Hello people...I just found this website...pretty cool.
I'm happy to say that I finally got off a waitlist. On Monday afternoon, I received a message on my answering machine from the director of admissions at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She said there was an issue regarding my application, and that I should call her back ASAP.
I called her early the next morning and asked her what was goin' on. She asked me if I had any idea why she was calling, and I told her that I had absolutely no idea (I really didn't...I just turned in my primary application for Fall 2002 (I'd given up on an acceptance a long time ago). She then told me that she wanted to offer me admission to MCW.
I was STOKED!
However, I'm not the type of person that could move all the way from California to Milwaukee in approximately 3 weeks and so I was afraid I would have to turn it down...I currently have a great job, and I promised my employers a one-year committment.
However, knowing my luck with applying to medical school (10 interviews in the past two years...and just this one lone acceptance from MCW), I asked if I could defer until August 2002. Under normal circumstances, almost no school would grant deferred admission this late in the application cycle (and so close to orientation). This year, however, is different all thanks to this year's new web-based AMCAS. Due to the problems of this godforsaken application (which has pushed the admissions process for all AMCAS schools several weeks behind), med schools wanna make sure they had some first year med students in Fall 2002 just in case the new AMCAS totally blows up in their faces.
Thus, if there is anyone out there that is in a position similar to mine (i.e. - accepted with only a few weeks/days to go, and you're not the type of person that could make such a move in such a short span of time), it never hurts to ask for deferred admission.
Good luck everyone...and congrats to all of you waitlisted folk that made it to the promised land. We did it!
