When is the big day, stud?

6/22!

Still haven't taken a practice test... I'm feeling good about my UW progress and worried that doing poorly on an NBME would make me sad and deflate my enthusiasm for studying. Gonna have to start at some point though... Definitely want to do UWSA1+2, free 120... probably nbme 18 I guess given it's supposed to be so predictive?

Start with UW1. I think it's actually more predictive if you take it at the start rather than close to the test.

I go 6/17. I plan to only do Free 120, UWSA1+2, and MAYBE 24 or whichever it is where there are repeats. I will not push my exam back and I will not give NBME my money if I don't have to. Could be a mistake but I doubt it.

There is nothing more demoralizing than doing your UW incorrects and missing questions again for the second time.

Happened to me today, and I realized I chose the EXACT same wrong answer. Made me a little proud. I may not be smart, but I stand my ground and double down!

23 wasn't all that useful in my opinion. Especially if its nothing like the real deal. That's the only reason I even took it in the first place

took NBME 23 today and I retract my previous statement aboiut 20 being the most absurd. This shi* right here is the most rediculous practice test I have ever taken, i got beef with whoever decided to take the most obscure batch of questions and throw them all onto the same exam together.

Ended up with a 252, which I'm quite happy with. I was sure I was gonna be in the double digits the whole time. The excitement from getting a score im happy with is not enough to overcome the pure anger that I built up from doing this exam.

Anyone else do better on the free 120 than the UW2 or is just me lmao 😆

Also: how do people review their answers for the free 120? I had it on timer and didn't check my answers. Is there an explanation if you click "show correct answers" or is there a thread somewhere with the answers?

Hey all, could use a little advise.

Test date 6/24. Trying to plan the rest of dedicated as it pertains to Qs & NBMEs. So far:

NBME 13: 228 (4.5 months out)
NBME 16: 234 (9 weeks out)
NBME 23: 244 (5 weeks out)
UW1: 262 (4 weeks out)
UW: 81% correct (50% complete)

With 3.5 weeks remaining, which NBMEs should I do? I'm planning to do 18 & UW2 for sure. Should I try to fit all of them in or not worry about it? I'm also getting a little nervous about being able to finish UW, esp if trying to fit in all NBMEs. I regret not starting UW before dedicated, but oh well. Also, should I be concerned that I only had a 10 point increase in 4 weeks?

Although, considering that 23 felt like the hardest and most ridiculous test I've ever taken, and I nearly had a panic attack thinking I was failing it the whole time, I was pretty happy to see 240+ (but to echo one of the above posters, even getting a score I was happy with was not quite enough to overcome the panic/anger that built up during that exam, lol)

I think you would get more utility of finishing UWorld >>> taking more NBMEs.. only take the NBMEs if you have the time to... You'll be fine with 18, UW2 and free 120 though

I went through it again with the "show correct answers" turned on and cross referenced it with this, not in depth explanations but helpful nonetheless

Thanks for your reply. I'm definitely going to prioritize UW no matter what. So you think I shouldn't even bother with 20-22 or 24 at all? I definitely wouldn't mind saving the $$ or time.

Way to go!

I hit my lowpoint today. Got incredibly many questions "stupidly" wrong and big frustration. Bought the Uworld biostats set and its a teenie bit helpful but mostly a rip off. Feeling pretty low for tuesday but I put my trust in the validity of practice scores. Saturday I am going to a wedding to take the day off, Monday I am summoned to testify in court (never ever report that you witnessed a crime! It comes back to bite you!). Let's see what the free 120 bring tomorrow. I read they do not give you a score afterwards, you have to calculate it yourself?

you got this bro, trust your scores. We all have bad days/set every now and then, just gotta trust the process. You got this!!! Just take the free 120 and rest up the mind a bit this weekend. Not sure about the free 120 though hoping some people that have taken it chime in as im confused as to how it even works

When I took the free 120, I did it at the library where I study, just like all my practice exams. If you click the start exam all blocks you go through the three blocks then it gives you a % correct. Then you have to go back through the questions one by one and click show answers to see which ones you missed based off memory. kinda sucks, but I had two questions on my exam from it so definitely recommend.

It's okay, it happens to everyone. Don't let it break your stride
Just keep putting in that work and doing your reviews everything will pay off.
Free 120 gives you a percentage for each block not a score. And if you scroll up you'll see someone replied to me with a link for when you finish and just want a tiny explanation on the answers

Wait so 23 is a notoriously rough nbme? It’s the only one I’ve taken. I thought it was supposed to be nice compared to the others so that’s why I took it. I’m scared to take another.

Of the new ones I honestly thought 20 was the roughest. I thought 23 was pretty fair overall, but maybe that's just because the curve is generous. Although I didn't feel like it was as vague as 24 was

Yeah I thought 23 was very fair and made you think. I scored the exact same on 23 and 18

hey guys, hope to get your perspectives...exam in 3 weeks (6/21), was hoping to hit 260, but not sure what I can do to reach that goal with the little time I have. I feel like I've hit a plateau =/

here are my scores so far:
Prededicated when I still had classes and finals:
NBME 13- 217 (took it about 1.5 months ago)

Dedicated (started 2.5 weeks ago):
NBME 16- 219
NBME 20- 238
NBME 17- 232
NBME 22- 238
Still planning on taking the two UWSA, NBME 18, free 120 and if I can squeeze in any other of the new ones in the upcoming weeks.

I have about 580 Uworld questions left and sitting at 73% correct 1st pass. I'm doing UFAP, and I'm not an Anki person, but I feel like I sadly won't be able to improve by 20 points to hit my goal score. Do you guys think it's possible? I also feel like every time I review something, some other piece of information just picks itself up and ghosts me forever. Ugh any insight would be so dope especially since all the people I'm in contact with are hitting 250s on their practice test leaving me to feel like an over-baked dried potato.

still having nightmares or dreams about step a week later. Has anyone heard that the scores were released early for the early may group instead of the july 10th date as i heard a rumor about that today.
Come back here occasionally to see who took the test recently. Dude. If only you knew how poorly i thought i did. I got 3 hours of sleep, was so anxious i tried canceling the test the morning of, had to take a break every section to pee from the fear, and after the exam caught myself making like 5 very stupid mistakes and 10 more incorrects. Even after all that, i still scored at my nbme average and 10 points higher than UWSA2. Similar story for CK. You will likely and hopefully be fine. If you need someone to complain to, PM me. The best advice i can give you, as i ruined 5 weeks of my own dreading my score report, is to just trust your prep and practice assessments. Not only is there nothing you can do about it now, but also it is very likely that you arent the only person who thought your question set was hard af. You also werent the only person to get no sleep, etc etc. youll be fine man. Congrats on finishing.

I am having a really bad day today. My computer hard drive crashed and I have lost all of my UW notes on incorrect questions!!!
Exam is on 6/22 and It can take up to 2 weeks to retrieve data and it can cost up to $1300. I am really frustrated.

Who is taking 2 weeks and charging you $1300?

What do you mean by "hard drive crashed"?

Do you have a mac laptop and you brought it to the Apple store and that's what they told you?

It is a 6 year old Mac Book Air. Apple checked it out but could not fix it. They told me to take it to Ontrack. A local data retrieval guy said he will do it in one day for $475 but could not fix it because it was an SSD (solid state drive). Finally took it to Ontrack, they will ship it to MInnesota for data retrieval. They said it can cost me up to $1300 and can take 1-2 weeks. At this point they don’t even know if they can retrieve the data.

Do you have any local computer nerd friends you can ask to take a look at it for you, or is it out of your hands now at this point?

That sucks man. Nothing to add to @Gurby ’s advice, just pointing out we are date triplets! I am also 6/22 (although recently I keep getting the itch to push it back 2-3 days lol but nothing’s open so I’ll probably still be with you guys).

Dang. Was kinda hoping it underpredicted a little for a second there. Oh well. Guess it doesn’t change what I’m gonna do anyways.

Gals and guys that whole prediction thing is inherently skewed. All the NBME forms have different foci and the internet med students clearly display a preference on when to do what, meaning the whole analysis and prediction about prediction is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Use the NBMEs as LEARNING tools and (maybe) as progress monitors, even though they have their flaws!!

About to start NBME 21 homies. Decided if I break 230 I will take a celebratory tequila shot. Also decided I'll be taking a tequila shot to drown my sorrows if I don't hit 230.

Alright here we go.

Happy clicking and enjoy your well deserved shot!

I finished everything up today. Not where I wanted to be a a few weeks ago, but I am ready to be done. Exam is on Tuesday.

Amboss: 244
UWSA 1: 262
NBME 18: 238
NBME 21: 242
NBME 22: 232
NBME 23: 238
NBME 20: 250
NBME 24: 244
UWSA 2: 254
Free 120: 85%

ComSAE: 531

UW% 70% on first pass, 89% on second
Amboss%: 65%

Don't feel great overall, and kinda feel stupid not feeling great. But imposter syndrome is very real!

NBME 20 was a nightmare. I don't think they could have made it more confusing if they tried. Got a 217. I have no idea where I stand now. I guess I can take solace in the fact that I improved on my weak areas and everything was pretty much above borderline.

Any insights? These are my scores.

NBME 16 - 215
NBME 21- 234
UW1 - 264
NBME 20 - 217

Was uworld before 18?

yap, they were taken in the order I posted it.

Uworld totally plays in my strengths, as does NBME 20.

Sorry to hear about that NeuroDjent. Keep on grinding. NBME 20 is super heavy on viro and immuno, if you have weakness there it will be quickly exposed! Don't take it to hard. It's a learning tool, not more.

Alright finished the Free 120 with 84%... am a bit grumpy about it because I thought I should have done better but whatever. I'm precipitously close to simply not giving AF. I've noticed my concentration during these practice sets has significantly decreased the last week as I've done so many. Definitely going to take it easy this weekend a bit and only casually review either crammable stuff like pharm, cell signaling or very HY material like the first 3 chapters of Pathoma. A complete summary of my doings:

Real Thing: Tuesday
NBME 16: 230 (3 months out)
NBME 17: 228 (ouch)
UWSA 1: 247 (start of dedicated)
NBME 19: 234
NBME 20: 240
NBME 21: 242
NBME 23: 238
NBME 18: 248
NBME 24: 240
UWSA 2: 249
Free 120: 84%
Reddit Predictor: 247 with SD of 3.7, Range of 239-254 (please let this be accurate lol)

COMSAEs (not that they matter): 525, 575, 620

Did about 65% of Zanki (kinda wish I would have started it from day 1 and done only that for 2 years), Sketchy Pharm/Micro, Pepper Sketchy Pharm anki deck, HY Anatomy Anki deck, FA Rapid Review Anki deck, Bnb for Biochem/Stats/Immuno

Total number of practice questions: 10,200
Final UW %: 76%

At this point I just want a score with which I can competitively apply to the specialty I want as the rest of my app is rounding out nicely. After taking so many practice tests/question sets I can honestly say that luck plays a big roll in this. Probably why the SDs for the real scores are so large. A handful of questions can swing your score almost 10 points in either direction.

Petition to make step 1 a 4 day long 960 question test so we can increase that sample size and lower that standard deviation? who is with me

Pulling for you- you’ll kill it!

idk how it happened but i stopped getting notifications from this thread for the past 2 days or so and that makes me sadder than underperforming on uworld.

12 days out from the real deal. a little apprehensive about how ive structured the tail end of this thing:
planning to do 4 more practice exams (20, 21, 18, uwsa2+120). 1 every other day starting on monday
days in between being = 1 block of uw + review + some incorrects. mostly hammering weaknesses
will take a full rest day the day before the actual test

i wanted to fit in binging all of zanki pharm + sketchy micro + pathoma but am not sure if its possible or even worthwhile.

Man I been getting slapped around by UW today. I always start out the day thinking "wow I'm glad this question pointed out a weakness in my knowledge base!" then inevitably descend into rage as the day goes on.

giphy.gif
just wait until you get a question wrong on something you have already learned once or twice. infuriating

Taking on Monday, the end of the road, "I don't give a flying f*** anymore" feelings are major. Tomorrow's plan is to finish my read of FA (left public health, pharm, and pathology for last), watch the first 3 chapters of pathoma, and maybe lightly read through my anki cards I've built up from UWorld before taking all of Sunday off.

Are you just sitting through Pathoma? Thats like 5 hours right? I try every now and then but its sooo boring...

That's the life... it's all about getting back up in the saddle again!
