The more I look at this thread, the more I realize that GPA is king 😀

Based on SDN and this thread, yeah. There's some that report an overall or science or BCP of 3.0 but not many. Too bad not ALL of the country posts on here. Sampling size is too small here.

And what I would love is to see some range stats and some standard deviations. That's usually missing from reports.

AADSAS, so far I don't think anyone has gotten an email yet..
Ok! Same. I just noticed the status change on AADSAS on Saturday. Then I vigorously searched every email folder I have lol.

See, you had nothing to worry about earlier! You're already at 3 interviews and it's only the first week of September

Good job! Did they ever send a secondary? when is your/ the interview dates?

Hello! Yes they included several things to do in the email. No 'essay-based' secondaries, just some paperwork. They offered me three dates and I chose to visit September 16th! Thanks 🙂

Do you have publications or have done research? Just curious
I do not have publications, I did research for my first 1.5 years in college. For one year I did 10-15 hours of research a week at Moffitt Cancer Center, and for half a year I did grunt work at an integrative biology laboratory for 5 hours a week.

How is this your first interview with those godlike stats lol

Thanks man! Appreciate that. 🙂
My friend got accepted at a polish dental school and he started 2 weeks ago his interview was somewhere in New York, financial aid pays for it its a 5 years program but if you already have your bachelor it will be 4 years for you and the tuition is about 20k per year and after you are done you come back to US and as an international dentist should take some tests and then you can practice in here, and have way less student loans

My reaction in September when I see all these posts of people on their 9-10th interview.

My understanding is that foreign dentists have to go to a US training program for 2 years before they can practice in the US, all of which are extremely competitive since they are competing with foreign dentists from all over the world, making that path about 6 years total to becoming a US dentist, if you can compete to get in the limited slots in the first place. Then you have to pay for those two extra years, about the same as the cost of attending dental school regularly. Now I could be wrong, but that may save a tiny bit of money, but then you have the hardship of trying to get back into US dental school in an ultra-competitive environment and you waste at the very least 2 more years of your life doing it. Not worth it, in my opinion. May as well just go to a US dental school in the first place.

I know of someone who just married a foreign practicing dentist. She's a US citizen. He isn't. But in his country, he has done well and was a professor at the dental school. He just moved here within this year and I believe getting ready to do the 2 years as you already stated. Everything you said is true. They have to do additional training. As far as competitiveness, I'm sure it is. But all in all, he just came into the country and got in while some of us have been applying for years as a citizen so take that for what you will.

Well you don't know if that GPA is out of 4.00 or 5.00 as so many on here post 4.33 and the like. Regardless, that DAT is crazy. Must mean he/she had almost zero wrong answers. Maybe like 1-2 per section.

If they're listing their GPA from AADSAS, it's based off of a 4.0 scale, not 5. 4.33 exists for A+'s, but it's still out of 4.0.

So the burning question on everyones' mind would be if they take that 4.33/5.00 and make it a 3.46/4.00 or they just scale it down to 4.00. I imagine they just scale it down to 4.00 which sucks for those that attend schools that don't do above 4.00.

They don't, they consider it as 4.33/4.0. Essentially a bonus, like getting 105% on an exam or something.

In most cases (as it is with mine), the schools don't go above 4.0. A+'s are still considered 4.0's at the school, but in a different "level". But AADSAS has decided to count A+'s as 4.33's to distinguish them.

Not yet! I applied to all SEC schools as well, but I will say that I was accepted to Ole Miss a couple of years ago. I remember my invite came the the last week of August and the interview was the following week on Sept 4th, which was a thursday! Just for reference

They only do interviews on weekdays. Weekends are for football in the SEC.😉

So then kind of like a built-in inflation system that some schools offer. Whereas many folks who get an A- for a 90-94% (3.7 GPA) or a 95%-100% (4.00), they would get a 4.00 or 4.33 or even higher. Then they just get scaled down to 4.00 even. Very smart on whoever implemented that system in their school if you ask me.

Big difference in a game where .01's matter.

So you declined the acceptance and now back at it again?

Yes! Great school and opportunity, but unfortunately my mom passed away a couple of months prior to my acceptance. So, it was just bad timing. Obviously a huge decision, but it was the best decision for me mentally. Once I graduated from Ole Miss, I moved to Dallas, where my sister lives, worked as a treatment coordinator at a pediatric dental office and am now getting my masters in biomedical sciences! Back at it

Sorry for your loss. School will always be there and Uncle Sam will always be there to put you into debt. I'm glad you took the time off. You'll definitely get back in!

Thank you very much. I agree, I think it definitely helped to take a year off school and remind me why I want to be there. Good luck to you! Will keep y'all updated on any news from SEC schools (and Texas if anyone applied there)!
