I just called to check on my app! UoP is the only school that would make me turn down Roseman... still under review :-/
When you call school regarding you app, what do you say? I would love to call one school, but not even a clue how to address my interest in them

I literally say, 'hi! I was just calling to check on my application!'

Most times they say 'still under review, please check AADSAS' but I've been consistent so my conversation starts with, 'hey, it's Jennie! How were your holidays!?!'

Sometimes I say, 'hi! It's Jennie, I just wanted to let you know my grades and trans riot were sent to AADSAS and I wanted to make sure you got my Update

Start a conversation, not just a 'let me in!' Scenario

Declined Maryland, Midwestern Il, and New England this week. Hopefully someone gets it here!

Accepted to Rutgers on Dec 1. Because I graduated, I’ve been in Korea since last week. And the interview invitation from Stony Brook today!!! If you were in my shoes, would you go for the interview? I would probably stay for 3 days and go back to Korea.

If you're applying out-of-state/international, it's hard to get accepted. But the fact that they invited you, I think you have a very good chance. But if you're satisfied with Rutgers, then don't waste thousands of dollars to fly from SK to NYC and back.

If money is not an issue, then go. Stony interview was very chill. There were only 4 people being interviewed on that day, so they really get to know you. Faculty, staff and students were all very nice and personable. I went there to practice my "interview skills", with no expectation of being accepted, so I was 100% being me, and they accepted me!

I remember one interviewer asking me "So what else do you do besides art?", my answer "Well, I also watch TV."
There were many times when I thought I had said the wrong thing (instead of something they want to hear), but turns out honesty is the way to go.

How did you not get an interview with those stats?

Not really sure. It’s weird. The cycle has worked out this way for me:
UPenn: accepted with scholarship
ECU: accepted
DCG: accepted off waitlist
VCU: interviewed haven’t heard
Columbia: interviewed haven’t heard
UNC: interviewed haven’t heard
MUSC: no interview
Kentucky: rejected no interview

I have quite the variety. I think the cycle has a bit of randomness to it.

This cycle is so random! I got rejected from one of my safety schools the other day. So strange.

Interview #13

USC
Was notified a few days ago. Not sure if I'm going to go. Can anyone speak on the pros and cons from their time there? I was admitted to other schools, but I do like the sounds of attending school in California. I'm aware of the cost..but I'm applying for the HPSP, so that is the only way I'd actually go to that school.

The only con you need to know: estimated cost of attendance $478,997..

If you have cheaper options, go to them..

I said I was aware of the cost lol. The HPSP will (hopefully) cover the cost everything. Anything else haha?

Some recent updates!!

Acceptance #1: LECOM (1/2)
Acceptance #2: Louisville (1/2; off the waitlist)

Rejection #1: Georgia (w/o interview)
Rejection #2: Pittsburgh (w/o interview)

I am so excited about my 2 acceptances!! I can't believe I'm going to dental school and becoming a dentist! This is so exciting!! I'm having a hard time narrowing down my options, though, as I'm a FL resident and cost/location are pretty big factors. Hopefully I can come to a decision soon! Still on 2 wait lists at UF and Nova also! Declined my Marquette and VCU interviews earlier this month.

Interview #7: University of Louisville

At what point do you start to worry if you haven’t heard back? I’ve interviewed at 2 schools (Colordo, UW) and I have an interview coming up at USC. I’ve heard of some people being waitlisted at at least UW but I haven’t heard that either. Should I start to worry? And does it ever help to get in touch with schools?

I wouldn't worry yet. Maybe start to worry a little in March? It seems way too early still. People are still interviewing and placing deposits at multiple schools so spots will start to open up when others make their final decisions. (This is all speculative and just my perspective obviously).
Also, I interviewed at UW in November and hadn't heard anything from them at all and I wasn't waitlisted or anything and then out of the blue last Thursday I got a call that I was accepted. So I have no idea what their process is because they are clearly still accepting people who they haven't waitlisted.
I also interviewed at Colorado and haven't heard anything either!
Stay positive and good luck at your next interview!

Worry not. You will get in :horns:

Interviewed at Mercy, MWU-AZ, UK, UL.
Accepted at MWU-AZ and UL.
Might interview at Maryland!

Will decide between UL and maryland!

I mentioned my stats earlier but 9 of my 11 years of healthcare experience has been as a nurse in cardiology, intensive care, and ER. I have hundreds of hours of shadowing and hundreds of volunteer hours (not to mention my full-time job of taking care of people for over 1,500 hours per year. I’m waitlisted at my state school and two public out of state schools and waiting to hear back from 5 other schools. I have a wife and child so I can’t take a $12/hr job as a dental assistant at an office to get dental experience and with 195 hours of college credit, I don’t want to spend a ton of money on a post-bac course of study just to say I’ve taken classes really recently. I’ve been in college since 2004 basically. So what else can I do to get off the waitlist and get an acceptance?
You ever thought about CRNA?

You ever thought about CRNA?
Absolutely, that was my original plan. But I worked 3 years in an ICU and for an 18 month period I was on call 26 times and I got called in 23 of those times, often right at the beginning of my call shift so I was often working 60 hours per week. You are on call A LOT as a CRNA. The hospital often times does not offer a good setting for a good work-life balance. Even when you’re at home, you have to have in mind “will the hospital need me?” I was tired of that. I realize if you own your own practice then it will be on your mind too bc a business owner has to make sure he is managing the business well or it fails. But, the business is YOURS. In a sense the hospital owns you. Also, the way healthcare is moving is a direction that has more questions than answers. It’s very volatile with a lot of turmoil and I don’t want to actively pursue a career path full of uncertainty. There are very good gigs for CRNA’s out there, but not available to newer graduates. You have to put in years to reap those benefits. You put in 4 years for dental school, you get to work with your hands, and if you don’t do something perfectly, you can correct it for the patient. If you screw up in the OR and administer a sedative a patient has a poor reaction too and it comes out you should’ve known it but the patient forgot to tell you they had a bad reaction to sedation in 1984, then you can get sued, fired, have your license censured, etc. dentistry will provide a better lifestyle for my family and I, allows me to be creative, and gives me an opportunity to have something that provides service that I can call my own. Long answer to a short question but yes, I have definitely thought about my decision to pursue dentistry.
