contraceptive= novcon 50.

Thanks! (I'm ****ting bricks right now, btw)

Nope. The only proven antibiotic that interacts is rifampin

Don't Antibiotics like Penicillin also decrease the effectiveness of BC, though?

In theory yes. In could disrupt the enterohepatic recirculation of the glucoronide conjugate...but has never been proven to be the case. I always tell my patients the risk is 1000x more likely to happen if you take your OC incorrectly.

FYI, it’s actually a combo antibiotic/steroid. Tobramycin & Dexamethasone. I agree with Cana, don't worry too much.

Just for clarification or for interest, the theory is as follows:
the antibiotic destroys the normal flora (bacteria) in the intestine that is responsible for the linkage with glucoronide (acts like a carrier) and reuptake of the hormones from the intestine. Therefore, a decrease in hormone levels could occur....but has never been clinically proven except for Rifampin.
Dexamethasone..has no effect whatsoever on OC.

Dear Forum,

What do you suppose is the systemic absorption of topical tobradex?
