Official 2020 Step 2 CK Experiences With Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I took NBME 7 yesterday and took an 11 point score drop. From searching, it seems this is super common. I went from 241 -> 230. Despite searching and finding its very commoon for people to drop about this much, I feel discouraged. Just looking for a morale booster I guess - test is in 22 days. Shooting for a 250.

Using predict my step score , it appears you're still on track for >250 based on that NBME score. You got this!

How are you guys handling the new changes in the exam sometime in June (ramping up legal/professional/ethical etc. to 10-15%)?...

Good news!

Are these NBME curves ruthless or is that just me? Took my first NBME and freaked out with my score although my raw % was decent. I guess this is good to help light a fire under my a*s but still, really disheartening.

Advice on test order? Ramping up to take my first practice test here in the next day or so

Mine is NBME 6, 7, 8, UWSA1, UWSA2, free 120. I've been told the test order doesn't matter as much as long as UWSAs are taken last since those seem to be the most predictive.

I got rocked by 6 but did almost 20 points better on 8. Can't really trust the NBME scores- to do well, you need to get such a high percentage correct. They were way off for Step 1 (at least for me)

How far apart did you take 6 and 8?

Interesting. Yeah, 6 destroyed me the other day. I take 7 next, so we'll see if I get a big jump in a weeks time.

I did 11 points worse on 7 than 6, which I took 8 days prior. YMMV, but be prepared not to improve a lot on 7! Brutal curve. Most people don't see a huge jump. I was feeling down about this the other day but got some reassurance above, as well as from extensive internet searching.

I took NBME 7 a month and a half ago before I had studied for my last two shelves (Peds and psych) or really had started Uworld, and got rocked. Just went back through to see my raw % and surprised me that I got 72% correct but that equated to a 202? Not sure how accurate that is. Really glad I've been doing Uworld and reviewing though if that is accurate lol

Hey everyone wanted to check in. Obviously I’ve seen that form 7 is stupid but I took it today and wanted to get some thoughts on my down trending exam results.

UW1 268 (2 weeks ago)
NBME6 256 (1 week ago)
NBME7 235 (today)

exam is 6/24. I felt really off today and just didn’t feel as crisp as I was for my previous practice exams. Don’t know if that’s because I’m burnt out or I’m notgetting restful sleep. Any thoughts if I should maybe slow down or what? Goal is at least a 248 or higher

According to the reddit predictor a 235 on NBME 7= ~254. I would put more weight on the UWSAs and the overall score predictor.

I dropped 18 points between NBME 7 and UW 2. Definitely hoping my score is closer to my UW score haha. But I think you’re on track for your goal score if not much more.

I've seen some people slipping in Level 2 CE talk here (I'm taking it as well).

Welp I had a test date for the old test before the new level 2 is released and it definitely took me by surprise. I take STEP2 early June so hopefully I feel better about that one.

For reference:
NBME7: 227 - Back in February
NBME6: 239 - Back in March
UW1: 260 - 4/5 days before Level 2

DId you take any of the COMSAE?

No COMSAE I just took the COMBANK practice exam (which was most like COMLEX when I took it for Level 1) and it gave an estimated score of 720s-730s. It felt like it was curved awfully hard though, I think I got around an upper 70% without studying OMM. The OMM on the actual exam felt very similar to the practice test and medicine questions felt similar also, but the exam was super lopsided in terms of content and had an absurd amount of ethics/law. I had nearly forgotten why I thought the COMLEX was a terrible exam to begin with.

I felt the same. Oh well we will find out how we did on June 2nd

Is it possible to take the "new" free 120. Apparently it is a different version that you could take if you took it at a Prometric center? I took the free 120 from the nbme website and it appears to be the old one.

For people who used amboss what are your overall thoughts?
It's not bad. From my limited experience with it (I've done 500-1000 questions), sometimes the questions are overly complex, compared to Uworld (which is evinced by the fact that sometimes 10-20% of people get a question correct), but it is really helpful in distilling down what parts of the question were important, giving concise explanations, and giving you quick-links that you can go to in order to learn more about the topic. If you're looking for a second Qbank, I don't think it's a bad choice, but it goes without saying that Uworld should take top priority.

Yeah, I think the moral of the story with Step 2/Level 2 CE (in general) seems to be that most people feel terrible walking out, and then are pleasantly surprised by what the curve gods have blessed them with. Fingers crossed.

Question for you guys... I sit for step 2 in 17 days (god willing lol) and have NBME 8, UWSA 1 and 2, and Free 120 left to take. I'm planning on taking NBME 8 next, this week.

My question is..should I take both UWSA 1 and 2 next week (i.e. UWSA1 on Tuesday, UWSA2 on Friday), and just take the Free 120 on the week of my exam? Or should I take both UWSA2 and Free 120 that week?

I'm torn. I want to be able to learn from the UWSA before the exam, so taking both next week seems best in that regard. But I also know that UWSA 2, in particular, is one of the most predictive...so not sure if taking it 7 days before is too early?

How long do you think it will take for scores to come back for step 2? It says 3-4 weeks but im not sure if COVID has caused delays.

I am in a dilemma. I am scheduled to take the exam July 3. Originally, I had 3 weeks off to study for this test. However, my school is resuming rotations and will not give me time off in June to take the test. I can move the test to September and get 3-4 weeks off, but I am worried about having a score in time for ERAS.

I have two options:
a) keep test date and study while on rotations
b) take it in September with 3-4 weeks off and try to get a score back prior to October 21st ERAS deadline.

Thoughts? I’m torn and pretty pissed at my school for not giving me my previously allotted 2 weeks off to study for step 2. I’m nervous to move it to September and not get a score back in time, but also nervous with studying while on rotations (which are expected to be clinically very busy)

Personally I’m just studying during my June rotation, although it’s an outpatient based one and the hours are a little better than what yours sounds like.

On the other hand I seriously doubt programs will give Step 2 much weight this year when so many applicants likely won’t have scores, so not having a score back by ERAS probably won’t hurt you at all.

Really hope that’s true. A lot of people at my school used the schools prep time for their exams only to have their exam pushed back at the last second. No more prep time allowed by the school.

My friend took it 5/1 and his permit disappeared so he’ll get it tomorrow. I took it 5/2 and mine didn’t disappear so I guess I’ll get it next week. So still 3-4 week turn around. Also my CS score came back the first day of the reporting period. So I don’t think there are any delays

Great, thank you for that! Please post when you get your score so we can see the timeline, but looks like they are staying on that 4 week timeline which is reassuring

Soo I've been getting ~90% correct on my second pass of UW as I've been going through it since resetting, at about 25% complete now.
I'm getting the feeling that part of why I'm scoring that high is remembering the questions because I've matured most of Dorian. I'm doing 120 Qs a day, would it be dumb to do 80 UW and 40 AMBOSS? I feel like getting exposure to new questions would be beneficial to me, because it would challenge me to apply the knowledge from UW in a new way (like Step 2 will be lol) but I do have UW fomo if I do that....

id like to know an answer to this as well.

It's been a while since I've posted on here.

I have my last shelf tomorrow (surgery) and then 3 weeks of dedicated. Step 1 6/15 and Level 1 6/18. Hopefully they don't get canceled.

Been doing Tzanki and UWorld all 3rd year as well as Comquest for COMAT shelves. UWorld 1st pass of 73%. 90% through Tzanki.

Honored all COMAT shelves except OB/GYN and we'll see what happens tomorrow on the surgery shelf.

Feeling a bit behind since I haven't taken a practice test yet but I think I'll do UWSA1 on Sunday.

Gonna reset UWorld and hope to get through a 2nd pass in those 3 weeks. 120+ questions a day or so. Also hoping to keep up with Anki.

Hoping for 250+.

Also been playing an inordinate amount of Animal Crossing.

My current date is scheduled for 5/28, but as I'm looking at prometric, I see that theres a date open for 6/5 in my town. My test was originally scheduled for 3/27, but obviously cancelled. I've been doing "dedicated" for the last 4ish weeks. These have been my scores on my practice exams:

UWSA1 (12 days out from test): 253
UWSA 2 (5 days out): 240 :/
Free120 today (3 days out): 83%
UW: 72% on second pass
Im not sure what happened on the second UW but its v sad

Am I on track to get 250+ if I take it in a few days (on the 28th), or should I move it back to 6/5 for a few more days of studying. That being said, what high yield stuff can I even study with UW done? Maybe the incorrects?

Any advice is appreciated! And hopefully the new test date doesnt go away while im deciding lol

For anyone who’s taken level 2:

What’s with the ethics questions? I’ve heard there’s a bunch of Latin to memorize for this thing. Any tips?

Turn up to ethics deck should help.

TurnUp to Law/Ethics deck will have everything you need like @Neopolymath said. Literally skim through the deck the day/night before; no more effort than that.

It does not say anything about n-95 that I could find. I will be wearing your garden variety halyard brand surgical mask tied very loosely.
I'm gonna wear a fishing gaitor. Those things are made for wearing for a long time and actually being able to breathe. Gonna look like I'm robbing the Prometric though but hey they rob us blind all the time

Mine have perforations so I figured they wouldn't let me wear a buff. Good idea if yours don't!

bought a super cheap one that doesn't. Its thin as hell so no way it actually helps protect anyone from anything but I'm just hoping it gets past Prometric security. Gonna bring a regular mask just in case

Same I took it 5/2
When you say permit disappeared, do you mean the box where it says "Print Permit" or "Confirm or Reschedule"? Took on May 9 (Saturday) and from what I've read, Thur - Sat = 3 weeks and Sun though Wed = 4 weeks. I was expecting the score tomorrow but looks like that may not be the case.

Edit: so I may have been confused. I went back and then clicked on "print permit" and it directed me to a page that said this is no longer available. Is that what you are talking about?
