So it gives me great comfort to know that I am not the only person who is compulsively checking email and jumping every time the phone rings. I haven't received any interviews either. Is it wrong of me to think of alternatives (eg: Master's programs in Clinical psychology) even though it's only February?

Does anyone know of research positions valid for 1 year? I'm an international student and if I don't get in this year, I don't want to have to go back to my country and miss out on valuable practical experience here.

P.S: If anyone says to me "It's not the end of the world" one more time, I AM going to play in traffic.

Peace.

Also- if one more person tells me that I am GOING to get in, I am going to throw myself off a bridge. Everyone means well, but I just feel like I'll be letting them down if I don't get in.

YES. I know my friends all mean well, but really. When the acceptance rates are 3-7% (and in some cases even lower than that), nothing is guaranteed. I wish people understood just how competetive it is, especially when compared to other fields.

I know!! When I tell people my plans, they sometimes people have this look of surprise or condescension and I feel like I have to justify my decision to them with acceptance rates. "It's actually VERY difficult to get in - I swear! I'm not an idiot!" (or maybe I AM an idiot for choosing something so difficult...)

I found a website for those of you who keep wondering whether a certain university has extended an interview/rejection/acceptance...etc.

http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php

It's updated several times/day.

I have to agree with socialcog- I think it's too crazy of a website. I found it last year, but I think it takes more time to read through it than it's worth. I found SDN to be much more helpful. Plus, how many websites does one need to make one out of one's mind. SDN is plenty of anxiety for me.

the puppy bowl is amazing

I just watched the first part of it at work (then rushed home to watch the super bowl) but I swear the first puppy bowl "touchdown" was really a safety! the little guy took the ball, ran all the way down to one endzone, and then ran all the way back and laid down under the goal posts of the original endzone! Maybe he's playing for both teams...

Did anyone apply to:

University of Missouri Kansas City

or (and more importantly)

University of Texas Southwestern

Those are the only 2 schools that I applied to that I have not heard from and are not on the list...but if no one else applied there I can't count on it being on the list when invites are extended.
I have applied to UT southwestern, the ad co-ordinator told me last week that interviews will be extended in the first week of Feb....so I am going to keep my hopes up till the 7th

I emailed someone at Columbia and she said that they would be making their decisions about who they want to interview in the next week or so, and they would be notifying people via email.

I wonder if they'll use that message center feature that's part of the online application...

I don't know if this is of any value to anyone but I noticed Auburn is not among those on the master list. I was invited in for an interview on Jan. 11th for Feb. 16th via e-mail. Their website says that they've made all of their invitations. I'm hoping others have been invited here but assumed just like I did that others would post the interview info.

I know one person has heard from Binghamton so far, but has anyone else? Or actually, did anyone else even apply there? If no one else on here did it won't do me any good knowing that no one else heard. 😛

so i just need to vent quick... wayne state didnt understand that a transcript I sent them from a college had a different name because the college changed it. so instead of letting me know, they write my application is complete online for two months then yesterday I get a letter about it. Now however it is too late and the clinical psych program's deadline is long past and they have extended invites.😡

They better refund your application fee! I would make a big stink about this. That is not right.

Wayne State is notorious for being terrible about application stuff. I know people who applied there last year both for clinical psych and social work and had similar problems with things getting lost, etc. Have you tried contacting your POI about it?

No not yet. i just got the letter yesterday... but they've already extended invites and there is a waiting list, I don't feel theres much I can do. Plus, if this is the way things are run there I'm not sure I even am interested anymore, not that I should be picky, my options are getting slimmer by the day 🙁

I've seen a few other people post their status... and I'm bored.

Assumed Rejections (nothing formal, but they've extended invites):
- Rutgers
- SDSU/UCSD
- Stony Brook
- Georgia State
- UConn
- Vanderbilt

Interviews:
- Louisiana State

Waiting On:
- Binghamton
- Albany
- UMass Boston

I agree with everyone else - if ONE more person tells me not to worry, UGH. I'm thankful for my one interview, but I'd feel a whole lot better if I at least had another one! *crosses fingers* I hope this is the week...

I think you should worry. In fact, be extremely worried. Because all of these rejections are not a good sign. So be worried. In fact, worry yourself into a tizzy.

I'm glad you appreciated my attempt at paradoxical therapy. I was afraid you might be offended. Seriously, it annoys me too when people tell me not to feel something. It's really counterproductive and not very supportive. Some people just don't know how to behave, what can I say?

 Ok, I shall!

Once again, just because you didn't get an interview doesn't mean you are rejected. As long as you don't have a rejection letter you are still a candidate for that school. A lot of times schools have trouble filling their open spots from the people they invite for the interview because some of them turn out not to be good fits and some of them simply choose to attend another program. In this case the schools accept a few of those in the wait list to their program without interviewing them. I wouldn't lose my hopes until I get rejected officially from any school.

Well, I must admit that at first I laughed (especially when I read the "Because all of these rejections are not a good sign."), but then I stopped and was like... wait was empathiosis being funny (as how I took it) or MEAN!? Haha. Then I realized I had said "if ONE more person.." and validated my thoughts for the humor. I almsot did respond with anger though.

I hate the waiting game. I've called Binghamton three or four times today so I could speak with someone and find out when interview invites are going to be extended. I got a machine every single time (and hung up). I hope they don't have caller ID!

I also called Albany and I'm a bit confused. The lady said invites for interviews would be extended in early March. I didn't want to push it, but... that's when the actual INTERVIEW is supposed to be so I'm not sure if this information is accurate.

The interview for Albany is scheduled for the first weekend in March

All right, then I will plan on having an interview for March 1st!! <-- Look, I'm trying to be optimistic!

Do you know if/when invites will be extended? Or if they already have been? I actually applied to a professor I'm not 100% sure is taking a student so... we'll see.

I'm sorry this happened to you...and you're right to question whether or not you want to be there. But, I'd follow up with your POI just to let him/her know what happened and that it's unacceptable.

I also applied to Binghamton but have received no response. I actually was invited to an interview last year with them but was unable to attend. Keeping my fingers crossed but am losing hope at this point.

Would you mind sharing your POI? Feel free to PM me if you want.

I received an email today from the department secretary at Fairleigh Dickinson inviting me to their interview which is 2/16 and 2/17
More info on FDU. The Admin Assistant told me that "The interview dates are Feb 16 and 17th. If you get an interview you will be notified by e-mail during the time period of the 4th through the 12th of February."
So perhaps there is still hope for those who have not yet been invited.

it seems that they are still reviewing the applications...and I haven't heard that any professor has notified students as of yet...I will try to find out more on that...good luck!

Well, that's good to know. Do you go there for undergrad?

Hi all,
I'm new to the site.
Here are my interview invites so far:

Michigan State (Clinical PhD), interview 2/15

George Washington (Clinical PhD), email invite on 1/29/08 for 2/22 or 2/25 interview

Central Michigan (Clinical PhD), "optional" open house on 2/22

Still waiting on several other programs.

Yes, everyone keeps saying this, but it's difficult to see it that way. 😎 I would appreciate a nice letter informing me of my status - rejected or wait listed. Perhaps I should send all of my graduate programs this memo. 😉

This was a big issue last year, with places not even notifying people they were rejected, but instead going....."well you didn't get an invite, right?" I forget the worst offenders, but it wasn't an isolated incident.

Is there anyone who is officially invited for interview from TC Counseling PhD? I've got an email that says the interview will be held on Feb. 21 and 22, but haven't heard anything back yet. No rejection no invitation nothing. On the thread it says "email invites". Does it mean there ARe people who are already invited for an interview? Ugh.. I'm confused..... actually I think I'm going kinda insane... waitingisfun. huh? ,. 😳

I just received an email from the admissions committee chair inviting me to their interview day. It is Feb. 19 🙂

I know most of you already gave up on SDSU/UCSD but I just haven't faced that reality yet ... I just checked the Application Status Check and noticed it said "UNIVERSITY EVALUATING FILE FOR PRELIMINARY ELIGIBILITY" and it says the status date was 2/5/2008. My transcripts have also been posted (I checked last Saturday maybe and it still said missing). Since I've been out of town, I don't know if it said this yesterday (before the dreaded "final call on Monday") -- maybe there is a slim glimmer of hope they are still reviewing apps? Maybe?

Do any of you have anything different on your Webportal?

I am an international student too.. I have to go back to my country if I don't get in this year too.. so I feel your pain... right there with ya!!!! and I don't want to hear "you'll get in" or "it's not the end of the world"!!!

Hate to say it, but it's over. Someone called Sandy and she verified that all invites have been extended. However, my application status is the same (Haha.. incomplete even though I've sent my transcript 3 times already. They said they would still review it though..), so maybe something is going on with your's. Call Sandy yet again? Maybe we should just tell her to go on sdn and officially post it. Haha! Then we can promise we'll stop calling. 😉

I've pretty much given up too...but I did just check my status and it says the same thing...mine was dated February 4th...I don't really know what that means...there could just be a delay in them changing the status...it'd be nice if there was still a chance...I'll let you know if I hear anything else though (most likely a rejection letter/email :S)

I just sucked it up and emailed Sandy. I have this crazy schedule anyways, so if I do get rejected from them, I can switch another interview to those dates and it would make things easier on me. I would have much preferred getting an invite, but whatever. (Cognitive Dissonance much?) Ugh. It ain't over till Sandy emails me back!!!

I will PM you w/ what I hear back. I mean, if they did just barely change the status, they should have also changed it to REJECTED ...!!

Their Clinical Program will be making official interview decisions next week for an interview set on 2/29 : )

Hey Waitingizfun. I received an official interview invite from TC. The email that announced the inerview dates was a general mass email sent to all applicants. My invite arrived via email a few days later. I believe all invites have been extended. If you want more info. feel free to PM me.

Hey all - UMass Boston is now on the list BUT don't freak out yet!!! Someone previously mentioned that invites will be extended Feb 6- Feb 8 so don't panic if you haven't gotten an invite yet. I'm guessing one prof just started a bit early (inviting tonight rather than tomorrow). So don't panic! The invite time will vary by prof 🙂 Not that that really helps a whole lot with the waiting...just wanted to remind people (myself included) that you/we still have til the end of the day on Friday to find out! Good luck all!!! :luck::luck::luck:

My POI contacted me personally last Friday to tell me that they could not invite me for an interview. She said that each professor was only allowed to pick one student to come for an interview each because there are too many profs who want students. I believe everyone was contacted around that date, although if your POI couldn't get their first choice to come for an interview, you might be next in line...

Invites for Nova Southeastern University (Ph.D. & Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology) are going out this week. Interview days are March 3rd and March 10th.
Thank you for sharing this info with us, do you know if they're sending by phone or email?
