Now you get it.

At first, you said that Mac prices are inflated.

Your new point is sort of valid, but I'm not sure that people utilize most of anything they buy so everything is a waste then? Haha...

Oh well...at least we agree that apple is high quality

Other companies also make quality products but you'll have to pay for them too.

Vizio has some pretty nice lookin stuff, laptops, all in ones and tablets, that are looking pretty legit. I'm all for some more competition in the market!

I mean I still think its overpriced. You can get a similarly specd computer for way less than the macbook and never even notice the slightly lower quality.

I know thats what you think...thats why Im correcting you

:meanie:

Well, that's a different debate, what you originally (and just now) posted was that apple prices are inflated by fanboys and that you can get the same specs for much less.

The idea I'm presenting is that apple costs more than the average computer because its components are higher quality/performance than the ave computer. Other companies sell their high end, comparable, stuff for the same or higher than apple.

Also apple has to develop their own software and operating system so has to cover those development costs too.

Meh. Most things priced at macbook prices are better.

Yeah but I feel that the number of competitor products that you speak of aren't as numerous or common. Anyways, I can walk in to an Apple store, or best buy and look at a MBP and know that I am going to get a quality product in many aspects (Recent example: I fell up some stairs last weekend and my mbp broke my fall on a stair, no damage cosmetic or otherwise). I don't have to go look at a bunch of different PC options and wonder if I am getting my money's worth, but also in that aspect I suppose one could argue you have less options for customization, to each his/her own.

Before my nsu interview I wasnt nervous at all... now im freaking out about dmu next week.

And still no HDMI... get with the program Apple. I guess it's easily fixed with an adapter cord, but then you have to carry that extra thing around, which can be easily forgotten.

There is HDMI now btw...but that's almost outdated now too.

They have it now........on the $2000 one. Lol

one of the main reasons I didn't get a mac was no hdmi out.

Plus idk why mac feels difficult to use for me, im just so used to pc. I imagine if I used mac every day for a month I'd acclimate, but when I occasionally have to use it's a chore.

What's a thunderbolt port? What sort of electronics have thunderbolt ports? Did that replace the firewire port? Sounds like something Apple developed just to be different.

Every friend that I've talked to that uses the MBP says it takes a few days to get used to. So I guess it's not as bad as we PC folk think.

It's an intel invention. pretty cool actually. Very high speed data transfer, video n audio out too I believe.

My first Mac was the 2008 24" iMac. It was sick. Huge display, 1TB hard drive, 4GB ram (at the time it was a lot) and 3.06ghz dual core processor. Anyway, I had never used an apple before, but by the end of the 1st 24 hours I could do everything on it that had been able to do on my windows computer. I'm not a super computer nerd, but I could do plenty of my own troubleshooting on the windows computer before so it's not like I'm saying I didn't have much to learn on the mac in order to be on par with my windows abilities.
Bottom line is, I really prefer the Mac OS over any other OS out there. Very intuitive and straightforward and still plenty of customization for the average user.

Just some external hard drives and a couple of high res displays, that's it right now. It's new so will be a while b4 it gets more accessories. Then again I don't remember many things using firewire either so we'll see how well it catches on.

Only other laptops with thunderbolt are a few acers and lenovos

I never used the firewire cord. But if the data transfer is quicker with the thunderbolt wire, then I guess it's just a matter of time before other people realize its utility over USB.

I'll let you know. I was really amazed by nsu but I know dmu is a heavy hitter too so I'm sure it'll be impressive.

Psh. Majority of people don't know the difference between ram and processor speed. When I say that most people cant tell the diference between hardware quality I am correct.

I don't have anything against macs I just think they're overpriced... just like I think brooks brothers shirts are overpriced.

Hmm.. interesting. What has a thunderbolt port, other than the Apple MBP?

http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt/

What is thunderbolt? Super high speed I/O (like USB) that is capable of transfer speeds up to 10gbps (yes, that's 10 GB per second!) and you can daisy-chain multiple devices together. Apple has their displays with thunderbolt, plus there are a bunch of hard drives, video processors, etc, that have thunderbolt. It's cool and fast, but I don't know if it will really catch on. It's awesome for people who compress/edit video because it allows a powerful dedicated processing device to be externally plugged into the computer with high transfer rate, and it makes backin up or downloading from your external hard drive very quick, but other than that it's just cool, not a need to have thing.
You could buy a thunderbolt hub and plug multiple devices into it and then have on cable going to your computer for it all. But I don't think it will catch on.

That sounds pretty legit. I can dig. 👍

Yeah, thunderbolt is pretty sweet...but all the peripherals are Sooo expensive!'

It's mostly for the art pros now. For
Example...they shot the hobbit onto SSD's and instead of literally weeks for it all to transfer, they can hook it up to thunderbolt ports and have a very fast connection for post productions and for backups

It is cool though and the hub idea is a great one, mr the dude 😉

Those books were pretty good, and I think the hobbit was my favorite of the books. I'm very excited for the movie. Anyone remember the 70's hobbit cartoon movie? "Where there's a whip, there's a way!" you silly goblins!

I didn't read the lotr books.. I started to but they didn't seem interesting.

Part of me is pissed that I bought the A Song of Ice and Fire series but I don't have the time to read them.

I think in December? It was November and it pushed back...and the best part is that the filming went so well, they are making it three movies!

Did you cancel AZCOM?

Rescheduled for a later date. Soon enough to still be early but late enough to hopefully have an acceptance by then.

Yeah good call. I cancelled AZCOM's invite last cycle. Was already accepted to LECOM-B and wanted to see how Nova went. But we all know the outcome of that... 😎

Wait, are you serious?

Well, if that's true I hope they do what they did with lotr, releasing one every year. I'd be fine with them releasing them sooner too, but...

Yeah...at first it was two, then a few months ago they said, now its three. And they better do it each year!

as a side note, its pretty cool to look up the next generation style videography peter jackson used to film it. He took 30 red epics (@$35K each...over 1mil in just camera) and set up custom rigs to shoot two at a time so that its real 3D. And its at least 4 or 5K resolution and at 48 frames per second, so he fills up an SSD at somewhere over 50 GB per min!

Figures you would know all about the internal mechanics of movie making. You're our go to photography guy here. 😀

That's pretty awesome! Funny thing is, they then compress and edit all that beautiful raw data into something that can actually fit on a blu ray disc...or two. Per movie. Not including bonus material. 😀
All I want for Christmas is the 15 blu ray disc set of the extended version of lotr. Only $75!
