Seriously though guys, what's the best cell service in your opinion? I currently have t-mo but it doesn't work so gud with my iPhone 3GS all hacked and cracked. I'd like something that doesn't break the bank but works well. ???

Depends on your location.

In this age it depends on how you use your phone too. If you use a LOT of data, go sprint. it's the last bastion of the big three that have unlimited data plans.

To be objective...AT&T has the fastest speeds and you use the Internet while talking (can come in handy). Verizon has over all the best coverage (most coverage) and I think better data plans. Sprint and tmobile are the best prices.

Verizon beats them all hands down. The 4G coverage is supreme. But if you have an iPhone you don't get that 4G coverage, which is the biggest reason for me not switching back to the iPhone at this time. One caveat: Verizon is the the most expensive.

Well yes... But let's say I don't know where I'm going to be a year from now. Lol

Stick with t-mobile and wait until you know where you're going. That's what I'm doing.

iPhone has 4G silly...(I've heard other poeple say this though, I wonder why people think that?)

Also, depending on where you are, AT&T might have better coverage, and it's faster.

Verizon has more cities covered and (subjectively) better plans though...

I've tried to explain the whole 4th generation iPhone =/= 4G-capable thing before. For now, I am satisfied with my Thunderbolt and the 4G I get with it. I would imagine there are very few places in Florida that I would have better luck with ATT.

Well I like the price of tmobile. They are the cheapest for family plans. But the coverage bites. I use data frequently, but mostly for email, google searches, and SDN of course. I'd like decent coverage without breaking the bank, and something that the iPhone is made for (everyone BUT tmobile). Maybe sprint is my best option? Does Verizon really have the best coverage? Hmm, choices choices

Yeah, the iPhone is not a 4G capable device, even if a software update allows it to show that it is. Of course, that really depends on the definition of 4G, and the definition depends on who you ask.

One cool thing my friend has with T-Mobile is free tethering (not sure if he was grandfathered in or not). It came into great use the other day when we went to a sporting event and I needed to type something on his laptop and send it to my co-workers before we got to the game. Very handy 👍 Verizon makes you pay extra per month for that. I got it free for the first month or so that I had my phone (go figure).

How much data do you say you go through? Not sure if they still have that 2-for-1 deal going on but I know Verizon has done that deal in the past. (Buy 2gb data and get and extra 2gb free).

Another consideration for the married folk is that carriers are beginning to unveil new shared data plan, which could possibly save some $$

No, the iPhone 4s has 4G

(LTE even)...

Nevermind...I was thinking the newest iPad. The next iPhone coming out in oct/sept is the LTE capable phone...

My bad!! 😉

Edit: I should have never doubted you Neuro...

That would be nice. My wife uses very little data but I like us both to have it just in case.

Alas, tethering on tmobile isn't free. Sad face.
I really prefer the format of the iPhone and I use it a lot with my iTunes, but maybe I should look into a 4G capable android. If I could get one that's as smooth and quick and easy to use as my wife's iPhone 4 I might consider it.

I'll wait for the 5GS to come out before I switch again. I made money off my old 3GS with ATT because at the time people were nuts over iPhones, but I doubt I'll make anything off the Thunderbolt since they've had newer and better 4G-capable phones come out.

It's all good, I actually thought you were being sarcastic until now. Ha!

Yes...that's it! I was only trying to be ironic 😉 haha...

Whats worse, I worked for apple for a pretty long time...I should know better. D'oh

Androirds can take some getting used to as far as figuring out the settings and stuff like that. But other than that, you have apps on the screen: click and play. Same as the iPhone. Where Androids fall short, in my opinion, is the quality and number of apps. Especially for medical professionals, iPhone/iPad apps are way better.

I will definitely be bringing my iPad with me to school.

Hahaha, I won't tell anyone.

I agree with iPad being the best tablet available ....

The iPhone used to be the best phone by far, but now there's a pretty good spread. The galaxy note is cool, of you can fit it in your pocket.

Well seeing how I don't wear overalls with giant chest pockets that one's probably not going to fit for me. Lol

The galaxy s3 has crazy good ratings. I have the first galaxy from Tmobile but like you said, its size is slightly big.

Also, that new share everything plan with Verizon has free tethering I believe.

On a side note, I noticed on a couple of school specific threads that some schools give you a laptop and a tablet when you first enroll there (included within tuition). Is that a normal thing across all the schools?

Yeah, Ive seen this too...I don't think that most schools do that, but Ive heard of many that do. Not sure which one though?

Oh yeah I heard about one school that includes a new iPad in with the tuition. Can't remember which it was for sure but I really think its AT Still. What I read was that they will be providing lecture notes and power points in electronic format.
Really though, this is off topic for the off topic thread...

Pretty sure TCOM does it, 80% sure about DMU. Only two schools I've spent my time reading the old threads. Its a pretty cool plus. I think DMU offered/is offering the ultrabook and ipad. That's a pretty neat combo.

Half of all things that go through my mind are off topic.

I've had my BB Curve for 5+ years now. I'm off contract and considering upgrading to a galaxy S3 but I don't know how much more the plan will cost. I only pay ~$40 now and I don't want to pay much more.

Squeezed a little lemon juice in my bourbon. Not bad.

Just read in the TCOM thread, new students get an ipad and an ultrabook.

I wonder how much it costs them (in their tuition).

Oh here MS1s, we're giving you a free ipad and ultrabook worth approximately $2000. That'll be $5000 extra in tuition please 🙂

well, TCOM is only a little over $12K tuition! (residents) Crazy cheap!

I remember reading that too...and I remember thinking that the school bought the ultra book, but the poster was just saying that the students were starting to buy ipads and using them because it was suggested?

I'm not sure how I feel about the laptop and iPad deal. It's not like they are giving it away for free... you're still paying for it if it's included in the tuition. I already have a decent laptop (Dell Studio XPS) and an iPad2. Not sure how I feel about having to pay tuition money for stuff I already have.

Does any school offer a new car with tuition? Perhaps MSU and their crazy high OOS tuition has room in the budget for a new car... My first car just got totaled tonight from some genius thinking they could make a left turn without yielding to right-of-way (me). My poor, poor car...

Whoa that really sucks about your car! Ur ok though right?
I am not going to complete MSU's secondary. Even if I got in I can't justify nearly 40K per year more than pretty much any other DO school.

We'll see how I'm doing in the morning. There was a lot of adrenaline circulating tonight. Thanks 😎

Had I not swerved to the right it would have been a near head-on collision... which probably wouldn't have ended too pretty for me. Thank God I swerved.

Car shopping will be fun, but I really liked my car 😡 I could have gotten at least another 4 years out of it.

Sorry to hear that 🙁 You and your passengers ok?

So I'm thinking of getting an iPad 3 but my mom is willing to sell me her iPad 2 for less than market cost. I'm starting M1 in a couple of weeks.

What do?

(i love the retina display on my iphone 4 and love taking photos, so it's a hard decision)

I'm definitely feeling sore. The other driver got taken to the ER for a headache and her wrist. It could have been a lot worse.

Hmm that is tough. I would be tempted to get your mom's iPad. There's never that big of difference between any two consecutive models. I have an iPad 2 and will be taking it with me to school.

It is a rough decision...I have the iPad 2, as well. Id say if you save more than $100 or so, id be worth getting.

But, the new iPad is cool...retina display, 4G, much much better camera (if you'd use it-I do), faster, I think Siri is coming out on it when iOS 6 is released soon...

Tough one (I'm a sucker for the new stuff, so Id probably go for it! haha)

That's good to hear!

I'm probably going to get an ipad 1. What's better about the ipad 2 or 3?

Id say...the iPad 1 is fine for the basics. The newer models are thinner, faster, better specs.

The 3 has 4G which some like, but not a lot of cities have it anyway. Better cameras and more features

Thanks, that's what I figured. I'll probably be using it primarily on campus and at home where there will be wifi, so I don't think 4g will be necessary.

Hope everything works out with your car situation! It sucks but no damages health wise, which is whats important.

I really wouldn't mind the ipad/ultrabook, especially if its included within the TCOM tuition. I think that's a really good deal. TCOM tuition = cheapest of all DO schools.

I just got home from work a few mins ago and I haven't seen any posts on this so I decided to ask. Whats everyone's thoughts on the Aurora, Colorado tragedy? (sorry if its already been discussed).

I can't possibly imagine what goes on in someone's mind who's about to do this. Its just so horrible.

Its pretty sad to see. I actually used to live right there, at tower and hamden rd, and its very suburban. Crazy to see something so violent happen in a random fashion.

Its also interesting that he didn't shoot himself. So far, all Ive heard by way of motive was him telling the police that he was the Joker. Crazy.

He has two handguns, a shotgun and an AK (15 I think)...injured about 60 people, killed more than 10. Especially sad that infants and children were in the mix. (and at a midnight showing...babysitters!!)

But, my thoughts go out to the families out there. It would be a tough thing to get through
