Hey everyone!

I guess by now most of you have received the news... the good, bad, and the so-so.

For those of you who have been put on the waitlist category at some schools, have you gotten off from the list yet? If so, from what school?

I am particularly interested in hearing from those of you who have been waitlisted at the following schools: U Penn, Cornell, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins.

Just trying to keep this thread going.... Any news, anybody?

sorry, nothing yet. actually, michigan emailed me today to let me know that they had received my letter of intent, which was nice, but they said that they probably won't make any offers until mid-may. i'm also waiting on NYU, rochester, duke, yale, and wash u, but michigan is my top choice. best of luck!

No, but I just got waitlist letters last week. That would be astonishing to have heard by now! I guess I'm crossing my fingers for the end of May...

Also trying to keep this thread going....

I'm on three waitlists and have also not heard from three other schools I interviewed with.

I'm on a couple waitlists, and haven't heard anything yet. There really isn't a lot of waitlist movement before May 15, so don't expect to hear much good news before then. Hopefully this thread will fill up with lots of good news after that date!

Okay, so I thought interviewing was the worst part of this process...but all this waiting is really eating me up inside. 🙁

I feel your pain lizard. I just wish schools would understand that and be more forthcoming. It sucks, because if my dealings with med schools were retail experiences, I'd say, "Screw you. I'm taking my business elsewhere." Of course, the retail store would care and try to appease me. Med schools would laugh ans say "GBye." faster than that weakest link host. 🙂

I am also on a couple of waitlists with no news yet. What makes me a bit nervous is to hear from Admissions Offices that "up to now there has been very little movement on the waitlist". This makes me realize that there at least has been SOME movement! Does this mean that some people have been accepted off of the list? Yikes! I hope not, since some of these schools only take 10-15 off their list, each one taken off counts against me!! I guess I'd better just calm down and not worry so much and just wait for the letters.

I wouldn't worry too much about the "very little movement" comment too much. At the two schools I'm waitlisted at, I've asked when they expect to have the most movement, and they both say end of May, early June. They also said that there hadn't been any waitlist movement at this point. My whole theory on this is that no matter how many withdrawals they might have had in the last month or so, some schools are going to wait until the May 15th deadline to get a clear picture of how many spots they have to offer, rather than trying to figure it out on a rolling basis as the withdrawals come in. This makes sense to me, and it makes it easier to ignore med school stuff for a few weeks. Now, of course, once May 15th hits, I'm sure I'll be on pins and needles again...

Lilycat,

I was wondering where you are on the waitlist. I'm on the waitlist at both Tulane and Medical College of ohio. Thanks.

Yeah, most schools pretty much have their hands tied until after May 15. I'm on the wait list at UMASS, NYMC and Creighton. Has anyone heard about these schools?
Also, my friend has already been accepted to UVM off the wait list - she's out of state.

i was wondering if anyone out there has been accepted off the waitlists for UCSF (i guess it's actually the 'high priority' category, which seems like a waitlist?) or UCLA yet? i called both offices and they both said that some people should start hearing good news this week or next week. thanks 🙂 (i'm also on the waitlist for dartmouth, but from what they've said, it seems like no movement will happen until the end of may- please correct me if i'm wrong) good luck and take it easy, everyone 🙂

It's driving me mad! I got waitlisted by two state schools. And I still have to hear from 4 more schools. I hope I get an acceptance by one of the four schools soon. I don't think I can wait around in a sane frame of mind if I have to wait to get in through the wait list. I know of someone who got in off the wait list 2 days before class started!

Ughhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! 🙁 😡 😕 😱
I'm also getting frustrated. I just want to know where I am living this fall. This waitlist thing sucks...I apologize for venting on this board...but does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with the wait?

Well there are quite a few of us in that position. Just continue venting. At this point its not really in our control at all.

Hi,
I am on the waitlists at Downstate and on Stony Brook. I curious if anyone here is also on these lists. By the way, stony brook refers to its list as the high priority list. Does that imply that there are two lists or is it just another name for a waitlist?

Does anyone know someone that was on these lists and actually gained acceptance?

I appreciate any input!

Thanks

P.S. It really stinks that we have to wait, I have already been accepted to a school that requires a deposit in June. I would hate to lose that money if I get accepted to my first choice.

I bet many of you will hear from the schools you're waitlisted at soon after May 15th rolls around -- many acceptees will be withdrawing from their acceptances for their primary choices.

JF, I'm waitlisted at Downstate too. I've heard of people coming off the wait list two days before class starts. Crazy aint it?

But really are there really alot of people who hold their spots at all of the schools they've been accepted to? Even for the schools they aren't seriously considering? It makes me mad.

Hi guardian. I agree with lilycat. There may be some people who are that evil to be holding spaces for schools they know they would not attend, but in the grand scheme of things it does not affect us. I think that most schools will not start offering spaces until May 15th at this point. I have heard that UCSF plans to start next week with some people on the high priority list, but I think the rest of us will have to wait until between the 16th and June 1st. Good luck!! 🙂

And just an anecdote.... I don't know if you all watch Survivor, but Tina was pulled from the waitlist for Survivor and WON the million last night!! So don't lose faith or think you are not qualified or think that others DESERVE it more. Obviously, it is not true. That is not to say that others don't deserve their spaces, just that everyone who is deserving doesn't always get the space for whatever reason in the first round. She knew she was just as qualified as those originally picked, and now the rest of the world does too. 🙂 Best wishes you all!! I think in the spirit of waitlist limbo, I am going to practice limboing every day and see how low I can go before I get off the list. 🙂 I need something to entertain myself.... 🙂

Now, my big question for everyone is...Does anyone know if the waitlist has begun to move at Yale???
I'm only holding on to one acceptance (BU) and one waitlist spot (Yale) so I'm ultra curious to hear if it is moving yet. Much luck to everyone in the next couple of weeks.

luck, rockets, and sprockets,
spacecadet22

PS...Christiangirl--thanks for the info about UCSF and Tina from survivor. I have a close friend waiting to move to San Francisco and I totally didn't know Tina was a waitlister.

I'm waitlisted at four schools. I really wish I knew where I will be next year! 🙄

Hey Christiangirl, I don't think that those people are evil 😉 but they just want to procrastinate and wait for some incentive to fall on their laps in choosing a school. I get the feeling that alot of people want to hold their spots in alot of schools in hopes that they have more options when they really are disappointed in not getting their first or top choices. In my opinion that's shallow.

christiangirl, do you happen to know how ucsf tells people if/when they get off the high priority list? thanks for any help 🙂

Hang in there guys!

I hear May 15th is the big deadline for those holding multiple acceptances to drop them. I know a few of my colleagues who will be relenquishing their seats for a few med schools. Good luck to you all.

Stay positive. I was starting to accept that I'd have to do it all over again, but I just got the call a couple of days ago. Needless to say, I'm pretty pumped.

I hear there is movement already for Tulane and MCP. It began late last week. MCP sends a letter and Tulane a phone call.

Anyone know what the deal is at Tufts? I am waiting to hear from them.

Thanks,
Neel

Hey chinchilla. Sorry I don't. I didn't apply there. A friend of mine who is on the list told me that. I didn't ask anymore, since you can see where I am already devoting all of my energies. 🙂 Good luck. Try calling and just don't give your name if you are afraid of being dropped to the bottom or something. Good luck.

The rumors are true...the waitlists are moving. Much to my surprise, I got a call from Tulane on Friday and MCP by mail on Saturday. Keep hope alive!!

Also--seriously I need help...BU or Tulane?
Please respond to that topic.
Thanks all,
spacecadet22

I'm having an anxiety attack here waiting...and waiting...and knowing that lists are moving, yet my phone is not ringing nor is my mailbox or email inbox making me happy.

Spacecadet22: Congrats on your BU/Tulane options...They are both pretty pricey, so at least price shouldn't determine your choice--which school did you enjoy more during your interview visit? I think both have strong reputations, so if I were you, I would base my decision on which school made me feel the most comfortable and which city I would like to spend 4 years as a resident. (New Orleans and Boston are pretty different in every way possible--especially climate!)

good luck with your decision--both are solid schools, so whichever you choose won't be a mistake,

Anyone hear of any movement at Stony Brook or Downstate? I am really getting sick of waiting!

Good luck to all!

I just got a letter today from the University of Cincinnati telling me I'm on their alternate list. I didn't expect to hear from them for at least another week. I'm definitely excited, because I think most of the people on this list ultimately get an acceptance. If anyone has any insight on this, it would be appreciated. Good luck to all as May 15 approaches!

😀

got pulled off the list at rochester this morning, so a spot at loyola will be turning up soon. good luck-

Wow, congratulations on the acceptance! I'm on the Rochester waitlist too and am anxiously awaiting the verdict. How did they notify you?

the director of admissions called my house (in MN) last friday, and i called her back this morning. i guess they already sent out a letter as well, i suppose that will be going back home, too. one cool thing she told me is that they would have a financial aid package sent to me within 24 hours of the time they get all my information.

Hang in there all! I am waitlisted at Gtown, GWash, and MCV/VCU. I can't wait until May 15 rolls around. It's been so long....and I really really don't want to do this again!

Hi jf:

I just got off the list at Downstate. I received an e mail from the director of admission on 5/1. I got accepted on 5/8. My interview was on 2/21 and was waitlisted on 3/8.

For Stony Brook, I had my interview on 3/13. They put me on the high priority list on 4/2. My premed advisor called SB last week and found out the list was moving. However, I still havent heard from them.

By the way, when was your interview? What I heard was if they (both school) put you on the high priority list, you should hear from them sometime this month.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck

Eric

I heard that someone from our school got off the Columbia waitlist.

Hey Eric,

Thanks for the info and congrats on your acceptance to downstate. I interviewed at downstate on 1/11/01 and was waitlisted in april. I recently sent an update letter to the dean. I hope to hear from them soon!

I interviewed at stony brook on 2/20/01 and was waitlisted 4/25/01. Sent them a letter to.

Already received and acceptance from NYCOM, but my only issue is the price. 24K vs 11K big difference in price and amt of loans.

This waiting game is getting really old fast.

Anyway, thanks for the info and if you can offer any additional I would really appreciate it.

By the way, are you accepting downstate or do you have other options.

Good luck

JF

Dif anybody get off the wait list at Cornell?

Congrats, that's awesome that you can still receive scholarships off of waitlists. Did they contact you by phone or mail?

Thanks,

Colorado_2

Thanks lilycat!! I SO owe you an email!! 🙂 I hope that yours work out as well. The thing was is that I was SO gung ho Duke that I didn't think I would care, but I am SO excited now!! I'll probably still see what happens, but either way I'll be an MD in four years!! 🙂

Colorado, they are mailing me a letter which is in transit, but they also sent me an email.

Congrats, Christiangirl! Didn't you just post the other day on another thread that you were doing your AMCAS for the upcoming cycle? That's great that you don't have to go through the whole process again! SO you go pulled off two waitlists in a week?

Hey rza!! No just the one waitlist. I am still on the one for Cornell and Duke. I may pull off the Cornell one because I am not sure how much I like complete PBL curriculum. Thanks and best wishes to you. Are you waiting to hear from somewhere or are you going somewhere?

Congratulations to you all. Christiangirl what did you do to qualify for a scholarship? Are you MD/PhD?

Congratulations Christiangirl!

Hi JF,

Thanks for your congrats.

I would suggest you ask your premed advisor to call both schools and find out your rank there. This was how I found out my position on the list. Usually, they wont tell the applicants over the phone. But, if you dont have a pre-med advisor in your school, you can ask your mentor/prof, someone who knows you very much to call for you.

I applied very late last year. I sent my AMCAS in Oct and secondaries in Dec. I still have two interviews coming up (one next week and one the week after), so for now, Downstate is the only school which offers me a spot.

When you receive the letter in April, have they told you if you are on the high priority/priority/waitlist?

Also, I sent a portolio of my abstract and 10-12 pages of figures and tables of my research project to both schools a week after my interview. I don't know if it helps or not. But, do give them an update on a regular basis.

The movement just begins. Hang in there.

Good Luck!!

Eric
