See what I have come to realize, though I do so with a heavy heart, is I must decline the appointment of official countdown keeper. The problem is that without fearJackBauERfan said:yeah, but he can still help with the countdown, since he has been officially appointed as Countdown keeper on SDN emergency med forum.

irrka said:alright, let's hear the dirt on these two: boys/girls, cool/uncool, etc. etc. etc. do your job EF! seriously! you'd think you were hanging out here just to post pad! sheesh!! 🙄

EctopicFetus said:Well one of them is actually Lafiera so i wont say anything bad about her 🙂 the other student is also a female. Both honestly great people. Nice smart and happy which IMO is all you could ask for from any resident. you guys should have an AMAZING class. I couldnt be happier than a pig in poop that Arizona found me worthy!! Im super excited about being there!!! Ill say this for Jack and irrka you wont be sad when you meet my 2 classmates. Both are awesome people and I would be lucky if I could be in a program with either of them let alone both of them!!!
All that being said they are different from one another but thats not a bad thing!
JackBauERfan said:cool, yeah well most people going into EM are cool right! Yeah its gonna be fun hott in az! I'm actually a closet arizona cardinals fan (used to live near st. louis, which they are from) and never lost track of them just because they moved out west! And this year with the addition of Edge and WR fitz/boldin, its gonna be a fun year. But I HAVE been dissapointed many times by them, I still have confidence that they will kick some serious booty.
irrka said:EF: you're just not a fun gossiper; i know everyone is great, i just wanted some details, since you're in the position to know 😉 but go ahead and be pc.... i guess i'll have to forgive you....

I'm originally from Buffalo, NY! MUCH nicer weather in Tampa 🙂 My mother relocated to Apollo Beach 3 years ago and I have a lot of family around the state. They all decided that Buffalo was for the birds, apparently. Where are you from?gujuDoc said:Are you new to the Tampa area or originally from there?? I'm asking because I'm from the region.

EM Residency Programs Still Strong
On Match Day last week, emergency medicine continued to be one of most popular specialties with 1,251 first-year residency positions offered, trailing only internal medicine, family practice and pediatrics. This years match offered 63 more positions than last year, thanks in part to a redistribution of federal GME funds. Of the positions offered, 1,218 were filled (97.4 percent), but the number filled by US medical school seniors dropped 4.5 percent from last year, according to the National Resident Matching Program. See how the future of emergency medicine fared, and compare its numbers to the past six years with the complete Match Day results available at www.nrmp.org. And watch for an analysis on the emergency medicine trends in resident matching in the April edition of ACEP News.
Personally I like the competition idea myself 🙂CS_22 said:BKN, any insight as to why less US Seniors into EM? Was it less interest or more competition/acceptence of non-US seniors?
I ask because I helped a good friend scramble into Peds, and the student coordinator here said that there just weren't many spots in all specialties. This year there were only 88 Peds spots to scramble into. Seems like alot of different places/specialties filled.
Just wondering if you could share any insight.

Since you are so interested I thought I'd pipe in and let you know a little about myself- I'm 7 feet tall, look like Angelina Jolie, have a photographic memory, am the envy of every woman in Chicago, can speak 15 languages fluently, and can bench press 1000 pounds with my index fingers.
He he, you'll just have to wait and see! I can't wait to meet you guys!
southerndoc said:Keep in mind that the "us seniors" number is for graduating seniors only and does not take into account the number of people who are doing second residencies, switching residencies, or who took a year off to do research.
BKN said:Well 63/1251 = 5% more slots, 4.5% less us seniors in 105% of 2005 slots sounds like nearly identical number of us seniors each year. Looks like we're still in equipoise and the DOs and IMGs are scarfing up the new slots.

Yep, I'll be one of your seniors when you start in another year and three months or whatever you guys have as the count. Live up your intern year and be prepared for the trenches.JackBauERfan said:I think TBP is already a resident there....not sure but I think from previous posts I remember.
