USMLE Official 2020 Step 1 Experiences and Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Some people from my class who've been cancelled reached out to faculty and were basically told since Step isn't required, they can schedule for any time and will have to request a day off of rotations. So, doesn't sound like our school will give us any sort of dedicated. Hopefully something different and more official will come out from faculty once they realize how many people are affected.

You know which city? I wonder if its even worth re-scheduling to there
Lynchburg. But I looked again and its all booked up. Supposedly someone found something over by UVA, but idk if they are still around. These spots are going like hotcakes.
I have a theory. I think prometric is "graying out" spots that they are about to cancel, so once they send out one round of cancellations, people cant register in places they are about to cancel. So, your best bet to find a new spot, is to look for places that HAVEN'T been canceled yet, and once those places are canceled, look there the next day or something. Again, this is my crazy tinfoil hat conspiracy theory. That said, I know someone who was supposed to take their test in Lynchburg VA at the end of june get canceled, yet I was able to get a spot there the next day. So who the hell knows.

Well, I'm just assuming I'm cancelled. I haven't gotten any emails but I feel like they just haven't come in. I put my confirmation # in Prometric last night and it came up as confirmed, but then it said it would send me an email within 15 minutes confirming my details. Never got the email.

What date were you scheduled for? My step (june) got canned, but my july comlex still looks safe (for now)

I am scheduled for June 26th for Step and July 1st COMLEX. Haven't gotten an email about anything yet. Just put in my confirmation # for Step on the Prometric cancel/reschedule option, and I have the option to both cancel and reschedule so I'm not sure if that means anything? I know some people were saying that the cancel option disappeared for them, but some people said they still had it even though they got cancelled. The unknown is killing me, I just feel like there's no way neither of my exams gets cancelled. I'm taking it in South Florida so it's not like it's the middle of nowhere either.

If you haven't gotten an e-mail, I think you're safe for now but you can call NBME and NBOME to confirm. They have a master list of people who have been cancelled so far.

On hold with NBME. Tracking my HR with my apple watch has been enlightening during this time.

Edit: Andddd the hold music just stopped playing and the call dropped.

Called again and left a voicemail. Would be surprised if I actually get a call back.

Found a spot on July 30th in North Dakota. I'm going to keep my Aug 4th in philly, but just a heads up in case anyone is desperate to take the exam asap. There's only 3 sites in the state but I think it was at the one farthest North. Its the earliest one I found after looking through PA, NJ, VA, SC, Kansas, ND, and SD. I didn't look at every site in some of those states but most of them so there could be a diamond in the rough that I missed

only thing that scares me from putting UWorld off is what if nbme gives the med schools the green light to administer the test on the date you had scheduled
I had this thought as well, sucks they didn't start discussing this back in March/early April so they could have an answer by now.

I would probably stick with doing UWorld as planned and then do a second pass along with another qbank.

I wonder if MD schools would let DO students take USMLE on their campuses. If they can work this out, it would solve this whole dilemma and people might actually get reasonable dates.

Well that won't happen until after June 30th if it happens, so I wouldn't stress about being surprised by them rushing you through your original test day.

Probably what will most likely happen. I doubt the DO schools will administer a test a lot of them still maintain is unnecessary.

The NBME said yesterday that they hope to have something by June 30th so I'm not sure there's much hope for this for us May and June test takers.

I don't see why not. It might be a bit complicated but Prometric/NBME could just transfer all of our registration info and we could check in just like we would at Prometric.

I wish Prometric would send the "you're not cancelled, here's the new social distancing guidelines" at the same time as the cancellation emails. This is purgatory.

One of my classmates called NBME and said they wouldn't tell her if she was still scheduled or not (LOL). She was told they will continue to send out Step cancellations today and tomorrow and if you don't get one by then, assume you're good to go.

But keep in mind they can still cancel you whenever, people are getting their exams canceled with <1 week.

Probably just gonna do something like half as much Uworld daily as originally planned and then Kaplan or Rx to replace it. Man people with 1.5 year preclinicals who've taken step are just ridiculously lucky at this point

Yeah I think she was referring to being good for the time being. I know people on Reddit scheduled for next week got cancelled today less than a week out and that's just cruel.

Well....that is useless. Not expecting a call back anyways. Thanks for the info.

A local MD school whose students were originally scheduled in March and April just had half the class get axed again today in May and June. I think scores are going to have a huge asterisk next to them this year with everyone being bounced around so much. All of my classmates have had at least one exam cancelled with a few poor souls having both cancelled. I'm currently a June COMLEX and July USMLE while a lot of my classmates are either now both USMLE and COMLEX in August or USMLE in June and COMLEX in August.

Are any of you (DO students) thinking of dropping step 1 or are you just going to power through it? Doing uworld/zanki with kids running around and making a ton of noise these past few weeks has been almost impossible for me. Not sure I can keep it up with no definitive date in sight...

I usually dont respond to people on twitter, but lost my patience with someone asking for test to be made P/F. I told him if u havent studied enough it's not our fault. We want a score, P/F is for slackers!

Hey guys, sorry to interrupt your conversation about exam dates. I just have a quick question.

I don't have that much time to review pharmacology and I was wondering what would be better for that cause, BnB or Sketchy pharm? Sketchy micro was excellent and I have no regrets for doing it, but I feel I would waste a lot of time on sketchy pharm with pharmacotherapy not being tested.

What do you think?

( I will of-course go over FA and Uw )

Sketchy pharm. Also almost never miss pharm questions here.

So you think just save UWorld and keep grinding on Zanki and another Qbank?

Just gonna leave this here. I am definitely on the edge of having a panic attack lol, my HR is through the roof. I'm also kinda bummed we're not all going to be testing together now? I know it's stupid but we've been on this thread for months and I was looking forward to watching everyone kill it. I'm really sorry for everyone who's been cancelled so far. This sucks so much.

I saw that too, but the information does not line up with anyone else. Everything is so consistently inconsistent

I so hope this is the case but I wouldn't trust a word Prometric or the NBME/NBOME says right now. We just had a Dean's hour and they still don't really know anything about what Prometric is planning doing in terms of cancellations/opening up new dates.

Well, even now that I'm in cancelled step purgatory, I still don't want it P/F. That was always a terrible idea

anyone have an opinion on Kaplan vs Amboss while waiting to use UWorld? ive already done rx so I don't want to re-do already crappy questions

Kaplan. I did it before Uworld and felt well-prepared, was able to start Uworld with a solid % correct

I've done probably about 1300 Kaplan Qs and 700-800 Amboss Qs to date. I personally like Amboss more. Kaplan focusses too much on physio in my opinion while amboss is more well-rounded. Overall I think Amboss feels more like Uworld than Kaplan. Amboss also gives you peer comparisons and percentiles. Kaplan just rolled out a bunch of new questions and I feel like they are not quite the same quality as some of their older ones. So overall, Kaplan is a good bank but they are sort of using users as guinea pigs right now to test their new questions. I would go with amboss.

As a guinea pig who has been canceled 3 times since march 31. Prometric have been very professional and sent me email updates at least 2 weeks in advance. The third time a week before scheduled.

I say give me step 1 or give me death!

I personally still want a Step score for what and where I want to apply for residency. I was able to reschedule Step about a month after COMLEX and our school said we'll be able to take the day of the exam off from rotations. I live by myself though and don't have kids so I completely sympathize with you about all this. It all sucks.

There is a new update from USMLE, and prometric have assembled a FAQ of recent inquiries, check on their website. Before doing anything prematurely.
