Love letter fro UMass
For the second time this year, I received an invite at least a week after someone posted that they had received an invite. No invite does not equal rejection. Good luck!

Well, looks like programs are starting to hammer us with news (mainly bad news today though, rejection city!). I would really like to get my interview schedule more or less finalized but still waiting on a ton of places.
While its disappointing to open those incredibly well written ERAS messages, its nice to get out of limbo at least get one step closer to finalizing interviews and getting my travel organized.
Ya me too!

Kansas interview
Also, just to liven up the forum, I know everyone drools over the "top academic" programs, but I find it hard to believe they are really better or even up to par with many of the excellent clinical programs. For example, programs like Duke, Standford, MGH, etc make you spend almost 1/2 of your training doing research. How could that really make you a better cardiologist than the high-volume clinical rotations. And since number of cases do count - in both procedures and imaging - wouldn't one come out way ahead at the less "academic" program.
Of course if you want to stay in high-end academics and spend most of your time doing research instead of clinical work, the top places are the way to go, but would it really be in your favor if you actaully wanted to PRACTICE cardiology?
Any thoughts?
My thoughts as well. But there is no list (or at least I haven't found one) that has these programs. Every time someone asks what are good clinical programs, everyone just regurgitates the US News list.
As far as I know: Good programs for GENERAL CLINICAL training (I don't have anything to back this up, just what I have heard over the years) in no particular order
- Emory, Cleveland clinic, Texas Heart, Wash U, UTSW, MUSC, Wake Forest, Indiana, Cedar Sinai, Colorado
- ?UNC, Michigan, Beth Israel, Tufts, UMKC, Methodist-Houston, NYC programs (don't know much about them as no interest in going to NYC)
- If interested in one particular area then Mayo is excellent clinically - but not for general cardiology.
Other thoughts?
I will definitely send second emails.Quick Q to PC or others:
Recently my first author original research manuscript go accepted in one of the top Cards Journal. I have 4 interviews so far and have yet to hear from a few programs that I applied to. Should I email the Programs about this update ? I recently inquired about the status, wld they mind a second emails ? Would it add anything if already have several papers/abstracts ?.

I will definitely send second emails.
I did it last year with some publications and many programs appreciated it. Of course, there were a few programs that said that they can NOT add any info to the one obtain from ERAS. But I will say it's DEFINITELY worth a shot. For cardiology you need to use EVERYTHING you can. It's tough out there 😉
You guys thinks telling them about a recent acceptance for a poster presentation at AHA would be useful? (I admit its not as significant as a manuscript!!)
Was it UIC or UChicago?Invitations

They keep coming...I think I've become insensitive to rejections... :s
Hey guys, I have about 26 programs that I have not heard back from. Do you guys think I should try to contact them if I don't hear back by tomorrow? For examples except for loma linda, irvine, cedars and UCSD, none of the california programs have given out interviews yet (at least by reading this forum). It will be really hard to make last minute travel arrangements...
