True. I've seen E-ROAD used. We should come up with a better acronym FTW 👍

ROADE, nah. That sucks too.
Ok, my signature is starting to annoy me. Off it goes.

Dudeliness strikes again!

👎 lol

I've also seen ADORE, which is pretty good. I think we might be beat until something else pops up.

Dang...I was going to say ADORE!!

And ortho surgery can be the O too...if youre into that sort of thing

Nah, ortho doesn't have as good of a lifestyle as ADORE. The ADORE thing is about hours and money, not just money otherwise Plastics and Neurosurg would be on there too!

Of the ADORE specialties, which would be the easiest to get into? The E? How would they rank in competitiveness?

Derm >= Ophtho > Rads > Anesthesia > EM in terms of competitiveness.

EM is becoming more popular, and thus more competitive though.

I guess I wouldn't have expected being a gas doc to be so low on that grouping. Life style is pretty good with that one huh? I wonder if they have much on call.
As for radiology, I spoke with one and he said if you really like physics then go for it. I didn't think you'd have to do much physics for that since the machines/computers do it all, but whatevs.

Yea I've heard the same thing about Rads, but like you I didn't think there was physics involved.. Gas doc? As in GI? My girlfriend wants to do GI and as far as I know it isn't all that competitive. Residency is just a general IM and then do GI fellowship.

I thought GI would be up there too. Nice compensation, plenty of procedures along with different treatments, minimal on call time and the scheduling... could be very enticing but you are dealing with the digestive system in all of its unfiltered, heavily scented glory.

I was also surprised when I found out there was a fair amount if physics on the radiology boards. I really like interventional radiology, but the downside is my patients would be sedated and thus I would lose out on the more personal interaction. That's important to me.

Gas doc? As in GI?

Colloquialism that refers to anesthesiologist. I learned about that term in the residency forums, which I lurk in on occasion.
Much easier to spell gas than anesthesia.
😉

Gas, I get it now. 🙂 Anesthesia actually has a pretty low median step 1 score.. I think like 225 with the average step 1 being right around 215 or so? I know Derm is 240+ and Plastics is 250+. I believe only Plastics and Neurosurg are >250 median.

Well GI isn't on there because it isn't hard to match into an IM residency. GI Fellowship might be competitive though.

Ortho surgery?? Let's be RealListic, here 😉

*(first, nice pun😉 )

Yeah Yeah, I know its now as vogue now to include it, but compare private practice Ortho to Optho. Optho starts way below the Ortho pay scale and if you are in a group practice Ortho you can work 7-4 surgical days and 8-5 clinic days. While making a lot o money...Such is the life of the Orthos I shadow.

Optho isnt bad, but its quite a bit of work to get things going.

This order changes year to year

We should switch it up and really call GI docs, gas docs.👍

Wow. My brother in law got a 252, or maybe it was a 242. If he can do it, so can I. Lol

Fixed it for you 😀

Yea, a friend of mine got a 245, girlfriend got a 257. Gotta do better than my girlfriend... She was borderline top 25% of her class in pre-clinicals and she's historically a not great standardized test taker. So that's proof that you can do really well on Step 1 even if you aren't top of your class or great at tests.

Wow...what was her secret? And by secret I mean strategy...😉

I'd come to expect the physics... even the techs are grilled on physics to a degree.

ugh I need to get either tapatalk or the sdn mobile app. this free one I just got doesnt let me quote anything. too bad I don't have secure wireless at work.. not going to put my credit card info out on this guest wireless network.

What is different about Tapatalk compared to using the mobile app?

This I would also like to know.

I go by The Dude, but you can call me Sir Dude, Your Royal Dudeness, or Duderino, whatever...

New signature? How's that working out for you? 😀

Well, I've actually never seen the big lebowski but someone mentioned it to me, and about the dude. Seems appropriate. What do you think?

Yes I'd like to know too. Tapatalk is $2.99 and I think SDN is $0.99

I can't think of the actor's name, but I like how the character he played in Tron was exactly like in the big lebowski.

I'm not entirely sure but part of the reason in price difference between the two could be that Tapatalk lets you connect to thousands of online forum where as the SDN app is forum specific.

Do you know the difference between the paid version of Tapatalk and the free version? Obviously there will be more options, but is the paid version worth it?

Jeff bridges. Pretty god actor imo

I use jailbroken free Tapatalk. I like it.

Tapatalk is the company that made the sdn app. The functionality and design is the same, only diff is that tapatalk app works for thousands of forums and sdn version works just on sdn.

Tapatalk doesn't have a free version, that just might be some 3rd party app that allows you to forum browse or maybe a trial.

For android getting paid apps for free is very easy, no root or jailbreak needed, you could probably Google and find out how. But come on its a few bucks and the developers should be rewarded for their hard work.

Free version is called "Convo" and it says "Convo by tapatalk" when you download it!

never tried it. That one is NOT made by the same company though. It's a 3rd party client. But if it gets the job done then go for it.

If the only forum you go to is sdn just get the sdn app. If you browse a bunch of diff forums that are then get the full tapatalk.

I mean it's fine except for the fact that I can't quote posts.

Time to suck it up and fork over the $0.99. 😀

Really what's holding me back is not wanting to input my credit card number on my phone.

Edit: Oh but apparently I can do it from google on my laptop..

yeah it's linked to Google account.

Also even on your phone it uses ssl encryption just like laptop, and in fact a mobile network is probably more secure than ur wifi network, and your phone is way less likely to have some sort of malware or virus that can steal your info.

Similar to downloading apps from the iStore and then synching them to your Apple media device? Then do it.

I downloaded the SDN app for my iPad when it was free during promotion. 👍 I also forked over the whopping $0.99 for my Android.
