I know this subject has been posted about before, but I just heard back from one of my schools and the email said I was invited to visit campus and interview with faculty, but also said "If you would like to interview by telephone, please email me a list of times including day and evening, weekday and weekend times when you would be available to receive a phone interview and the number(s) at which you can be reached." The tone of the email didn't sound like it looked negatively on the telephone interview as a substitute, but I'm wondering if there is a better way to tell. If it would really make a difference then I would think more seriously about the travel, but the school is located on the other side of the country. Also, if I did interview and it became one of my top choices/I was accepted I would want to visit before saying yes. (right now I don't have a clear ranking of my choices)

Does anyone visit after they have been admitted? Or later on after a phone interview once they get a better sense of their options?

Also, would it be ok to say something like- the travel cost would make it particularly difficult for me to attend the in person interview so I would prefer a phone interview, but could do an in person if necessary? I just don't want to sound like im not interested.

Phone call and follow-up email from dept. admin. on 1/23 for an interview at American on 2/9. Originally they had said there would be two interview dates but I was only offered the one.

Got a call s few hours ago from American about an interview on February 9th

So...I'm gonna go ahead and repost this from earlier on in the thread

...

So let's all take a deep breath in, and calm down.

Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the post blindchaos, a good sense of perspective for all of us. I appreciated the personal detail on dates to give us a good idea of what to expect.

Ahh, guess this means I didn't get one at American. Oh well, congrats to you both 😀

Anyone gotten that U Florida e-mail yet? If your app is complete, it should be a mass e-mail. If it is incomplete, you will get a personal e-mail. If you get NOTHING, then something is seriously wrong with your app. Since the psych department does not have an app status page, there is no way to know whether everything/anything was received.... So anyone hear back yet??? 😱

I didn't get the email and I'm totally freaking out!! I got the confirmation of receipt email months ago though, should I email the admissions office to find out if they got my application??

Hey.. I dunno. I didn't get the e-mail either. Maybe there were just too much to go through???? Are you sure that all your stuff was in? I fed-exed my stuff (since it was coming from Canada, and mail can sometimes take FOREVER to go across the border), so I am sure that it was delivered and everything. I don't know how I could be missing anything so crucial that it would not even be able to be looked at. This was all from the dept. program assistant earlier today. Crap at it being Friday! (Never thought I would say that!) 🙁 Well, let's see if anyone else writes in about UF.

If harnessed, the anxiety contained within this thread could easily power the city of NY for at least 1 hour. :scared:

5 schools applied to, no acceptances or rejections yet. My top choice did contact me to state that there are issues with my GRE score. Despite having a master's degree and 6 years of research experience, 1 publication and 3 published abstracts, my GRE is still being considered. I don't understand at all. I'm ready for this process to be over with.

i hear u!! i'm in the same exact boat..grrr

I logged on my gatorlink account and it says there that all application information, transcripts and GRE scores have been received. Sigh, I guess we're going to have to be more patient about this whole process! Thanks for the information though 🙂

There are two interview dates at AU, and the people invited to the second date may be notified a bit later than the people invited to the first date. Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure that happened last year.

Yeah, mine says that it is all there as well. And I did receive the early confirmation e-mail. However, when I spoke w/ the woman this morning, she very emphatically said that these were two different things, and that what they are doing now is going through the applications and seeing which people had actually bothered to check the psych website (and thus had everything correctly sent to the psych dept., instead of just applying to the general graduate school, which I believe that gatorlink site is linked to). I checked my stuff, and I had addressed it correctly, so I have no idea why there is a problem. Yeah, just cross your fingers that they are just behind on sending the e-mails out!

Okay, thanks. I won't give up hope yet 😀

University of Tennessee, Knoxville clinical Ph.D. program, phone call from POI
interviews are on February 27th

My first interview invitation ever!

I applied to U of TN, but didn't hear back....
who is your POI? just out of curiosity

UC Berkeley School Psych PhD interview invite
Phone interview on Feb 9th or in-person on the 10th
Call and email from program assistant (I missed the call)

I received an interview invitation from Northeastern University's Counseling PhD via an e-mail from the acting DCT. The interview date is Feb. 27th.

Okay...so I do have a question though. They recently went from being a combined program (cousenling/school) to two seperate programs. They said this in the e-mail:

"One fact about our program that you should be aware of prior to the interview is that the new Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program is currently not accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), even though the program is based on the training model of our existing combined doctoral program in counseling and school psychology, which is accredited by APA. We will seek APA accreditation for our new program as soon as we are eligible."

How concerned should I be about this? How long will it take them to get re-accredited?

Virginia Commonwealth Univ (VCU) Clinical PhD
Phone call from DCT secretary on 1/23/09
Interview dates: 2/6/09 and 2/27/09

(I think VCU may have already been posted on the main page, but 2/27 was not listed as an interview date)

Guess Loyola-Chicago got their interview invites sent out early as I got an invite email as well!

haven't heard anything yet

i called them one or 1 days ago...i was told they havn't extended invitations yet, and are just starting to look at apps. but let's keep each other informed about whatever/whenever we hear from them?

To be honest, I'd be fairly concerned. If the program does not gain APA creds, then you run a bit of a risk. I just applied to clinical internships, and many (some may argue, most) require applicants to be from APA-approved programs. Cutting your internship, post-doc, and jobs beyond graduation (e.g., VA psychologist positions & most med centers also want APA creds) chances down at this point is not the wisest move. All of the above processes are getting increasingly competitive. If you want to stay on the competitive edge, I would make sure your grad program is accredited.

All of the above can be argued, but personally, I wouldn't want to take the risk.

I've got the unofficial report that the Boston College Counseling PhD interview is on Monday Feb 9th and Tuesday Feb 10th.

Am in the BC Masters Program here and got the unofficially confirmation from a faculty member regarding interviews- They said letters should be going out soon. BC takes awhile to contact people. Hope that helps. Good luck!

thanks for the info about BC! are they sending the letters out via e-mail or snail mail?

Not sure how BC is going to contact people. But word should be out early next week. Good luck everyone!!!

leavingprov,

I just got an email from Xavier (PsyD) this is what it said:

I was confused as to whether this is an official interview or not??? is this the same email you got...or did they tell you that you had an interview??

"Based on the review of your graduate application, I am pleased to invite you to attend an all day Orientation/Information Day on Friday, Feb. 20th. This is an opportunity for you to gather more information about our doctoral program, our department and Xavier University. Further details about this event are being mailed next week, but I wanted to inform you so you could add this to your calendar.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 513-745-1053 or by email to [email protected]"

I am confused by the email.

I am confused by the email.

I got the same email and leaped to the conclusion that it was an interview. But, yeah, it IS a bit confusing. Maybe it isn't a real interview but rather just an open house.... ? What program does that? Hmmmmmm. I will join you on the confused boat and hope that someone else can offer some help.

Well it said we would recieve a letter in the mail in the next week..maybe the letter will be more clear about whether this is an interview or not

Ill let you know if I learn anything new leavingprov

Hey leavingprov,

I sent an email to one of my professors who is a graduate of Xavier's PsyD program emailing him the email we received from Xavier and asking him if it was an interview...this is what he said

"This is both an interview and a sales pitch on their part. You should be very excited and proud that multiple programs are expressing an interest in you, this is a very good sign. Xavier invites some, but not all of the applicants, to come and visit. Throughout the day (though if I remember correctly you can finish as early as mid-afternoon) there are a variety of different opportunities to interact with faculty and current students. Activities include tour of their facilities, lunch, panel discussions, and my favorite part competitive interviewing. Meet with me sometime and I can tell you more details about it."

So it sounds like we have an interview...Congrats!!

Hi everyone, i have an etiquette question here. When you receive interview invites via email, do you reply to the sender (esp if it is your POI?) If so, what do you write? Is a quick, "Thank you for the interview invitation, i look forward to meeting you and speaking further about your research" good enough or do you write more? How personal go you get? How professional do you try to keep it?

Thanks!! 🙂

these cold calls from POIs make me nervous. [luckily] i legitimately missed the call once again and got a voicemail. she called at 5pm on a saturday and the earliest i could possibly return the call is now, almost 8pm. do i have to/should i call back right away? or on a sunday? i'd prefer to just wait until Monday but i don't want her to think that i'm not very interested.

Is this person in the same time zone as you? If so, I would say you could call now, but no later than 8:30pm. Waiting until Sunday would be fine too if you need time to prepare yourself.

Just got an email from an admissions director at the Clinical Psy.D. program at Xavier inviting me to an orientation/interview on 2/20.

i just had a mini panic attack reading about this interview invite...

xavier is my top choice, and i did not get an email invite today. would you (or someone else who got an invite) mind posting or PMing me your stats? i have a 3.75 GPA and a 1380 GRE, so i'm feeling pretty confused and discouraged right now as to what i could have done wrong here 🙁 🙁 🙁

Okay, I checked last year's thread and it seems both UND and U of Montana started issuing invites around Feb 15 (give or take a few days).

Hi All,

Anyone out there apply to UC Berkeley's Clinical Science? Gotta love that 2% acceptance rate 😉
:luck::luck::luck:

My guess would be that it had nothing to do with GPA or GRE but probably other factors as a 3.75 and 1380 are both pretty strong. Perhaps your personal statement did not match what they were looking for, a transcript didn't make it, or a letter of recommendation wasn't quite as strong as another student's who, unfortunately, grabbed your spot. It could also be a lack of research or clinical experience as well as any number of other factors. It's not really worth dwelling on for too long at this point. You should take comfort in whatever interviews you did/do get and remember that this process is insanely competitive and many of us won't get in anywhere, despite seemingly off-the-charts stats.

Hey all! To those still waiting for word from Northwestern-Evanston, don't give up yet. I just got an email from my POI requesting a phone interview, with possible in-person interview to follow. So some profs are still going through apps, and you might yet hear in the next few days.

Could the person who received an invite from Concordia please PM me with the name of your POI? Thanks so much!

Way to go all, this thread is on fire. Last year, there were only a little over 500 posts at this time, we're at 849!

UF is sending out invites this week. 😉

I got an email (and then a call) today (1/25) from my POI at the University of Rochester! I applied to their clinical program. 🙂

Update: The interview weekend is Feb. 20-21.
