So did you get an interview to Penn or not? Just curious if we should be expecting Penn to start rolling out invites soon or not.
Just keep checking your email. That's what I have been doing 🙂

Everyone chill. It'll be okay.

do you think VCU is reviewing applicants in the order of mail-out dates to send out interviews?

No idea. They got my full application on 8/4 and I got an interview for 8/19 on 8/8. That seems like an awfully fast turnaround and I myself was really surprised to find that I made it into their first round of interviews

That's not enough time to even pass around your app. You probably cleared through their system and got an invite. If 8/4 is Thursday and most people are off Friday in a campus environment and in the summer, and you received an invite after 1 working business day, I'm thinking this is a system generated interview invite based on your high DAT AA. Either way, an interview is an interview!

I'm thinking the rest with average matriculated stats will require a thorough board review and more time. Congrats and make sure you practice!

Yeah I'm sure nervous about only getting 10 days to practice and prepare! I'm gonna be meeting up with a dentist to practice with him

Watch YouTube videos. They're helpful. I think the biggest opportunity people get that they squander is "Tell me about yourself" that's not already listed on your application/resume. I've seen people do poorly here talking about how much they like Lebron James or they love skiing. Don't be that person. There are quite a few good books too. Go to Barnes & Nobles and read some. It doesn't matter the profession--so it can be a "How to Ace your Nursing Interview" and you can still get great advice and tips from it.

What would interviewers look for when they ask "tell me about yourself"? You gave talking about skiing as an example and I don't understand why that would be bad. I always thought a question like that was meant to get a person talking about what they do besides work, class, volunteering etc.

I honestly think reading books about how to ace an interview and stuff like that could potentially be a bad thing. Know the types of questions, answer them, have fun, and be yourself. If someone asked me to tell me about myself I'd 100% talk about my hobbies, quirks, my wife, etc.

From my understanding, that question will set up the direction of the rest of the interview. So I would definitely talk about my interest outside of dentistry. The main point of the interview is to see if you can carry a conservation with them so talk about what you know.

Maybe I wasn't clear with what I meant. You cannot just say I like Selena Gomez and in my spare time I go on tinder. You need to package yourself in a way that shows who you are both personally and professionally. Building small clay models or basket weaving is a great one. I heard someone say how they were a medic in the military and who they became from their service to the country. Don't get caught giving them Snapple facts that are all over the place and have no connection.

It's better to over-prepared than under-prepared--so long as you don't blank out or choke. Practice makes perfect; but don't be a robot about it either.

This question can be asked in the beginning, middle, or end. It also depends on if it is a closed or open interview where they have your app right in front of them. The entire interview is contingent on carrying a conversation.

Yeah, I can appreciate what you're saying and don't disagree. I think your example of not talking about skiing and not being that guy was mostly what I was referencing. If i loved to skii and was interviewing at the U or in Colorado? Heck yes I'd talk about skiing, it's a huge culture in Utah and Colorado. Even if I wasn't in a mountain-state I would still talk about it.

Ran out of time on QR and BIO was basically all embryology questions which I barely touched in school or during DAT prep. Severely killed my score.

Retaking DAT 8/29/16 keep getting great scores on my practice tests so I'm sure my results will be better the second time around...praying for more interviews once my new scores are out.

Wow that's amazing with a 17 DAT score. Also I'm sure you'll raise the score when you take it next. Anything else that might've helped your app?
