Lilycat and everyone - I have some good news - I got into Baylor last night! I was only holding one spot - at Stony Brook - so a spot has opened there. This also means that the list at Baylor is still moving. Good luck to everyone. I do need a little help/advice from anyone who wants to help. I am SO SO SO excited about getting into Baylor, I loved it there. But I also loved Cornell, and my BF is in the north east too (but not in NYC.) But still, I am not sure which is my top choice. I'm a little nervous about PBL at Cornell. I love the combined curriculum at Baylor. And getting into the clinics early at Baylor. But I love New York, Cornell has awesome facilitles, loved the students there, awesome research opportunities, and my Sig other is close by. Any opinions on which is the better school?

Unfortunately, I am still on the waitlist at Cornell - can I call them and say - "listen, I have to know this week?" They never give me any info anyway. Baylor has asked that I withdrawal from all the other schools within a week. Can they really demand that? Thanks you for any advice. And thanks for being a support group through this process! 🙂 😱 😀
 
The rodeo is cool.. but it's in February. Houston isn't the prettiest city (especially after all the disaster that happened there this last weekend), but there's lots to do and it does grow on you. Baylor is an EXCELLENT program. Good luck with your decision. (but decide quickly so that our friends here at SDN also on the waitlist can find out their futures too) 🙂

Mikado - I know it seems strange, but I am completely torn between the two schools, and the two sities. I grew up in Houston (and have been to the rodeo a ton of times, I love it), but i've also lived in NYC and love it too. I have family in both cities, and both schools would be great for academic medicine. any advice?

Mikado - you freaked me out. but now I know who you are- you're not really in Tenessee are you? Where are you going? Do you know yet? Any advice from anyone else out there?
 
Congratulations mayriver!!!! I am so happy for you, and I think you are one of the first to get off of the waitlist (when I talked to the office in the morning, it sounded like the class was just full) so it's great to hear that it is finally moving.

Unfortunately at this point, schools can ask that you decide in very short periods of time. 😱 So, Baylor is totally within their rights to ask you to withdraw from all other schools in a week. However, are you sure that this request included waitlists, or do you think they might have only been referring to other schools you had acceptances at? I would double-check if you are uncertain. I'm not sure they can ask you to withdraw from a waitlist (unless you ever said that you would in a letter of intent).

As for the Cornell issue, definitely call the admissions office as soon as possible, and ask to speak to the Dean if you can -- explain that you just got into Baylor and need to make your decision in the next week, and that any information about your chances would be helpful. This may make them more friendly to your requests, and they might at least be able to tell you if you are on the top half of the list, bottom half, etc.

That would be a very tough decision to make -- is tuition an issue at all? (although I have heard that Cornell gives excellent fin. aid). I had a friend making the exact same decision, and he ended up going with Cornell, but I think that was because he was tired of Houston (having grown up there and gone to HS there).

Well, first I would double-check to that you "have" to withdraw from your waitlist -- I'm not totally sure Baylor can ask you to do that at this point. Good luck and congratulations!

Unfortunately, I'm still on their waitlist. I'm really anxious to hear any news about Vandy. It just seems so slow for this time of year.

Congratulations Lilycat!!! I am so excited for you! Did they say anything to you about wait lists? Are you definately going to go to Baylor? I'm so happy for you! It would be cool if we both end up there - we'll have to emial. Mikado - thanks for your advice. I agree about the curriculum, and I may not get into Cornell in the end anyway. congratulations on vandy - it's a great school, I'm sure you'll do well. Congrats again lilycat!
 
Oh I forgot - LaRa - I am still on UNC and Duke waitlist, but I think i'm going to call them up and tell them I'm not interested any more. I'v decided that I'd rather be in NY or in Houston. Good luck to you!
 
The waitlist of Stony Brook is moving. I got an offer this afternoon. They called my cellular phone.

To CityIvy: They called me at 2:09 p.m. I know NYMC will pull people off the waitlist until late Aug/early Sept. No Kidding. So, hang in there.

Thanks so much for all the congrats everyone! Some of you are well aware that I've been waiting for this for a loooong time. However, now because of personal reasons, I'm really not sure where I'm going to end up, and as mayriver has mentioned, I don't have very long to decide!! Anyways, mayriver and OUaj2 (I love Sooner fans 😉), feel free to email me if you want -- it'd be nice to know some people before orientation if I do end up at Baylor.

Congrats to everyone else hearing from their waitlists and good luck to those that are still waiting -- movement may be a little slower this year, but is moving!
 
Lilycat!!! Can I just say I am SO happy for you!! I am almost in tears myself!! We both conquered the waitlist!! This is just so awesome!!! I am so excited for you!! It has just worked out perfectly!! This is great!! I am just awestruck!!! Congrats!!!
 
Congrats to everyone getting pulled off the waitlists! And I must say I'm excited to see several people on this site getting pulled off the Baylor waitlist. The more I learn about the school, the more I get excited about starting in August. At orientation, maybe we should put our SDN names underneath our real names. 😉

anyone know what going on with Penn these days? I'm trying to get a feel for how many spots will likely be offered between now and the begining of class, but the AO is pretty tight-lipped.
 
Does anyone out there know about Penn State's wait list? I'm desparately waiting and hoping to get a nice phone call from them. 🙁

How about "an pogee moe?" A friend of my friend's from the Philippine Islands and she said that in a party game and I had to guess what that meant (cool party game, we all spoke in foreign language guessing game). Hablo Espanol by the way, but poorly.

To add to Katie's happy news...

Just want to start off by saying that although I have been an infrequent poster, I have been waiting in the wings (so to speak) and want to thank all the people who are so encouraging. Also, congratulations to all of you who have been accepted. And last, but certainly not least, to those remaining waitlisters...miracles DO happen and dreams DO come true!!!

I just got the call from the University of Rochester this morning and will be headed there in about two weeks to find a place to live. I have so much to do in the next two weeks that I don't even know where to begin!

hi guys, has anyone here heard from UCLA recently? I heard things are slowing down there.
 
Hi JJJ. I just called them this afternoon and it doesn't sound good. They said that they haven't received any withdrawals yet this week. Also, after asking for my social securtiy number the lady told me to just go where I'm already accepted and that my chances aren't that great, something about not being in the 30 people that are currently being reviewed for spots and there being only 2 weeks left. My heart just sank after that. 🙁 I hope you guys hear better news.
