Official 2020 Step 2 CK Experiences With Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wanted to write this post to give an update after score release today. AMG and after print permit disappeared, the step 3 eligibility trick did work prior to score release (already passed step 1 and step2CS at that point), but the 1am one did not. My step 1 score was ~200, step2CK today ~230. I thought UW forms were close to style and length of questions, and uworld overall was spot on with many concepts. I used step up2 step2 textbook alongside uworld, and also rewatched some pathoma videos. For the mask you have to wear, my advice is to get a surgical one that you can tie which helps it not be so tight. It was nice to not have to sign out on breaks, and I was able to take the mask off while I ate lunch. Overall the staff were very nice at prometric. I also got cancelled several times but eventually one stuck, and I received a confirmation of appointment email a day before my test which was comforting. These are crazy times, but we can all do it!
UWForm 1: 204 (taken couple months before)
UWform 2: 211 (taken 3 weeks before)
Old Free 120: 80%
Uworld first pass: 57%
Did poorly on NBME's but used them mainly for another style of questions.
Real Step2CK: ~230.
wow awesome improvement!. which chapters did u review from pathoma?

Anyone else think doing 4 blocks a day and reviewing is absolutely exhausting?? I can't get myself to do a single thing after this... Idk if I'l have any time to use a different resource other than UW. This pace has me finishing UW 7 days prior to test date if I take no days off, so hopefully can figure out weak points and do some review by then

Burning out will be far worse than not finishing every single question. I can't be the only one who thinks the last 100-200 questions of each subject are mostly rewording the same concept and thus lose a lot of utility.

I was super done after 3 blocks. Is this your first/only pass of UW? If it’s your second pass, I say ease up. I only got through about 40% of my second pass and thought it was totally fine (I get my score on Wednesday so may eat my words lol). You really don’t wanna burn out. The test is grueling and long.

I wouldn’t force 4 blocks a day!

From my experience, second pass of UWorld is definitely less impactful. It’s more about getting used to blocks of timed 40 question blocks than anything else

Mainly only the organ system chapters. I had some gaps in knowledge and wanted to really master the presentation of different diagnosis/diseases. I didn't watch any pathology mechanism videos, but did find the ones where he explained the different disease presentations to be helpful. It includes some treatment management as well, and surface level "best next step" imaging.

Test on the 17th. Took UWSA2 today and dropped a few points from SA1. I am absolutely fried. Can't seem to get much higher than 240 on these practice tests and I feel like I'm hemorrhaging facts by the minute. Just trying to stay confident and hold on for dear life.

Hang in there! you've done everything you can, Goodluck on your exam!

After reviewing my UWSA2 I am really frustrated by the amount of stupid mistakes I made. Most of the time it was just not reading a part of the vignette or just spacing out while reading (which I do a lot) and not going back to read it again. I guess my mental game wasn’t on point today. I gotta sure that up by test day. Definitely going to do the free 120 tomorrow with a different mindset.

did you think uws2 was harder than uws1? what % gave you 251 on uws2? I'm taking uws2 soon.

@yellowbluegreen
Yea UWSA2 was definitely harder than UWSA1. The stems were longer and more convoluted and the material that was tested was more difficult. It was still fair though. I got 75% on UWSA2.

Just took my last assessment before the real deal in 2 days. This is where I stand. Reddit conversion scores in parentheses.

UWorld 1st pass - 73% correct (254)
UWSA1 (3 weeks out) - 253 (255)
NBME 7 (2 weeks out) - 230 (252)
NBME 8 (1 weeks out) - 241 (255)
UWSA2 (3 days out) - 251 (252)
Free 120 (2 days out) - 84% (253)
UWorld 2nd pass - 50% done at 82% correct

Hoping these conversion are correct and I hit that 250+

Going to do some anki reviews, a few more Uworld blocks, and chill. Looking forward to this being over.

Solid!!! Seem pretty dam consistent based on the conversion score. Goodluck!

How do people feel about the free 120 and how it resembles the actual exam? I'm talking about the free 120 that's online right now, not the "new" one that they put up and quickly took down.

if one's permit were to disappear in preparation for a score on wednesday...when would it do so? i thought sunday but wasn't sure on the timing of WHEN on sunday.

This is my trend so far. Hoping for a 250+. Any last-minute advice or suggestions will be much appreciated! exam in 5 days!!
UWS1-257
NBME7-233
NBME8 243
UWS2-252

Yeah I’m checking in too. Feel like my prep has been all over the place. Hoping for good things on Friday.

NBME8 (4weeks out): 254
UWSA 1 (3 weeks out): 261
UWSA 2 (2 weeks out): 259
NBME7 (1 week out): 248
UW 1st pass: 75%
UW 2nd pass:85% (33% through).

Hoping for 255

Took the beast today. It sucked, straight up. I marked more than half of each block, although I am a very liberal flagger. So many weirdly worded presentations and answer choices. Essentially was able to get things down to 2 and then guess between them. Only 1-2 true gimmies. 5-8 per block I was confident in first time looking at the question. I don’t feel good about it.

Congrats on finally being done! I'm sure you rocked it.

Sorry to hear that.. it seems to be the common feeling walking out so I’m guessing you did a lot better than you thought. Anything in hindsight you would have done different?

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Hopefully the turn around is quick.

I honestly studied pretty damn hard for this test. The only thing I think I could have done different for myself is be a board certified doctor who writes questions for the USMLE. Then maybe I’d know what was going on.

score is being released tomorrow. i'm back on rotations and am terrified to check while i'm on the floors but also don't know how i'm going stop myself and wait until the end of the day.

made the mistake of checking step 1 while on the floors and was wildly disappointed and had a hard time keeping it together. i dont know what to do about tomorrow :cyclops:

I'm checking. I can't imaging focusing with the unknown for many hours after I know they've been released. I plan to step away (with resident permission) and be alone and figure I can manage 5 minutes to do what I gotta do. Text with happiness or disappointment (since I know family is waiting), do some mental gymnastics as needed to get myself in a place where it's OK. And then return...

My running score list. I'm mentally disabled compared to most of you. But i promised i would share all my scores when i took the MCAT back in the day. Maybe itll help someone feel better about themselves.

Anyone who took step 2 ck on Sunday the 7th have their permit disappear? Mine did not. I think I just missed the cut off date for score release tomorrow!

Hey guys! I just wanted to make a quick post to tell anyone that scored low on Step 1 and is worried about Step 2 that YOU CAN DO THIS!
In typical step 1 prep fashion, I studied my butt off for a couple months and was extremely burnt out by the time the test rolled around. I walked out with my jaw on the floor feeling pretty shell shocked and ended up with a 209. I took step 2 at the end of May, about a month after taking my medicine and surgery shelves and using about 3 weeks for continued dedicated study. Again, walked out of the test feeling like I had no clue how I did and ended up with a 243. My big study strategy change? I spent so much time reading through First Aid for Step 1 and then tried to get through as much UWorld as possible. For step 2 I relied completely on UWorld for both my med and surgery shelves which was basically like studying for Step 2 and then continued on with Uworld and no other resources until I took the test. It is possible to go from a low Step 1 to an average or even high Step 2. YALL HAVE GOT THIS!

I got mine back last week. I always found these kinda post reassuring so I figured I would pay it forward.

Step 1: 257
Step 2: 265

Level 1: 770
Level 2: 676

Let me know if you guys have any questions

Congrats on the great score. What were your study strategies/anything you did that you think paid off on test day?

Basically I kept up the Dorian's deck through out the clerckship. Finished Uworld once during clerckship and then did Amboss during dedicated. Honestly after taking it...all you need is UWorld. UWSA1 and UWSA2 are most similar. Question stems in length are similar to NBME. Go with your gut feelings on the answers. If 3/5 clues point to Answer A and 2/5 clues point to Answer B..go with Answer A

Amazing! how did you find the overall exam in regards to the timing?

What time does the score come out

Surprisingly timing wasn't too bad since the questions stems are actually shorter than what you see on UWorld.
This is reassuring for me as I finish NBME blocks with 10min+ and barely dive for the submit button at the last second in UWSA.

My scores on NBMEs and UWSA are 240’s. Really wanted a 250, but I don’t think I can make it happen and I am absolutely spent so I’m taking this thing Monday. NBME8 was 248 the other day, praying I can eek out 2 more points on the real deal. I tend to make some dumb mistakes on the real thing, MCAT and Step 1 were an avg of my final 3 practice exams.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones to have not been cancelled. Took the real deal June 1.

Study strategy:
-Did all of my reading, OME videos, review podcasts during core clerkships. Really went hard for shelf exams (>90%ile on all core so far). Tons of Anki (I chose Dorian).
-First pass of UW during clerkships alongside relevant material.
-Reset UW ~4 weeks out -- 3-4 blocks/days, with some catch-up days sprinkled in where I completed more. Spent ~30 min-1 hr reviewing my blocks... I chose to focus on test-taking strategy >>> reviewing content that I already felt solid about. No additional reading/videos/flashcards, as I already felt I built a solid foundation over the last year.
-Reviewed incorrect Q's from my second pass the 2-3 days prior.

Stats:
-Step 1: 248
-UW 1st pass: 80%
-UW 2nd pass: 86%
-NBME 6: 268 (2 weeks from test date)
-NBME 7: 240 (taken the first day of my dedicated period for a baseline, at ~4 weeks out)
-NBME 8: 265 (5 days from test date)
-USAW1: 272 (1.5 weeks out)
-USAW2: 266 (3 days out)

Goal for CK is 260+ but will be grateful to meet or beat my step 1 score in any capacity. The exam felt similar in formatting to the NBME's, with the difficulty level slightly above UW. Overall, I am caught between feeling grateful to have a score to put on my application and feeling like absolutely trash about the level of difficulty. Crossing my fingers that the experimental questions are why I felt that way, but honestly CK was a beast IMO.

Update:

266 on the real deal. I’m beyond thrilled! I was genuinely freaking out after my exam experience. It was a bonus that it only took ~2 weeks for my score to result.

Awesome score, great work! Can you elaborate on what test taking strategies you focused on in your studying? I have been at a plateau on my scores for a couple of weeks and I think it is due to test taking >> knowledge gaps
