Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got my third waitlist this morning. What a way to wake up. So unless UIC comes through with a miracle of miracles, I'll probably spend the next few months praying to get off a waitlist and preparing for 2016.
Wow we're in the EXACT same boat--3 waitlists and praying for an acceptance from UIC >__>
Sending positive vibes to everyone and me because this has been one heck of a ride; AAHHH I hope we all hear good news soon!!!

I just never imagined it would be this hard. I never thought that a year after submitting my application I would be sitting here trying to figure out where I went wrong. But if UIC lets me in, it would all have been more than worth it.

Yeah the frustration throughout this whole cycle is nerve-wracking. For me, I think my application itself is pretty solid, I just apparently really suck at presenting it...

What do you mean? Bad interviews?
Based on some feedback from other SDNers, I probably wrote so-so secondary responses (I thought they were pretty decent but apparently not) and/or gave mediocre responses at interviews :I Who knows, maybe I'm just too used to writing research-type papers/essays so my med school essays lacked creativity or pull and were too informative... Which sucks for me because if I need to reapply, it's not like I can pinpoint something like 'improve MCAT' or 'get more clinical experience'...it would just be...'write better'??? lol

Im planning to retake the MCAT. We can be retake buddies! Haha. That's really the only thing I can think of that's wrong with my app so I'm hoping a retake gets me more II love
Same here. I would need to retake my MCAT but I am dreading looking at those books again. Maybe next week lol.

Just got a wait list at a school that barely pulls people from a wait list! Got two more schools to hear back from...one school is suppose to respond to me next week!

Good Luck!! I should hear back from a school next week too!!

So I had my feedback from Creighton on Friday - "everything on your app looked good, the thing that kept us from offering a II was that you didn't have any upper level science courses at the time of application from your new institution, they were all in progress"....since I'm doing basically a post-bac, no kidding. I had taken 9 straight quarters including summers of 2+ science course, and had straight A's except 1 B in the middle Ochem. They must not have looked at my update letter which had 5 400 level biol classes, with 3.9, 3.8, 3.9, 3.0, 3.7 grades. Argh! I guess it's a good sign for this cycle though for them at least

But what if you're not a science major, do they still expect you to have a ton of upper level sciences? That seems unfair.

I think that statement could be generalized to "upper level courses" but since this degree for me is in Molecular, Cellular, Development Biology, that they expected upper level science courses. They also are a school that requires biochem and has this on their admissions page

Admission Requirements
Required Courses
  • Biochemistry
  • Human/Animal/Mammalian Physiology at the advanced level1
  • Statistics2,3
  • English: Two courses4

"Preference for Admission
Preference for Admission will be given to applicants who complete at least one advanced science course, in addition to the required coursework, that provides a foundation within human and/or molecular-cellular biology."

OMG I hope so!!!!!!! No acceptance here....2 waistlists...1 waiting on and yes believe it or not one more II to go!!! OMG its March!!!!
Here we go guys, its do or die!!! This cycle anyway, I'll go another!!!!

You've got this! You have to make it!!! We are all rooting for you, good news has to come soon.

They should have looked at that update letter and gave you an II. That is messed up but I hope others come along.

We're all going to make it brother.

I sure hope so. I sure hope so. Hoping I get an II this week.
I wouldn't expect anything until Wednesday or later. Tomorrow they can see where their waitlisted applicants are accepted and will use that to guide their decisions. Who do you have left to hear from?

I wonder what counts as a waitlist. Like at Case, I'm on the waitlist for the waitlist, but not the actual waitlist. Will they still be able to see my acceptances?

Hi Bananna!! So if I am hanging on 2 waitlists those schools can see that Im on 2 waitlsts and have no acceptance right? Now as far as a post interview where I am waiting on a decision can they see anything tomorrow?

Yes, tomorrow the two schools that waitlisted you can see that you have no acceptances. Maybe that means they'll take you off the waitlist!

I might be hoping for too much, but it would be nice if the schools who haven't given us a decision are able to see that we haven't been accepted and then give us acceptances!!!
Yeah I wonder if they can see anything if they made no decision on us?

The schools are able to see only acceptances
Oh good, glad to know they won't see my 30+ rejections LOL

Does anyone know if schools are more likely to accept applicants with 0 acceptances? Or do you think it's more of an afterthought if they're trying to decide between two similar applicants but one has an acceptance while the other does not?

@rukia013 I was thinking the same thing! Will my zero acceptances so far help or hurt my chances of getting into my waitlist school?
i feel like it depends on the school. my only WL told us at the interview day that ~90% of their waitlisted candidates get in somewhere, so i'm going to feel pretty stupid if i dont get in haha. idk if that's b/c they accept people who don't have acceptances though or not

From the AMCAS website:
"By March 15 of the matriculation year, each school or program have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS)."

So does this mean if we are deferred/wait listed, no one will know except for the schools themselves? And to those schools, all they would know is that we still have 0 acceptances?

Will schools be able to check an applicant's progress too? For example, let's say I was accepted at School A and School B and waitlisted at School C. As I am narrowing my decisions from my acceptances and decide to decline School A, will schools B and C see that I'm no longer "under" 2 acceptances anymore and now only have 1?

Hmm I'm not sure about that. I would assume is gets updated maybe? But that's just a complete guess

Nothing really prepares people for this type of torture.
Yeah I wish they would've just sent me the rejection when they actually decided they wouldn't be interviewing me. And my dad actually works at Rutgers lol (not the med school)
