is by thinking of the term "college" as not simply an edifice, rather as an quazi-intangible collection of information required, in this case, by a student wishing to transition into the role of a doctor. although the information may not be, in whole, "new", the method by which the information is conveyed is definitely new, and thus, the material is able to adapt slightly, and all of the sudden, you have a new college! new as in classes/information now were/was not presented in the way they/it are/is now at the old school, so for lack of a better term, OCPM is a new school.
i think i like explanation #1 a little better.
in any event, OCPM is pretty darn cool!

please don't nit pick usage. i think you know what is meant by OCPM being new. if not, it has been my pleasure to clarify things for you.

as for parity, and thus affiliation with an MD/DO ( i assume that is the big issue--you think that by being affiliated with allo/osteo, we may be regarded a bit higher or something along those lines?) it really doesn't matter. i will preach this until i die. the only reason i believe parity on a national level would be beneficial or important would be so that we can bill/charge at MD/DO-equivalent rates. affiliation with such a program hasn't changed the problem yet, nor will it in the foreseeable future. i promise it doesn't matter! come to school, work hard, and ill bet you 10 bucks you will have a wonderful life...even as a podiatrist! 🙂

I guess I was thinking that by being with a DO/MD program there would be more oppertunity to meet more people and experience different things? The POD classes seem so tiny

what, specifically, would be something you imagine you could experience in a "combine" program?? the networking factor could be very good, i do agree with that, however i think there will be plenty of time to network during and after res., as the chances of you ending up practicing in the same area as your DO/MD friends is probably pretty slim. who knows.

I called and got the first date for an interview that I asked for. Maybe it's not so busy anymore since I interview Jan. 4th. We'll see how many students there are at the interview, it will be my first!🙂

Narkotics: 👍👍 for your explanation, what are you some kind of genius or something. That explanation was written better than my 2 yr long research paper for English 4920.

ldsrmdude: Congrats on your interview with OCPM, I think you will enjoy it there.

Us Idaho boys have to stick together. I was born and raised in Declo, ID right on the snake river, but have lived in Logan, UT for the last 7 years.

What part of ID are you from?
