Accepted: Penn, Marquette, Columbia, UoP, UCSF
Rejected: stony brook, Harvard, uconn

Attending: UNC

This was a tough choice, but it comes down to money and where you want to practice. Also, don’t kick your feet around if you know you won’t be attending a school because there are people desperately waiting for a seat to open up.

Good luck everyone!
Did you interview at Harvard? I did and never heard back from them.

When did Stony Brook reply to you? I interviewed there on the first day, but they are giving me the silent traetment.

And big congrats to you!!!! Those acceptances are impressive
I interviewed fairly early at Stony as well and have heard nothing. From what I've heard, interviewing and not hearing back on dec 1st at stony is not a bad sign at all. as hard as it is, we just wait

@Likkriue interviewed in september and was accepted in january so not hearing back immediately is okay

wow I am so impressed that the deposit at Penn is only $500.

However, do you guys feel that the price of the school is worth all the fuss about it?

I got invite for an interview at Maryland today (interview for February). Like wtf? Why is it so far off? I've been accepted elsewhere already and my main school is asking for a deposit by the end of the month. How are students supposed to interview and make decisions in time...

I did get accepted to my main, but its still bull****. I'd like to explore other dent schools out of intellectual curiosity.

Bull****.

This is me all day, every day

"Boys" being "schools"

Is it common for schools to contact letters of rec? I have been informed of this happening to me recently but haven't heard anything from the school. Starting to think the letter of rec had a red flag :/ Don't seem to think they would waste time doing this with thousands of applicants

I hope that some non-trad (mid 30s), mom pre-dents, with not so stellar undergrad gpa applicants can find some kind of hope with my acceptances!

This is awesome and gives me so much hope because I'm basically exactly the person you're describing! Still waiting to hear back from MN. Good for you!!

Which school? And yes, this happens more often than people might think.

You put the deposit down and if you want the other school more you go to the other interview. Be thankful that you were offered an interview since many others would do anything to be in that spot.

Apparently it's people with "intellectual curiosity" that schools make money off of via lost deposits...

I haven't heard back from penn, harvard, columbia yet. Congrats on those amazing acceptances though!

I was actually talking about this today. Temple's deposit is $2000 (I have absolutely no idea why). I also read that penn's deposit is $500.

I personally wouldn't attend the school (and I am a philadelphian) because it's so god damn expensive. That's just me. Some people don't mind the debt, but I do. I feel that although Temple is expensive, it is a lot more reasonable than penn. If you don't mind the debt, then go for it! If you really feel an attachment to the school and don't ind the debt, then it is definitely the right place for you.

You put the deposit down and if you want the other school more you go to the other interview. Be thankful that you were offered an interview since many others would do anything to be in that spot.
I'm not fortunate enough to put down a $2000 deposit and go explore dental schools. If you are, good for you then.

Calling tomorrow and declining the interview offer. Hopefully someone more interested in the school can get the seat.

Should I be concerned.....

I applied to UPenn, Columbia, Maryland, Colorado, NOVA & Tufts. Application was sent mid July but DAT score was approved end of September (so I guess that when they started reviewing)
My bachelors was taken in the UK (but I’m a US permanent resident however) I completed all pre-reqs in US GPA 3.94. My DAT AA24 and 26TS. I checked with these schools before applying that they do accept foreign bachelors (in Biomedical Science).
I’ve done research at a top research institute in the UK.
Anyways, I have only heard back from NOVA and Colorado, and absolutely nothing from the other schools (although I did compete the Maryland secondary a while ago).
Should I be concerned? I’m feeling very disappointed Right now 🙁 🙁

well, did you receive an acceptance to NOVA or colorado?

okay well congrats on those interview invites! Regarding the other schools, if you havent been rejected yet, then assume that you may receive an interview after jan 1st.

Non-trad Student, 31 y/o M who retook the DAT at the end of September after turning in my app in July. Have 11 years of healthcare experience, 3.3/3.4 SciGpa/OGpa, a 19AA/19TS. I applied to 8 schools and received 3 interviews prior to Dec 1 and have no change in my application status on the other 5. Waitlisted at all 3 schools I interviewed at. Where do I go from here? I have 195 hours of credit on my transcript so I don’t want to have to pay more money for coursework. All three interviews went great and excellent letters of recommendation. What else can I do at this point besides wait?

Stay positive!! Those three wait lists might turn into acceptances later on in the cycle. On the off chance that you don’t get accepted, id say retake the DAT and aim for 21+. Good luck!!

I was accepted today around 4 oclock EST, I assume they are slowly accepting more students

No, I just got my acceptance yesterday

Congrats both!! This restores my hope because I thought they were done for a while after 12/1! Do you guys have an idea of how long are they going to keep calling/when do I find out if I am instead rejected/waitlisted?

I have about the same GPA as you and I did not get in my first year. I did get a 20 AA and have been working as a dental assistant the last two years. I got accepted this year! My advice would be to definitely retake the DAT. After talking to one of the admissions people at my home state school, he said since my GPA was below most averages, I need to do really well on the DAT (I got a 17AA the first time). I would also try to get some dental experience (I know you said healthcare, not sure if you did dental). I really think what helped me get in this year was being a dental assistant the last year and a half.

I have been watching this thread throughout the whole application cycle and was freaking out because my stats did not even compare to everyone posting on here:
DAT: 19TS, 20AA
GPA: 3.36oGPA and 3.12sGPA

I received interview invites from 6 of the 7 schools that I applied to (Buffalo, NYU, BU, MUSC, Touro, and UNE), 4 acceptances on December 1st (Buffalo, BU, Touro, and UNE), and 1 waitlist (NYU). I have a ton of ECs, research experience, and volunteer hours. I just want to give everyone that is reading this with lower stats like mine hope and I am proof that it is not all about the numbers!!!

Edit: I am a NY resident

I am the same age (female) and have similar stats, 8 years of dental assistant experience and 2 as a health educator. I applied late July, and app was complete mid-Oct after DAT. I applied to my 3 instate schools and have had 1 post-Dec interview so far. Just give it time, you may have to wait long, but may turn into an acceptance. Good luck!!!

If I reapply, do I need another new letters of recc or can I still use the one from this application cycle?

You could use the same ones but you have to get your recommenders to resend them since I don’t think aadsas saves them, and if you apply to the same schools, it might be better to get someone new if you can

Thank you! the only problem is that I'm in my gap year, so I don't know any recent science professors.

I applied last year and this year. I used the same two teachers as last year and just updated them on what I had been doing the last year so they could make changes to their letters. I got in this year. I don’t think it’s an issue to use the same people!

Thats amazing, congrats. WHere are you choosing to go?

Thank you! It is between Boston and Buffalo, but I think the no brainer choice would be Buffalo...
Fully depends on lifestyle vs debt. If you want to lock urself up and just study for 4 years and save money than deff buffalo, if you enjoy a better living ...situation bu

Short term sacrifices for long term benefits. If she is taking out loans and her parents aren't rooting the bill, the extra 200k could screw her plans for the 10 years after dental school.

Debt is absolutely linked to lifestyle.

sGPA, oGPA: 3.47, 3.63
DAT: 19 TS. 21 PAT. 16 QR. 18AA
Residency: WV

Pretty average academic stats, but incredible life experiences, employments, shadowing, and killed my interview. Only applied to WVU and received my acceptance on Dec 1st. Content.

I mentioned my stats earlier but 9 of my 11 years of healthcare experience has been as a nurse in cardiology, intensive care, and ER. I have hundreds of hours of shadowing and hundreds of volunteer hours (not to mention my full-time job of taking care of people for over 1,500 hours per year. I’m waitlisted at my state school and two public out of state schools and waiting to hear back from 5 other schools. I have a wife and child so I can’t take a $12/hr job as a dental assistant at an office to get dental experience and with 195 hours of college credit, I don’t want to spend a ton of money on a post-bac course of study just to say I’ve taken classes really recently. I’ve been in college since 2004 basically. So what else can I do to get off the waitlist and get an acceptance?

Retake the DAT then lol

I’ve taken it 3 times

You’re asking for advise but you’ve already told us everything you don’t want to do. You don’t want to take more classes, you don’t want to take a pay cut to get experience as a dental assistant, and you don’t want to retake the DAT again. I don’t blame you for not wanting to do those things, I wouldn’t want to do them either, but some times schools what to see how badly you want something. Prove to them you’re willing to sacrifice to be a dentist.
