Hey guys! Just wanted to say congratulations to everyone who's been accepted!! For those of you that are re-applicants,
I wanted to ask what you did different between the first time you applied to the next time around (whether you did a post-bacc, master's, etc) and ask for some advice. I'll be graduating soon in May 2018 and I want to strengthen my application and for when I apply June 2019.
I was considering doing a post-bacc by either taking 20 credits as a non-degree seeking student at my school ($5,000) OR a 20 credit graduate certificate program offered by the medical school at my university ($21,000😱)
The classes I wanted to take as a non degree seeking include the same course material in the certificate program. However, the main difference being the courses in the certificate program have a medicinal emphasis and most likely more rigorous since it is associated with medical school.
Is it worth the price?
From looking at your stats, I would honestly say your GPA is fine--I was able to get four interviews and one acceptance with around the same GPA as you, but i think you need to focus on retaking your DAT, you have to have at least 20AA and at least a 17 in each section, any lower than that is pushing it, especially when you already have a low GPA. If you retake your DAT and apply broadly (10-15 schools) I am confident you will get interviews! I don't think you need to take more courses, although good grades in upper level bio courses are definitely looked favorably upon

Interview #14 at UPenn.

notified by email

I definitely did not expect to get this many interviews and acceptances, can't wait to see their beautiful campus... fingers crossed all goes well and I can get into my dream school!

Declined my interview at USC.
Hope it goes to one of you deserving people out there!

(Update)
Accepted to Umich and Tufts
Declined interviews at NYU and USC
Rejected by Penn, Marquette, UDM
Silence from 7 schools

I'll decline any additional interviews that I receive, though. I've been set on Umich since Dec. 1 at 9:03 A.M. when I got that call! Besides, my niece sent me a picture of her in a "Michigan Niece" t-shirt the other day. Can't turn back now lol!

I had to try so hard not to flip out on the call. I also think it helped that it took a little while to set in that it kept me from screaming on the phone

My first acceptance was through email so I went crazy! Although, when UNC called, at one point, the person I spoke to said, “Are you ok?” Haha good times!

Acceptance #1 at NYU. I am not the normal applicant, I have been applying to dental schools for the past 6 years! Yes 6 years lol I had the interview in October and was told I need to take the DATs over again. I scored a 21AA and just heard back from my interviewer by phone call that I am accepted! This is truly a dream come true!

Congratulations! You are my hero! I applied three times and I got in this cycle and was so relieved. I can only imagine how you feel right now! You deserve it, now go celebrate!

Good job! What you did was probably something many people would've given up on after a few tries. You have some determination man, and that will make you amazing in dental school.

Still haven’t heard back from around 10 schools.... had a few interviews but the other 10.. SILENT

Interviewed in late October, early November, and two interviews in February. Finally heard back from the school I interviewed at first on 10/23 with an acceptance two days ago. Keep up hope and keep communicating with schools to show your interest.

How do you show continued interest? Email?

Email and/or call. I was good about calling and asking about my app status, even if you know it hasn't changed some schools tend to write notes saying you called and the committee can see that.

It took me 3 years

Congrats! So strange that you got accepted at UMICH about not UDM? What were your stats if you don’t mind me asking?

Thanks! It might initially seem odd, but just because I was accepted at a great program (UM) doesn't mean I'm more qualified than anyone else for admission at any other program. I apparently fit the bill for UM in terms of what they were looking for. This is fortunate, because UM is my home program and is exactly where I want to be!

I keep my stats off the board for some level of anonymity. DAT was 21/21/23. If you have other Q's, PM me.

Why would you choose UCLA? I heard it isn't an enjoyable program (see below).

Yo, its H/P/F which does make a difference depending on where you wish to specialize. No ranking though, which is good or bad depending on your personal views regarding that. As a graduate from UCLA I can certainly say it sucked but there is some value from being treated like garbage for years in terms of how it can make future crappy situations seem not so bad because it may not equate to that of the UCLA experience if one were so fortunate to experience themselves.

Now, after having been to med school, I can see how different and better students are treated at a med school compared to a dental school. After my first week at med school I was like Holy **** is this how a health profession school is supposed to be like!? Talk about med students whining and being babied man, what a joke that is. Funny thing is they don't know nor can understand how good they actually have it.

Hi everyone, I have applied for advanced standing program and waiting for interview call. when can I expect a call if at all my application was selected. I have cleared NBDE exams And TOEFL(95) with masters degree in my country. I have applied for BU, COLORADO, VCU, UW, and TEMPLE. Till what time I can wait for a call and plan for next cycle. Need some suggestions.
Thank you.

If it’s anything like regular admissions and you haven’t heard anything back yet then you most likely didn’t get in. Post in the international forum though they’re more likely to know!

Very cheap compared to all other options (also considering I can stay at home and get to campus within 15 minutes, traffic included). Plus I have close ties to many faculty/current students/alumni. It was a tough choice even with all these thing going for UCLA though.

Offer of acceptance #1 at LECOM!!!!! :soexcited:
SGPA 3.5 OGPA 3.664
DAT 19TS/19AA/19PAT/21RC/19QR

I was so shocked when I read the email and cried with my parents for a while.
It was very special because I've never seen my dad crying before...!
Didn't enjoy the waiting game but I kept having faith in myself.
Everything is possible, always keep the positivity 🙂
