In the end a 24 is still a 24. It has been proven dat score does not correlate with dental school performance anyway. My dentist got in with a 18 and he still graduated. His friend got in with a 17 on the last week before school started and is now an orthodontist. I would argue the 24 on the 3rd retake is more impressive because he willing to go through the grueling tests three times. It shows his character and determination he have for dentistry. The guy with the 24 on his first try only show that he is book smart

I had a supplemental application from UCSF they wanted me to fill out, but I didn't. I think that is just an automatic thing if you applied there though. That's about it.

Agree with you 100%. The DAT exam is a "pay to play" exam just like the SAT. I wish everyone took the exam without prep. Then it'll be like 1988 and the average would be a 14-15AA. People have become so rich in selling you materials that teach you how to beat the exam. It's not an indicator of how good of a dentist you'd be. Don't believe me? Google how many schools have ditched the SAT.

How do you measure passion, empathy, and ability to connect to people through multiple choice? No patient cares what grade you got or where you went, they want to know if they can trust you and if you care. I don't care if a dentist had a 28AA if he looks like he doesn't autoclave his instruments or looks unkempt.

I agree with you, and one Canadian dental school doesn't even look at the DAT anymore (McGill).

HOWEVER, what do you think would be a better standardized test alternative in which everyone can take easily, and provide non-biased results?

SDN has become a place where pre-dental students, who have yet to get accepted into dental school, give ignorant opinions and advice to other pre-dental students.

For those who believe that DAT scores have nothing to do with dental school performance, please educate yourself by reading the DAT validity study published by ADA

If you're complaining about us posting in here because it's clutter, you probably need to head to the Doc and get prescribed some chill pills.

This cycle is obviously on a slower timeline than years in the past, as a result we're all kind of on edge. So please, forgive us for trying to strike conversation with our fellow peers about wanting to hear back from schools.

That doesn't prove anything at all. If you've taken statistics or biostat, you would know you can manipulate data, figures, trends, to support practically any theory you want. You can remove outliers and support your own agenda. That is a published data from the ADA that is connected to AADSAS. Take a look at the last page of your link, it's all by those employed by testing services!

Please see my attachment in the above sentences from a published source. Please use scientific data and not data from a biased source.

Ask any politician and they'll point you to sources that claim they lead the polls. Don't be condescending and tell people to "educate" themselves.

You measure passion, empathy, and ability to connect with people in your personal interview. But you also need to have a test that can show people that you can handle the rigors of a dental education. It's one difficult education and not everyone can handle it.

The research you posted suggests no link between clinical performance and DAT performance (I find it odd that they did say PAT scores were linked to clinical ability). What about academic performance?

17aa used to be the accepted average and those older dentists had no problems completing dental school. With all the new prep out, it not too hard to score high if you buy everything and study for 6 months. If someone used $1000 dollar on prep materials and study for 6 months, most likely their score will be higher than someone who study for only a month. Once you get in dental schools, everyone is on the same playing field. There wont be unlimited time and resources to study. so the person that study for a month and got a 20 is actually in a better situation than someone studying 6 months for a 24. This shows that the dat test doesnt prove anything about one potential once in dental school.

Statstic also show pharmacy avg salary has been consistent for the last 20 years, but if you ask most pharmacy students that just graduated and looking for a job they tell you how horrible the pharmacy market is. Stats can be misleading.

Great news, may I ask about your volunteer hours? And also when your secondary was completed by them? Mine just completed by admissions today and they emailed me that they will review my application very soon, I'm very nervous.

Yeah i had about 800 volunteer hours. I got the secondary June 29th and then got the application complete email on July 14th.

I thought 20 AA was 90th percentile, but I read somewhere that last year's average DAT score was 19.9 AA or something... Wouldn't that make 20 AA 50th percentile..? Uhgghh..
