Hi all! I know this is really early but I figured I'd start the thread now so it's up and ready when the invites start coming. And it's an excellent source of procrastination! Though it could be a boost of inspiration to finish the last of the essays and apps so then you can spend even more time check the thread :p

Whenever you get an invite, feel free to either reply to this post OR feel free to PM me with the info. Share however much you are willing to share about the invite (school, POI, how you got the invite - email/call/snail mail/etc, when the interview dates are, you get the idea...) The only request that I have is that when you notify either me (via PM) or the board of an invite offer, please spell out the whole name of the school so people don't confuse one BU for another BU, etc.

I plan on checking at least once a day and when January comes, I'm sure I'll be checking more often than that and updating as often as possible. Til then, good luck, kick butt, and finish up those essays and personal statements!!! :luck::luck::luck:

Damn, not sure why I got all excited about seeing an interview thread pop up. Especially since I'm not applying anywhere. Of course, my thought immediately afterwards was "who the frak is inviting people this early?"

G'luck everyone! :luck: (And find a hobby to pass the time! Er, other than SDN, that is.)

Yay, I was hoping this thread would get started again! I wish you the best of luck blindchaos, the information comes fast and furiously, but it is a lot of fun as well!

Three "w00t"s for Blindchaos! Did I use the new Merriam Webster's 2007 word of the year right? Actually, I have never seen or heard it used until today.

Should this thread begin with the entire list of schools which Irish posted last year? No need to re-invent the wheel. Just get the list Irish already created. Is there anyreason any of the schools will be radically altering their interview dates? I found it interesting that despite there being so many applicants on SDN, there were still a number of schools on Irish's list which had no information about interview dates. Maybe this year the list can be even more complete.

Someone should start a "I got rejected from (insert school) " thread. We could vent and support one another in our misery. :D

ugh! I got freaked out that people already had interviews and it made me sad.

Haha for anyone who's really super anxious, I do remember that when I applied to the University of Alabama I had an email from my POI around this time in December saying that a grad student would be calling me to conduct a preliminary phone interview.

Just an FYI, so now everyone who applied there will obsessively check their email, haha.

Not unless you were in my house while I was on the phone, since I didn't make it past the phone interview stage.

Yeah this thread is already going straight to my head :p I had a dream last night where I woke up (in the dream) and checked the board and found that someone had replied saying they were invited for interviews at two universities, one of which is towards the very top of my list and I freaked out wondering if I would get an invite too or if it would be my first rejection :p

That will happen to you. I also had someone say that my current school had sent out interview invites three days before I got mine. Perhaps my specialty was behind, I don't know, but that was a major bummer. At least they came through for me though :).

Good luck everyone! I also believe that running the list provides the person with good luck for the process, so I expect to hear great things from you blindchaos (I am biased though since I did it last year).

I will do my best :) Also just FYI, check the original post to see when it's updated - each time I check I write it in at the bottom so people know I'm actually checking :) As of 2:20pm PST today (12/13/07), I have not been notified of any schools offering interview invites. Four weeks from now will be a very different story! January is going to be one crazy month! (as will February...and March.......and April. But January is the first one!)

Got a phone call from Alliant/CSPP San Diego today for an interview on Jan 25

Congrats!!! You are officially the first one on the board :)

Is this only for clinical psych. Ph.D. programs?
I was wondering if there's a thread for counseling psychology.
Seeing the posts is making me freak out!!

I'll post notices for any psych doctoral programs. It's up to each person to specify what program they are talking about, should they choose to share that information. I would also encourage people to specify which degree (PhD vs. PsyD) they are referencing for the schools that have both a psych PhD and a psych PsyD program (ie: Denver).

For those that choose to share interview invites (either by replying via thread or PMing me)....
Necessary info: Name of school
Optional info: type of program (PhD vs. PsyD, counseling vs. clinical), POI, track, how/when you were invited, who invited you, when interviews are, what type of interview (phone, in person, informal open house disguised as an interview...), etc.

Please don't feel obligated to share all the info above :) Just share whatever you are comfortable with (and the list could get a bit bulky if everyone reports every single little thing about the invite, as much as we all obsess over the info :) )

Well.. I got two interviews so far.

1. Indiana Univ. - Bloomington (Counseling Psych. Ph.D.)
invite: 12/12, interviews: 1/20-21, 27-28

2. Univ. of Missouri - Columbia (Counseling Psych. Ph.D.)
Actually I got interviewed today by a grad student. He told me the final candidates for the final interview at Jan.
will get an e-mail or call by next week, which means I'll know whether or not I'm still in by next week!! :scared:

congrats on the interviews!

I feel okay as I am not applying to those. This is SO stressful!

congrats! Anyone else shocked that invites are coming out so early?! I agree with SMS - I feel okay at the moment b/c I didn't apply to any of the three schools on the list thus far, though for a while I considered Missouri-C.

This seems a bit early to me, but props to those schools for getting things together early and giving everyone enough advanced warning to book decent airfare (though it all seems high to me now).

Why is it that I got nervous when I saw schools on the list and I am a first year in a Clinical PhD program, lol. I guess my anxiety is learned.

Good luck everyone. Just remember that you will win some, you will lose some, but it only takes one good interview to get an offer.

What!!??

I was told that the schools fly you out. Was I misinformed?

Some schools take care of all of your travel expenses, some will cover part of it, and some do not cover anything.

Most schools don't cover any of it.

Is there any rhyme/reason to this? Private funded universities may fly you out where non-funded professional schools may not. (ie: Columbia University vs. PGSP)??

A professor told me that I would be put up the entire weekend on their tab. How sweet is that!!??

Thanks. Do most schools in counseling & clincial psychology give their interview offers this early? I'm starting to get obsessed with checking my e-mail.

The only school I applied to that paid anything was University of Kansas. The rest of them, didn't pay a damn thing. Didn't matter who it was as far as quality of school.

KU rocks just for picking up the tab. I was impressed for other reasons, but that was a nice bonus. I believe that USU might have picked up the tab had I asked, but I was out visiting my parents as part of the deal anyway.

PGSP definitely doesn't cover anything, but then again a lot of the University-based programs don't either. You're just expected to eat the cost as part of the application experience.

I know that Emory and Vanderbilt pay for expenses (well, at least a certain percentage of the plane ticket and hotels). I am trying to remember other schools I have reliable information on. Most schools seem to offer the option of staying with a current graduate student since they can't afford to pay for hotels. In fact, last year there was a debate about if you should take the option of staying with a graduate student or staying in a hotel if you can afford it. Remember the story of the visiting student who killed the graduate students cat!

Some of the non-clinical/ counseling programs may offer more trip funding since they are getting much less students and it is so specialized.

I doubt any school that can not even offer funding is going to pay for an interview trip. So do not expect anything from any NY school except for a lunch.

I heard that if you go visit RayneeDeigh, she uses her Canadian singles stipend to pay for your visit!:D You also get a leftover pink SDN Jazz Lover's shirt, a custom sock puppet, and all the bugs you want!:D

Haha no kidding. I've already mentioned to some SDNers that if they interview at my University they're welcome to stay with me since I have a two bedroom apartment with a sofabed in the living room. Party at my place. Haven't seen a bug in over a week so I think the coast is clear. :scared: (but of course now I've jinxed myself)

Bugs creep me out, so I'd have nightmares.....of course, I'm not interviewing for a program, so I'd be NA anyway. I am interviewing for internship though, but not up in snow Canadia....though I am looking at a place in upstate NY, which is practically canada!!!

Nope, interview offers this early is unusual (the application deadline for most schools isn't til tomorrow!). You'll be able to tell when most schools are sending offers because the list will expand like crazy. Last year, if I recall correctly, most interview invites came in through January and early February.

Wow. That's good news. I feel a little bit relieved now. :)

I am planning on opening up my place to interviewee's. I had so many nice people help me out that it only seems right to give back a little. I would even open my place to people interviewing at other schools in the DC area. So if someone finds themselves stuck, PM me, I will see if I can help.

wow. That is very generous of you! :)

Results for couseling psych. Ph.D. at Univ. of Missouri - Columbia are out!!
I got a call several minutes ago and they're going to send e-mails next week with more specific information. The date for interview is 1/18-19.

I 'probably' wouldn't have a problem hosting someone if they came down, but I don't know my interview schedule yet, so TBD. Oh, but see...that'd be a problem. It is the whole, "now that you know (I'm a normal guy), I'm going to have to kill you" thing. :D

What??? Link?

I'm in richmond so anyone applying VCU holler at me. I'm mostly applying to schools in the South and NYC.

Hey: Therapist4Chnge, does NOVA Southeastern do interviews for both the Psy.D and PhD programs? Any timeline you could give me? NOVA is a pretty top choice for me!

Yup, interviews for both, during the same 2 days.....it is kind of a cluster f'. I am usually around doing grad student interviews, so if you make it that far, you'll probably see me. :D

I'd guess the first friday and next monday of march. They tend to do it the same time every year, so that would be my guess.

don't you worry, im def not direct competition..for York I didn't specify a POI because both profs I wrote to wrote back saying they weren't taking a student, so I sent in an unspecified app - bad idea right? we'll see!

One more added to the list. (just wanted to add a message b/c just looking at the list of threads you can't tell if/when I update/edit the list unless you click into this thread but posting a new message bumps it up the list of threads)
