Sounds very good cv to me. some programs might think though you are heavily involved in oncology stuff so may be a great fit for hem/onc but I am sure you put it in perspective on your ps

It depends on your application, different programs to use different filters they don't have time to sit down and go through 800 applications one by one by hand, so they will filter anything they want easiest to use can be steps, they could set number of scholarly entries to 3 for example or whatever they want, they could filter out type of graduates such as USMD. Region matters if there is a program within a 500-mile radius that you were interested in they will take you seriously your faculty know personally other faculty that helps the most but even if they did not cold calls on your behalf stepping up the back are useful, and that is that utility of the forums here is timing-wise you know that XY and Z program send out invitations 2 weeks ago and you are not in their first batch of interviews and that it is getting close to time to proceed with reaching out that way when they move down their list to fill in cancellations you may get included on the radar, some places have not sent out and still will not send out for another couple weeks. Strong CV pretty good chances. The only issue I am not sure you are aware of is that not all of those programs sponsors J1 visa.
I say this because there was a list of programs at the last ACG meeting going around that indicated only 67 programs sponsor visa.

So just make sure about this. Beside visa, and low step scores, very impressive research.

I’m pretty sure each of them sponsor J1. I don’t know about ACG list but this is from FREIDA and official programs’ websites.

How many IV till now. Any research track ?
 
Did you apply to hem/oncology as well? Could give you a another avenue. Saying it because with your strong research experience if you are still at zero iv it may mean the path is fraught with hurdles and hemonc would ensure double shot in case you have some interest in it

T32 is possible. The program can divert more T32 funding to citizens and GC holders, free up their "regular" money to hire you in the reserach track. It all depends on whether the program wants you or not. If yes, they can always find a way.

I know many amazing GI researchers. These people have several first author original publications in high-impact journals. In GI, that would be Gastro, Gut, Hepatology, J Hepatology, AJG, CGH, IBD, GIE, APT, DDS (this list is definitely short). If you're doing basic research that is more difficult to assess and you'll need strong letter from your mentor.

You have very impressive research records. At your level, programs will not look at the number of publication/abstract. They expect you be a productive PI, and that is measured only (somethimes sadly) by the quality and quantity of your first author original publications. Case reports do not count. Meta-analysis does not count unless it's JAMA or BMJ. Oral presentations are important but at your level programs are looking for something like young investigator awards from AASLD, DDW, or ACG. I'm convinced that you will get many invites pretty soon, but if it's not the case probably try working on manuscripts?

UVA has given out all of their interviews already and all have been accepted so they do not have any more spots as of now (however some people may cancel their interviews as more offers come in, at which point they may offer openings to some).

Has anybody heard anything from Wash U?

When I applied I cancelled my UVA interview so people do end up cancelling, be patient and send them an email in a week or two to see if they have any more available spots for interviews or it will come.

I have an interview at UVA, I just emailed them to try to change the date and they gave me that response. I’m on a waitlist to see if I can get one of the other dates if someone cancels.

I'd say UVA==Duke== Vandy == UNC ==UTSW > UAB >> Wake = BCM >Cinci=emory ..though best opinion will be from shishimd

So just wait. They know people will cancel (based on programs past history from inviting applicants).
 
I don’t have those invites, hoping for them, and wanted those programs compared and to get some thoughts on them. Sorry for any confusion.

There's been a lot of posting about "ranking" of programs, and I honestly wouldn't get too caught up in that (Im a first year GI fellow, went through this whole business last year). Ranking is very subjective and you will hear a lot of different opinions, just keep in mind that there are so many excellent programs out there, and you wont go wrong (whoever posted about comparing Vanderbilt, UAB, UTSW, UNC, Duke, Emory etc.............I mean come on, I think you are going to be ok). The reason there isn't a definitive ranking of GI fellowships is because its way too subjective, and each program has their pros and cons. Just find the program that fits YOUR NEEDS the best, whether that is based off subspecialty interest, career goals (academic vs. private), research opportunities or mentors, location of the program, or simply the general environment/attitude of the program (you will find that this can differ quite a bit). Don't get caught up in rankings, because at the end of the day its just somebody's opinion.

Most US-MDs pretty much match with 6-8 interviews... Only IMGs (particularly on Visa) have a non trivial probability of not matching with >10 invites...even then its uncommon ..
 
True that. Last 7 years never seen any USMD with 8 that didn’t match.
But I have seen IMGs (needing visa) with 19 IV who did not match. I have also seen IMGs (not needing visa) with 3 or 4 IVs that did match.
But never have I met or known a USMD with 8 IV and more who didn’t match (not saying there are not out there)

Ranking UAB to low. I agree with Baylor being first but not UAB being ranked so low (in my opinion UAB is a very strong program).
Vandy, Emory, Duke are good programs but UAB is much stronger in terms with my views. But ultimately is your choice and you have to decide. That’s why is called the match.
