OFFICIAL 2009 Where Are You Going Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anybody made recent final decisions? Mulling over tough choices this weekend?

I'm having an awful time trying to decide between Spalding University & Wright State (PsyD programs). Both are fantastic, but Wright State is a state university with low tuition & will give me half off my first year's tuition. Spalding's amazing & I really loved it there, but how do you turn down getting out of my doctorate with reasonable debt? It's killing me!!! Anyone want to make the decision FOR me? 😉

A professor in undergrad (I'm finishing a master's now) once told me, when I was facing a choice between two relatively equal choices, that there is no right answer...until you make a choice...and then that choice is the right choice. She was referencing what the "existentialist would say". But it was good advice, in that there is comfort in knowing you won't make the wrong choice, b/c which ever you pick is the right choice.

Going to the University of Kentucky. Woohoo!

I went to wright state for my undergrad degree. The tuition is low. If you dont mind what are your interests in the field? I say this because Dayton, Ohio has some things and WSU SOPP really provides the most experinece with domestic violence stuff. besides that Dayton is pretty empty and you wont have much opprotunities.

I have a lot of interests in DV, so that was definitely a draw, particularly with their PATH program. However, Spalding has a ton of opportunities for practicum in a variety of forensic settings, since they have a forensic track. However, they are MUCH more expensive & WSU would give me half off my first year's tuition & $7,000 in stipends each year. There's a lot of stuff to weigh out, that's for sure. Did you like it for undergrad? What did you think of the professors in the psych program? I know that SOPP professors don't teach in the undergrad program, but I'm just trying to figure out if people are really happy there. So many decisions to make! 🙂

I Liked it for undergrad. I have met the director and she was very nice. The students I talk to seem very happy, but most people dont like living around here but its doable. You have you good coffee chops and a library which is about all you need in grad school.

I'm originally from Cincinnati, so it won't be TOO big of a shock for me. However, it's definitely going to take some adjusting after living in DC & Chicago for the last 10 years! Ah well, suck it up, it's only 4 years before you head off to internship, right? 🙂 I've got a big decision ahead of me, that's for sure.

after a lot of consideration, I am excited to accept for ULV's 2009 clincal-community psy.d. program.

anyone else??? PM me if you are!

CONGRATS to all of you! Especially those who pushed themselves and even tried for their top choice programs! You guys should feel really great about yourselves!

I dreamed and thought up the ULV program before I knew it actually existed. After going to undergrad in a faraway expensive place and school (NYC...haha), I feel fortunate for my grad opportunity and am excited about the great fit for both my life and my interests, even with everything that comes with it. YAY 2009!!

I accepted an offer for admission to UCF! I am SO relieved! 😀

I was accepted to Loyola College's Psy.D program in FEBRUARY and was DYING to accept it.

had one more interview at a school that i found really disappointing, but i wanted to wait and see if/what their offer was ($$ is a pathetically powerful motivator)...

Anyway, I found out today that i was waitlisted at my second school and so i can FINALLY accept my Loyola offer with full enthusiasm!!! YAY!!! 🙂

Congratulations, everyone, and good luck, wherever you may go! :luck:

I finally put myself out of my own self-inflicted misery and accepted Loyola's offer!:woot:

Totally looking forward to starting school again in the fall...until I get my first reading assignment, of course. Anyone else going to Loyola this fall?

Peace.😎

Congrats Danny! Enjoy your relaxin' time before the fun starts in September.😀

I just accepted my offer at the University of North Dakota Clinical Psych PhD program... though it's probably not surprising if you've been following my posts 😉

WOOOHOOO!

Thank you so much! I really appreciated your support all of this time, and I'm so thrilled that we both got into programs we wanted! 😀

Finally accepted an offer to Indiana State Universty PsyD program. Very difficult decision.

WOOOHOOO!

Congratulations! Now you can officially change your picture. After all, West Side Story does not have a happy ending. Besides, whoever heard of NYC gangs in North Dakota. There is precedence for changing one's picture. T4C had a different picture. So did another person who everyone thought was a woman! I think we should start a new thread devoted to selecting a new avatar for you. Well, have fun in North Dakota. That is one place I have never been.

Thank you for that information. I shall work on selecting a new avatar immediately. 😀

I went there for my interview, and it is coooold. I'll be out buying a new pair of boots, that's for sure.

Cara Susanna,
Congrats! I have been following your posts and am so happy for you, you seemed to have really worked hard to get to where you are today!

I have accepted and will be attending the University of Virginia (Arts&Sceinces)!!! I would love to talk to any of my future classmates.. Please PM me if you're headed to Charlottesville!

Cara Susanna,

Congratulations!!!!! I, too, have been following your journey as chronicled in the forum. You should take a moment or two, (or the weekend!) to relax and just enjoy your success and achievement. Revel in this!!! Best of luck to you in your future!

Thanks! My parents are planning on celebrating with me this weekend 😀
