IS it only the clinical area that ya'll are hearing from? DD applied non-clinical, which has a deadline a couple of weeks later than clinical, so I am extrapolating that the interview notices may also be a couple of weeks later?

DD has a phone interview for a UK university next week, the funding is the difficult part, though, as you also have to seek your own scholarships

My first interview! Omg I really did not think things were looking good for me; but I got one from USUHS PhD Clinical Psych today. So for those you who lost hope....keep hope alive!

Interview 2/23

Good Luck Everyone!

I just realized they are paying for travel too, wow....

Hi there, I was wondering if there's others out there in the same boat as me who have interviews (for PsyD) at Xavier on 2/20 and U. Indianapolis on 2/20 and 2/21. Does anyone know if the first day of the Indianapolis interview ismandatory, and is it a full day?? I haven't received the info packet about the schedule in the mail yet and am getting anxious to figure out how I should arrange my travel....any info on the matter would be much appreciated!
This is my first post, though I've been lurking around here for awhile. : ) I too have been invited to both of these programs. I have decided to attend the Xavier interview all day (I asked the secretary and she said it usually runs from approximately 8:00am-3:00pm) and then fly out to Indianapolis that afternoon/evening (haven't made any flight plans yet), since it's not too far away. I got the packet in the mail on Monday-- Indianapolis has an "informal reception" from 5-7 that evening, and then a social event with the graduate students from 7- whenever. The social events/reception, from my understanding, are optional and should have no huge bearing on whether or not you get accepted--they're just for your benefit. If I can make it to at least part of them I certainly will and really want to, but I will definitely make it to the all-day interview on Saturday. I didn't want to choose between the two! I also have another interview on the following Monday, so it's going to be a crazy/exciting weekend. I hope this helps--congratulations and see you there!

I'm an undergrad @ Auburn and talked to one of my professors last night. He said that as long as everything goes to plan, they are prepared to start sending out invites on Monday.

Got an e-mail from my POI at U of Delaware. I think it was for an pre-interview phone interview. If they have 2 cuts before the phone interview, that makes 4 cuts total before you get an offer. Fun stuff.

I have only ever heard that rumor on this forum and I really hope that is not true! That would be absurd for 2 extra years of school to negatively effect your chances. I personally would not have had near the amount of contacts and research experience if I had not done a Master's first. I know many people who are currently in a PhD program who all have their Masters.

(maybe I am the wrong person to chime in though since I have not yet received an invite) 😕

I dont think this is true at all!...so I wouldn't let it worry you 🙂 🙂

Saint Louis applicants??

I am a little concerned...I applied to Saint Louis (clinical ph.d.) and I did not recieve the email about the application status update? what day did you all recieve this?...was all the information that was in the email about when the applications would be processed?

I haven't had electricity since Tuesday night due to the ice storms and it just came back on so Im trying to catch up on all the messages 🙂

thanks

I was offered interviews for both these schools but they are letting me come on alternate dates since they conflicted with other interviews:

New dates:
Texas Tech Counseling PhD: 2/19
Yeshiva Clinical PsyD: 2/12

This is going to be one busy month!!

Congrats! (since you're one step closer..🙂.

If you don't mind, could you PM your POI?
I would appreciate it.

Turns out it was an interview invite. The dates on U of Delaware are Feb. 27th, March 2nd, and March 6th.

Hey guys, in addition to getting an invite to one of my schools, my POI informed me that they are nominating me for a fellowship. I'm being cautiously optimistic but do you think this bodes well for my chances of, at the very least, getting accepted? Any chance a program would nominate all of its interview invitees?

Well, it's certainly not negative, and is very likely positive. If everyone was nominated for a fellowship, it's unlikely you would be told you were being nominated.

I was told that by BU, but I didn't think anything of it. Did anyone else who heard from BU get any indication that they were being nominated for a fellowship?😕

Edit: This is from BU's web page about scholarships/fellowships:

We try to provide funding, but it is not guaranteed for a student's entire enrollment at BU. However, for the past 5 years, all of our students who have wanted funding have had tuition remission and a stipend for the first 3 years of the program. Many students have been funded in years 4+ as well. The majority of the funding is either teaching fellowships or research assistantships but there are a few university sponsored scholarships as well. Outstanding applicants are nominated for those by the admissions committee.

(I put in the bold)...so I guess that does mean its a good thing!

Although it is a good thing, I wouldn't slack off on the interview just yet.

Fellowships are usually awarded based on GRE scores and GPA. You probably ranked very high in these criteria, but fit is much more important at the interview stage.

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing because the e-mail they sent said we should hear from our POI "shortly after Tuesday, 1/27." I'm getting anxious!

Of course! No slacking here. Still though, its something to make you feel good with all the rejection from other schools and anxiety from them all. Plus I assume it will be a plus if you get a scholarship (since they dept won't have to pay you).

Congratulations Wrinkles! -- did anyone from Delaware mention if they are done sending out interview invites? I am waiting to hear from them.

I inferred that my POI was not done sending out invites. She alluded to sending out one more invite. The invites are done by POI, so it is completely possible that more will come out.

Has anyone heard anything from UNCG. I'm still hoping. . .
I talked to them about a week and a half ago and the topic of invites came up and all they could say was "soon". As far as I know they haven't sent them.

Thanks!! It's always good to know when to expect these things!!!:luck::xf:

I got a call on Wed from my POI inviting me to the interview weekend (child clinical) after a short conversation about research interests. I got an email from the grad secretary on Thursday with details about the weekend. I think its deffinetly worth it to call the grad secretary and see whats up. Not so sure about emailing your POI.

Thanks! I'll shoot them an email. :xf:

In my experience, fellowships can come from many different places - so it really depends on what type of fellowship you were offered and where the funding is coming from. In my dept, I've seen fellowships used as sort of a 'carrot' for prospective applicants, as it can make a dept appear much more attractive (especially if you are interviewing with programs with less funding). Although it could be merit-based, it also could be a function of the advisor and his/her access to resources. If the latter is true, then it's possible that your POI has a fellowship slot to offer this year and may be offered to some/all applicants as an enticement. While it's a good sign, it's too hard to figure out what this does for your chances.

Remember there are a lot of people that look great on paper, but appear to be less of a fit come interview time. Some may have better stats than others, but if you rock your interview and appear to be a great match - those stats matter MUCH less. This is good for some, bad for others.

Much luck!

anyone hear from usd/sdsu? i heard they were sending out invites the end of this week for their interviews Feb 23-24

I haven't heard anything yet either...my applications status still says under academic review.

I just checked my email and saw that I got an interview to Yeshiva. I'm super excited, but it's this wednesday. I can't believe it's such short notice. Did anyone else get this email?

Email from director CHP Admissons 1/31
Interview 2/4
Clinical Health Psych PhD

I saw a post from someone on Jan. 28th about an interview invite from IIT and am wondering if anyone else has received one yet. I'm a little surprised to hear that they're sending them out already, as my application confirmation email stated that invited applicants would receive info in late February...

i didn't hear anything either. i emailed the dept asst on friday afternoon, but she didnt reply.. maybe b/c it was too late in the day. i'll post if i hear anything from her on monday.

I know this is a clinical forum, but is anyone interviewing for Temple's developmental program this Monday?

Hey All!

Can't believe it took me so long to find this forum, glad I'm not the only one going insane right now!

I'm pretty caught up on the status of all my schools except FSU-

I know that there was a post on Monday mentioning that they were still processing applications, has anyone heard anything else about their status?

Oh, looks like I didn't get an invite at UNT. Oh well, wasn't expecting one, and it's the same date as the EMU interview anyway.

Just checked my email and I got an email from my POI for a phone interview for Harvard! 😀

I think that's at least three people I see posting about phone interviews...has anyone gotten an invite for an in-person interview at Harvard? This may sound stupid, but do they have in person interviews? I haven't been able to find anything about it...

Has anyone else gotten an invite from The University of Vermont? Are they still sending out invites?

I received an invite from UVM around 1/22. I don't know if they're still sending them out, though. Good luck!

Hey guys! Has any one heard anything new from the following schools?

Boston Univ
Penn State
UCLA
UC Berkeley
UCSD/SDSU
Univ of Houston
Northwestern Feinberg
Univ of Florida

UCLA is done sending out invites for their clinical program, and Penn State's interview weekend is next week (and they already have set people up with hosts, etc.), so I think they're done. Sorry. 🙁

Email from POI at U. Washington on 1/28 to set up a phone interview.

Email from POI at CU-Boulder on 1/30 to invite me to their interview weekend on 2/27 (behavioral genetics) and 2/28 (clinical).
