I hear externs, residents, fellow colleagues talk about the OCPM merger lately. Having gone there almost 30 years ago it breaks my heart along with other guys of my era and before. I wish all you young guys the best with that and hope it works out.
Podiatry school was part of Cleveland for almost 100 years. We were always in the heart of downtown everything medical, Case, Univ hosp, Cleveland Clinic, etc... Even then we were never or rarely aknowledged by the big boys. We were at best, the red headed step child or secret love child around there. We really didnt have much respect there despite always being filled with pr of how integral we were. Ok, sure.
We all had a dream though which we were subtly told and whole heartedly believed that one day the school would go big time. Part of the ClINIC, part of Case, the Univer Hospitals, heck, even OSU.
I dont look at this move in a positive light nor do most of my bros. It's like finally getting that big coaching job you have been working toward, in LITTLE LEAGUE! I only lived in Cleveland 4 years and practice light years away from there but I know enough that affiliating with something like Kent that is little more than a glorified Community College on the map because of the Vietnam tragedy is like marrying down.
Sorry, when we were in school dudes had degrees from Michigan, Mich State, OSU, Notre Dame, Boston, Nebraska, Florida, USC, Cal., etc... Who on earth wants to go to KSU after that? Maybe admission critera has changed?
Anyway, that is the deal. Older guys dreamed of marrying up into the Case, Clvnd Clinic, Univ Hosp thing and not going to KSU, sorry, it was always a bit of a joke years ago academic wise.
We busted our a*ses for you guys, knocked down the hospital doors, got you priv, went through h*ll you never imagined and for what, KSU? Again, sorry but it is like taking a fat girl to the prom. Young bros, I wish you all the best but it makes all lot of dudes sad. Not really trying to start a fight, just my opinion.
