Thoughts on the ANKING overhaul for step 2?
Seems like too many cards to me, which I'm just over at this point. People have been doing fine using Dorian, so I don't feel the need to do more cards just for the sake of doing them. The AnkiKing deck is pretty much just cheesy Dorian + Zanki step 2 deck + relevant Zanki step 1 cards. I think it's just a bit much, but definitely still a good deck considering it has the same stuff and then some. I'm just over doing 30k cards, making the jump to do Dorian (11k cards) was already a leap for me as I originally planned on doing Zanki step 2 which is like 5k cards lol. TLDR, I think it's just a personal decision between those 2 and both will likely yield similar results at the end of the day.

Reviewing UWSA2 now and feeling much better about it: the stuff I got wrong was mostly stuff I just suck at/had never seen that way before or stupid mistakes like I must've not been reading or something. While I was in the middle of taking it the landscapers started mowing the lawn at a neighbor's house so that was fun lol, let's blame it on that. Either way though I feel like a good chunk of my mistakes are correctable with better focus and now that I've seen some of these questions.

Did you think UWSA2 was harder than an avg UW block? Or easier? heard its genetics and biochem heavy. Genetics is my all time worst subject

I didn't think it was hard except in the focus on genetics and biochem, which are my worst subjects. Honestly it felt like a mix, a lot of the stuff was super easy and like instinctual, and then there were ones I had to think about. Overall I thought it was a fair test except I don't see why the heavy biochem focus was a thing.

Yeah thats weird theres heavy biochem. Thats why i dont understand how its been so predictive if its top heavy in one or two subjects. I could see it underpredicting for anyone who is not as strong in those subjects and overpredicting for people that are baller at those subjects

I think that's likely the case? I have no concrete feelings on it's predictability because when you look at the score release threads, it's all over the place...you have people +/- 5, people +/- 10, etc. I also think it's overall hard to make a prediction because you don't know what kind of form you're going to get on the day of the test and whether it will play to your strengths or not. I am very aware of the things I suck at, and some of them I have just accepted that I will never be good at despite reviewing the material several times. I've made peace with this because I don't care to score 250+, but I can't imagine that the form you get on test day doesn't play a big role too.

I will say, I think I could've hit 250 on UWSA2 had I been more focused. I'm pretty realistic with myself when reviewing and I acknowledge the reasons why I'm getting things wrong, and I've counted a handful at this point (reviewed up to block 3) that I 100%, stone-cold know. Not like, "oh, I kinda know and should've been able to figure this out", but like "this should've came to me right away". So overall I am feeling better after the review because it's not exposing a ton of huge issues.

Does anyone know if you can adjust the brightness of the screen at prometric? I can’t remember if I ever have. My eyes are really sensitive to light, even at the lowest settings. And I’ve been doing UWorld in dark mode....

you should be able to reverse the color ("dark mode") on the real thing. I'd imagine you could adjust screen brightness as well.

LOL we are eye twins. I have everything dark - I use night mode 24/7 on all of my devices to avoid the blue light, have everything on minimal brightness (actually get annoyed that the darkest setting isn’t darker), and I only use dark backgrounds for everything. And my place is pretty dang dark most of the time too because I have a really good set of blackout curtains and only leave one panel open ever.

I got out of the apartment and interacted with friends for a friend’s birthday today, and it’s done wonders for my studying - back to back >80% UWorld blocks. I guess I didn’t realize how caged in I was really feeling until today.

UW Q ID 11777 may have been the sneakiest question I have seen so far. Did not even come close to making the connection for this one

245 (73.1%) on UWSA1. It definitely hit my weak spots, but I'm feeling kinda bummed rn because I know it overpredicts. Still got 1 month left.

I think it overpredicts depending on when you take it. The closer you take it to your exam, the more it overpredicts but I don’t think it’s by 20+ like some people say but more like 10-12ish. I did better on UWSA2 than I did on UWSA1 and actually thought UWSA1 was harder, and a lot of people do around the same on both. Since you still have a month, I think it’s more likely it’s overpredicting right now but that’s about where you could be by the end of dedicated.

Overall it has the same difficulty. I felt like some questions were vague and, not worded like uw has us used to.
Honestly If I do bad on it tmr I'm going to have to consider canceling step. Which would suck after all the work I've put in but I'd rather only have comlex then comlex and a board failure

Do you guys think it's worth knowing the difference between the striped bark scorpion, bald faced hornet, and the diseases they cause? Only bring it up because there's a question about the black recluse spider with all of these "environmental pathogens" as answer choices in amboss. Never have seen these before.

What the??? I've never even heard of these things. I seriously doubt anyone reads these for the USMLE.

Brown recluse pops up randomly in a zanki card, but those seem super low yield. I would just know that scorpion stings can cause acute pancreatitis

DIT clarified that the black widow neurotoxin causes paralysis via increased release of acetylcholine for the MOA, so same effect as tetanus w/ the spastic paralysis but opposite NTs involved.

Just finished UWSA 2 at 249. Predictor’s 245 (235-256).

I am 71% done with DIT (haven’t hit endo, renal, biochem part 2, heme, or cancer yet) and have 1256 unseen UWorld questions. Obviously I’m not going to get either of them done by Tuesday. I think I’m just going to go for it, barring any last minute changes of heart. I feel like I could maybe pull a really astronomically good score if I could finish my resources, but I’ve got to start studying for my class exams in July, and I still don’t know when I’m moving for rotations (might be in July), so I guess I’m just out of time.

I put myself in the situation where I know I’m not going to do my best *again.* I should be happy because that’s a good score but I’m just angry at myself, honestly. I really did have enough time to get everything done. There were just days I did nothing, or studied only an hour or two, because I just didn’t feel like it. It’s like I can’t for the life of me show anyone what I’m actually capable of because I’m too lazy to get my work done, and I’m so over it that it’s ridiculous.

I feel the same way fam. Looking back over the past year there are so many things I should have done different and I kick myself all the time for it. End of the day that I try to remind myself that even though I may not have done everything right, the things I did do and the effort I did put in are still incredible. You should be proud you made it this far. Just because others have done it before or don it better. doesn't mean it isn't impressive. The 10th guy who went to the moon is just as bad a$$ as the first.

Thanks. I needed to hear that. I just see all of my classmates who are super productive and get so much done, and I wish I was more like them.

I’m going to grind out biochem and heme for three days since they’re my worst spots, and see where that takes me I guess!

This is a little bit too verbose, but: If 240's is not even the best you're capable of, you're going to have many, many years of a very accomplished and wonderful life! I remember several years ago I was thinking of taking some online classes (it didn't go well) but was hesitant and a guy said something that really stuck with me. He said, "my buddy was selling weed 10 years ago, he's selling weed today, and he'll be selling weed 10 years from now. And you'll be doing so many great things in 10 years." Compared to him I'll be in like in the upper eschelon, fingers crossed. It's all about the comparison group you pick and whether you want to waste energy keeping up with the Jones's.

A 276 on step 1 is not necessarily going to be more helpful or life-saving to someone else than a 230; alot of your utility will just be from being able to keep waking up everyday and showing up to the hospital or whatever workplace you end up having, listening and diagnostic skills, etc. I hope you pat yourself on the back for completing such an arduous task better than most others!

How much should u take? if you trying to simulate exam situation?

see how you feel taking 5 minute breaks. On exam day you get 6 breaks totaling about an hour, but this includes lunch time and checking out and checking back in. If you can take 5 minute breaks and feel fine, you shouldn’t be too pressed for break time on the real deal. I took three 5 min breaks after my first 3 blocks and as I got tired for blocks 6 and 7 I could afford to take longer breaks to recover. See what works for you as long as you have a solid plan going in.
