Hope its ok for me to rant a bit:
I have been feeling ridiculously over whelmed lately. Reminds me of the days before my MCAT when I was experiencing sleepless nights. Although my current stress is no where near how it was for the MCAT, this process has started to make me feel really unsure of my qualifications. For some reason, my mind constantly thinks about things that can go wrong (ex: what if one of my LOR is filled with negatives?, what if my GPA drops after verification? ) Ugh... anyone else in the same boat? 🙁

I'm confident my LORs are positive, or at least neutral. I was in a similar boat before all my LORs were in though. I'm now mostly worried about funding everything.

We're all stressed out!

Not applying to VCU since they require 2 semesters of math and I only have 1. Wasted primary fee, oh well.

I agree we're all feeling some stress this year. I'm taking the MCAT in a month or so, and surprisingly not too stressed yet. Applications and interviews I'm feeling a little more stressed about. So in some ways, I'm really thankful that I decided to do a Rope Rescue class this year as it's given me some time away from thinking about applications, etc and enjoying doing something I've wanted to do as a Paramedic.

I know it's easy for me to sit here and say "relax, you're overreacting". But as someone who has gone through the cycle only a year ago, I know exactly how you feel. When something HUGE (like getting accepted to medschool) is pending... all negative thoughts flow through your mind. You gotta realize that there's nothing you can do now... it's out of your hands. You've done your best, and no matter how much you feel you could've done more, it's either not true or it's irrelevant. Trust your hard work and let it be.

When you get your first interview invite, what you're feeling now will turn to excitement, and then "well if this school likes me, I'm sure others will too!". And sure enough, you might get another invite a couple weeks later.

So yeah. Relax, you're overreacting. 😉

I think this is a great thought...

The busier I am, the less worry I have. Certain things, like verification and getting interview invites, will still cause worry until they happen. But, if you can find something to stay busy with, your worry should go down. Especially if you can find something like volunteer work thats medically related...then you feel good for helping and also feel like you are working toward your goal to get into med school.

👍

Since secondaries started coming in I completely stopped trying to pre-write them. I'm just hoping the ones I've written so far can be used in one way or another for the ones that haven't come yet.

Did you pre-write RVU's secondary? If so, you should be decently prepared to answer secondaries that have similar prompts.

I spent a fair amount of time pre-writing RVU's secondary and I never ended up submitting the LORs to complete my file. 😎

Nope. Didn't apply to RVU so I didn't even look. I heard Pomona's was a good way to prepare for different secondaries, but I basically copy/pasted for Pomona.

Oh, gotcha.. I don't recall hearing about Pomona's secondary. I didn't apply there.

Haha, my girlfriend showed that to me 2 years ago during her M1. I wanted to tease her the other day that I bet she's like that as an M3, but she might not like that very much 🙂

LOL yeah I would at least wait until you're accepted before opening such discussions 😀

THANK YOU Iliketoytles🙂. I really appreciate the time and energy you and others have taken out to help all of us current applicants. Worrying unnecessarily about every little thing is definitely a weakness and only gets amplified when something so big is ahead. You are right, I need to just relax and hope for the best. :xf:

Why did Blizzard make diablo 3 look like a kids game?

I understand this statement is going to annoy some hardcore loyalists, and I know a game isn't all about the graphics. But come on, this game just looks silly, I'm not going to buy it because it really looks like just a WoW spoof. What made diablo I and II great was the dark graphics it used. Shame too because I was looking forward to this game.

I never got into the Diablo series. I am more of a StarCraft kinda guy.

I was excited for StarCraft 2 to come out for yeeeeeeears. And when it finally did... yes, I bought it. But I only played it a couple times. I couldn't get used to all the new upgrades and perks, but the graphics did look pretty awesome. 👍

I play MW3 from time to time. That's all my gaming experience.

Edit: Oh and some of that new fifa 2012 game.

Dang that reminds me that I haven't played COD in for-ev-er. My XBOX Live account probably says I haven't played since 6 months ago.

Idk, but a friend gave me their free pass thing (you get one when you buy the game) and I think D3 sucks. It's a shame because I loved D1/D2/D2LOD.

Ok, well, I know it's early...but I went out and got my interview suit. It was the tailored fit from banana republic, dark navy, solid.

I've gotta say, it makes me feel like James Bond.

Man, I got my interview suit more than a month ago. Hickey Freeman solid charcoal. Got it at Nordstrom rack for about 60% off retail!

I agree with you, it does feel really cool. First suit I've ever owned.

haha, you know it! I even went for a new shirt with french cuffs and a skinny tie...

I actually almost got one at the Nordstrom rack too...good stuff

Yea they have a pretty good selection. I'm a little small though (40S), so it was limited.

I never thought to check out Nordstrom. I always see commercials for Joseph A Bank so I just went there first thing. Got a pretty sweet deal both times I went. Technically I didn't wear a suit for my LECOM interview since I was not as proactive as the both of you in getting suits BEFORE interviews... 🙄

Word to the wise: give yourself 2-3 weeks for suits, sometimes they require additional touch-ups after they've fitted you at the store.

A couple of weeks after getting Jos. A Bank had a buy 1 half off and get 1 free suit sale!

Technically no suit? Sounds interesting...what did you wear for your interview?

Now that's my kind of deal! I think I got 70% off everything.

Hahaha. Since I wasn't proactive about getting an interview suit, I went in there and picked up a nice sport coat. They couldn't guarantee that a suit would be ready in time. Right after the LECOM interview I went back and got fitted for a suit, which I wore to my other interviews. My first suit as well. 😎

Nice! Haha...a character building experience 😉

I want to get a suit specially tailored from the Men's Warehouse guy. He knows his suits.

Dang, 70% off is nice. I got mine for ~$560 including tailoring and the "compare at" price was around $1400. Not bad!

Indeed it was. No offense to the Men's Warehouse, but after I tried on my Jos. A Bank suit, I liked the way I looked.

Yes it was a pretty sweet deal. The in-store rep. even helped me pick out my tie. I was staring at three for like 10 minutes before he got there.

I have a bunch of dress shirts but none of them are solid. I'm looking for a solid light blue shirt and hopefully some kind of navy tie. Maybe a pindot.

I'm on the lookout for some subtle cuff links...maybe like a little surgeon who's performing open heart surgery, but the heart is a ruby?

Let me know if you guys see something...

Ebay. I got cufflinks with the logo of my undergrad... I love them.

Are cuff links necessary? I hadn't planned on getting any.

They're just accessories. Don't bother, unless you really can't live without them.

I didn't wear them to my interviews because none of my shirts were designed for cufflinks. I tried that once with a shirt with only one hole and that ended in one of the thembeing lost for several hours. Made me mad because I paid $60 for them.

I just read on wiki that about 44% of applicants matriculated last year. That's not so bad. Something like 18k matriculants out of 42k applicants. I think that was just for allo too.

Makes me feel better about my chances!

Yeah, like neuro said...not necessary and only an option if you do French cuffs. I have a really low key, brushed metal pair I'll probably wear...(unless I find that surgeon one😉 haha)

That's more than I expected!

Plain dress shirt for me. You fancy folks are too fancy for me 🙂

Now I've just gotta figure out which of my grills to wear...

This is quickly turning into the "What to wear to interviews" thread, but I have to give my input too. I got a lighter charcoal suit from...JCPenny's for about $230. No tailoring needed because I thought it fit pretty well, but now I'm wondering if I'm gonna look like a hobo compared to all y'all.
I will also have a white shirt, no French cuffs or links, and just some regular black shoes.
I'm not technically an UD but I think I'll ask colesmalls if I can join the Facebook group based on my clothes alone. Lol

haha, yes. You will be at a very big disadvantage! I mean, how are you supposed to be a doctor in anything less than a $6300 suit...C'mon!!!

Really though, this could be my favorite thread. First we're talking about the 90's (nobody even mentioned new kids on the block or saved by the bell), then MedPR mentions something about dating another SDN members 16 yr old sister who just happens to be in her 3rd yr of med school. Doogie howser anyone?
That's not even mentioning the myriad (of) topics that I would like to talk about like what cell phone service is the best, or how good Arby's is for breakfast. Or how I think im getting old because im starting to really like jazz. I could go on...
