I just got home to find a message on my answering machine from the director of admissions at Rochester. I have to call her back tomorrow. Hope it's good news! 😱

guardian (and everyone else who is waiting) -

I am not sure if was last year or the year before, but at Medical College of WI, someone got called either the day before classes started or the day classes started. It was something ridiculous... but the student made it in time.

It's certainly not ideal, but he made it in. don't give up hope.

HOPE88-I'm willing to bet money it's good news so be happy tonight.

Man if you guys only knew what I had to go through. Just as an appetizer let me say that my MCAT scores were 24, 30, 34 and no I didn't get an 88...I've taken that Godforsaken test 3, count em, 3 times!

I went the whole year with lots of rejections and no acceptances. Finally on May 1 NYMC accepted me. It was crazy because I called them the day before and the secretary told me that they had sent out their response, but that she wasn't allowed to tell me. Naturally I got upset and started thinking that I wasn't getting in anywhere and that I should start looking for a job again. Anyway, the acceptance came the next day and then a week and a half later, when I was getting ready to send them my deposit, an acceptance came from Wake Forest and then when I decided I was going there I got one from Tulane. Today I talked to the admissions director at UNC and he said I had a pretty good chance of getting in off the waitlist.
So see what I mean about these waitlists moving? These were all schools that I was waitlisted at and now all those spots go to someone else who probably doesn't want them and then they go to someone else who is already accepted somewhere else that they'd rather be and they eventually get to people like us who didn't get into Hopkins in January and are waiting around in May hoping that the acceptance they are looking for will come in the mail today.
It'll all work out and if it doesn't you'll try something else and a few years later you'll apply again and you'll get in and it will feel that much better because you've been working towards that letter for so long. Trust me...I know, I graduated in 1997.
I'm starting to look at it like that dinner you get after going the whole day with nothing to eat. It always tastes better.

Wow! Congratulations yigit! UNC is awesome! I wouldn't be able to display that kind of tenacity. It's pretty impressive how you increased your MCAT score each try. I have a friend (no really not me 😉) who got a 24 on his MCAT and he wants to take it over. This is a dumb question, but how did you think you improved in each section?

I ask because for me I don't think it is very possible to improve on one's score on the MCATs unless the first time around the person was slacking. And surprisingly Kaplan is actually a pretty good indicator. But you obviously broke that.

I'll tell my friend to check this out.

Hey Twister, you beat me 😉. And I thought getting in two days before class started was bad enough j/k

I got in! Yippee! If I get a decent financial aid package I'm definitely going to go! Can anyone tell me if Rochester has been giving out good aid 😀 ?

I thought that simply having taken it before was a big help because you know what to expect and you're not as scared. I also feel like I got better at "choosing" the right answer even when I wasn't sure, which comes from taking many many practice tests. And most of all, I studied my butt off. I don't think I went out once last summer.
🙂 😎 😳 🙄 😀 😡 😱

My mother always said that I shouldn't say this, but.....I told you so. Congrats Hope. Now I hope you have a thick coat. 🙂 🙁 😛 😎 😳 🙄 😱

Guardian,

I too found out that I am on the Tufts waiting list...and also know two of my friends who in the past were accepted from the waitlist in August. It's frustrating, but I would rather get in late than not get in at all.

I also talked to a few people during my interview, and they were all accepted off of the waitlist. I am beginning to think no one gets in the first time around because they want people to work for their acceptance!

Anyways, Tufts and Boston are great, and with patience, I think both of us will be fine!

Best of luck to you.

Neel

CONGRATULATIONS, HOPE! that's totally awesome 🙂 good luck at Rochester! 🙂

Congrats to those getting in!......Please keep your fingers crossed for me, I am still waiting on 3 school's lists. It's really encouraging to hear good news!

Hi everyone and congrats on your acceptances!

Just curious if anyone has heard from the SUNY Downstate and Stony Brook waitlists?

I am on both and have been waiting for a while.

Thanks

😀 😀 😀 Thanks, guys! I'm really excited!

YIPPEE! I just got pulled off the Rochester waitlist too!!! WHAT A SHOCK! I had already planned to attend another school, but I absolutely loved Rochester and can't possibly see myself passing it up.
Hope88- CONGRATS TO YOU TOO! Maybe we'll end up being classmates! Are you from Rochester?

Congrats, abbeydesert! Yup, I'm from Rochester. It's not the best city in the world, but it's home to me. It means a lot to me to be going there because I'm really close w/ my family and they've been through some tough times recently. I wasn't looking forward to leaving them (and my BF), plus I absolutely fell in love w/ the school (esp. the curriculum) when I visited. SO, I am 99% sure I'll be there in August. 😀 Hope to see you there. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about the area.

hey all, anyone have info on the waitlists at penn and/or cornell? thanks!

Cornell and Penn both have movement. Lizard and Chi-Chi on this forum got off at Cornell last week (notified by email) and Penn has movement listed on TPR (phone call). Apparently, they asked a few students on the waitlist if they wanted to sit in on classes, asked what they thought, and then gave them the big yes a day or so later. Best wishes!!

I'm still waiting to get into Tulane off the waitlist. I know it's May 21 and most students have made their decision on schools. Did anyone decided not to go to Tulane in favor of somewhere else? If so, please post and let me know so i feel like i might have a chance of getting in off the waitlist. Thanks.

fastjoe, don't worry too much yet. First off, while May 15th is a suggested date by AAMC, it is by no means a hard and fast deadline, and I think there are still a good number of people holding at least 2 acceptances, generally waiting on fin. aid. packages. Second, several schools aren't looking at moving their waitlists until this week, or early June (one of my waitlisted schools is currently oversubscribed 🙁, so they said they should have more definite info. at the end of the month). Since you are basically dependent on the domino effect right now, as more schools start to move their waitlists, your chances of getting in should increase.

Right now, I would just keep showing your interest in Tulane. Good luck.

Thanks for the info and for the support. It is much appreciated! 😀

to all those accepted (and those not quite yet), it's great to hear all the good news. i think for all those not yet accepted but waiting, it's an agonizing time. once that first one comes (hopefully), it's smooth sailing from there, but until then, i don't think any of us can rest. it's such a random process that it's hard to really guess the final outcome. anyways, i'm waiting on st. louis and nymc on news...

I have to concur with you. I'm still waiting on three schools. This whole process is torture. 🙁

I have just been accepted at MCP Hahneman and also Michigan State University. I am also freeing up my spots at Howard and MCP Hahnemen.

The waitlist at U of Michigan is moving. I was offered a spot with a scholarship of 10K/year. I'll be accepting that offer. If anyone is waiting on Stanford, there's one spot opening up! Good luck to everyone out there.

Hi All!

Congratulations to people who are getting in! And to those who aren't quite in...

"You ain't seen nothin' yet." From what I understand, there are lotsa people who hold multiple acceptances past the 15th of May. Plus, the domino effect of waitlist movement usually takes some time. I think waitlists will be moving very rapidly through the early part of June. So keep your chin up!

As for me, I was on the waitlist for about 2 days, then given an acceptance to Albert Einstein. A space at Chicago Med should open up soon. Good luck to everyone!

I just got picked up off of the alternate lists at Michigan State and Wayne State. I am pretty excited. If I can pulled from the a-lists, so can anyone else.

Jimmybee,

Were you in any place before you got taken off the waitlist?

Before I was taken off of the waitlist, I was enrolled at MSUCOM.....Good Luck.

I just wanted to say good luck to everyone. I think the coming weeks will bring a lot of people good news.
😀I was pulled off the UCSF waitlist last week. 😱

I just got into Vanderbilt off the waitlist so there'll be a place opening up at Downstate in a few days for anyone who wants it. Good luck.

i just got the call on friday- i got into the UCSF/UC-Berkeley Joint Medical Program 🙂 🙂 🙂 someone should be getting off the USC waitlist soon 🙂

Congratulations, chinchilla (I used to have one of those critters 😀 ). That's awesome! Now you can be close to your bf, right?

yes, we've been dancing around since friday 🙂 he just finished his first year as a PhD student at berkeley, so we're all set- i'm ridiculously grateful that things turned out as happily as they did 😀

Anyone know if there is any movement on the Tufts list? I am anxiously waiting!

Thanks,
Neel

Mikado,

How did Vanderbilt contact you? I'm anxiously awaiting a response from them as well. Was it phone, e-mail, or postal? Thanks,

Colorado_2

Hey Neel,
I'd love to go to Tufts as well (waitlisted) but it seems tough. They accept like 400 students for a class size a bit less than 200. We all know it's very expensive but it's tough to see that more than half their acceptancees would reject their offer. But who knows 🙂. How did you like your interviews there?

I loved my interview, and I love the school (I went to undergrad at tufts). A couple of my friends already at the school all got in through the waitlist, but they were accepted towards the end of the summer. They said to be prepared for Tufts' snail like movement. The agony!

Good luck to you guardian.

Neel

i just dropped my acceptance to pitt. this should ensure even more movement of their waitlist, which has been moving a lot lately. good luck, all!

Hey fresh, where are you headed instead?

hey 'girl, i'm going to case western.

Congrats, fre****y! I am now officially a 3rd-year student at Case and really love it here (especially now that I am on the verge of clerkships). There are at least 3 other people who post on SDN (pcl, brentunc, and Art Vandelay) who will also be at Case next year. You guys should get in touch! Best wishes!!! 🙂

Neel: My interviews at Tufts were OK. They were both with nice old ladies 😉. Did you get any acceptances or additional waitlists? Well lets keep our fingers crossed and hopefully alot of their acceptancees will be turned off by their tuition 😉.

guardian,

Yes, I was accepted to Meharry and UNECOM. I am waitlisted PCOM and UCONN. But Tufts remains my top choice. I also found out that BU has higher tuition....so that makes me feel a little better 🙄

I got in to GWU Medical School! Woo hooo! I was waitlisted at three schools and finally got in. I know all of you understand how excited I am. Just had to share! For everyone still waiting....there is still time!

just received good news from michigan! i think i am going to take the spot over the one i'm holding at rochester, and withdraw from the yale and wash u waitlists.

Hi all!

Congrats on everyone's acceptances! For those of you that haven't received one yet, hang in there and don't lose hope.

Personally, I have already received and acceptance at NYCOM and am very happy about that. At least at this point, I know everything I have done up to this point hasn't been in vein and that I will one day become a physician.

I am currently on the waitlists at Stony Brook and Downstate. I would choose these schools over NYCOM for one reason only, MONEY. This is not a MD/DO decision, because I think that both philosophies have their own merits. It is strictly and economical on: 30,000/yr vs 11,000/yr, not a tough decision.

Anyway, I am curious if there is anyone else out there on these lists and if they have heard any info. From what I understand this is the time for movement on the lists.

Let me know what is going on, I dont hear enough about these two schools.

Thank you and good luck

Congrats bud (mvalento)!! Just wanted to say that I have been following your posts on here for some time now, and I remember when you were on 6 waitlists, I believe. That's great that Michigan worked out for you -- congrats again! You all are giving me some extra hope.

just trying to keep this at the top so I can hear the news...
