*~*~* Official AACOMAS Questions Thread 2016-2017 *~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Since Bioethics refers to "the ethics of medical and biological research", I would categorize it as Bioethics. Same for the Clinical ethics. Both, I would say fall into the category. And even if a class isn't titled as something, it can still count in the category. For example, my writing/english heavy Women's Studies classes I still categorized as English for pre-reqs and I had no problem for it being counted. That's my 2 cents.

Interesting and thank you the helpful reply! I looked up bioethics syllabus from various universities and it corresponds to your definition as well. I wonder, then, what would classify as "Medical Ethics" then...?

Quick question. My "Course Title" section fits when typing but when I click save it's cut off but if I edit its all still there. Should I shorten the course titles or are they not supposed to fully show?

They show--highlight the title and scroll to the right and the full title will be revealed.

Some of the subjects seem specific. For my calculus class do I choose calculus or mathematics? Does it matter? Same for ochem. I can choose either chem or ochem from the menu

Within the science domain, I don't think it matters too much. If a DO school requires, for instance, histology, then it will matter (none do btw).

I think when they varify your coursework they will put it in the correct category.

For example: i put math for calculus, when they verified it, they put it under calculus. So i assume they reassigned category

Oh I know they will verify which could mean recategorize it but I want to make it good from the get go so as to limit such reshuffling lol

I still need to fill out more EC. Can I still do that after I hit submit?? People tell me I can't. I don't want to wait till finish all the EC section before verifying.

If I already chose to carry-over, is it still possible to start a fresh application instead?

AACOMAS is not allowing people to create another application after doing the carry-over. Called them about it last week, and they told me I couldn't start a new app.

After submitting, you can only add new ECs, but not edit nor delete old ones.

unfortunately, no

This is absolutely devastating news... I had been retaking courses at a community college since I submitted last year. Since I chose the carry-over feature instead of starting a blank app now these courses won't be considered for grade replacement. It's unfortunate that a technicality in the application system could make such an impact on my GPA calculation

I feel your pain. I alms it fell into this trap this morning and backed out at the last second.

Very unfortunate that this new policy isn't highlighted or announced

I'm sure this was answered somewhere, please excuse my ignorance.

When filling out courses, and the app prompts "minimum credits 8, minimum grades 2"
That means I need to courses, (4 credits each) with no lower than a C in each, correct?

Yes, at the very least 2 courses at 4 credits each. It could also be a different combination of courses to credits (e.g., 2 courses at 3 credits each, plus 1 course at 4 credits) if your courses fall below 4 credits each.

I see, and the "minimum grades 2" means at least a C correct? As in 2.0?

I know this is a silly question, but when was the first day AACOMAS began accepting submissions? I can't seem to find any information online.

They began accepting submissions the day the app went live, they just won't be released to schools until the 14 of June I believe. Submit away! I did yesterday.

can someone please help me with LOR submission? Do I use "interfolio" or can I simply type in the person's information on the AACOMAS application and do it like that? What do people recommened and why? please help

For club membership do I classify it as compensated, received academic credit, or volunteer ? Also for shadowing what is the classification ? I put volunteer for both but not sure.... Also how many hours have others entered for clubs ? Thanks ! : )

What is the limit for experiences? Also, can we put down planned experiences, I start scribbing in June.

So I could submit my application with Transcript entry, college coursework completed, PS completed, Achievements completed, and still have my LOR sent as well as add any new ECs?

Could anyone explain how, perhaps, AACOMAS could differentiate between "Medical Ethics" and "Bioethics"? I called AACOMAS and the guy said "Research Ethics" would fall under Bioethics (as I believe it should), but I am worried that someone else could say nah, its Medical Ethics..

I had a quick question about grade replacement. I know one of the requirements was that the course level has to be the same, could anyone elaborate this for me?

If i took orgo 2 at institution 1:
ORGO 33xx (3 credit hour)

retook it at institution 2:
ORGO 24xx (4 credit hour)

will it count as a replacement? Most CC courses go up to 2xxx

As long as the second institution also has it as Orgo 2, you should be fine as a first-time application.

I was wondering if anyone could please help me out with these 2 questions: Thanks ! 🙂

1. In AACOMAS when filling out the pre-reqs for specific schools do you select courses you plan to take in the future ? Lets say a program has a minimum of 6 behavioral science hours. When selecting the courses can we select the courses above the 6 credit that we plan to do take in the future ?

2. In the pre- reqs section of AACOMAS some schools classify Anatomy and Physiology as biology courses. The same school will then ask for selection of all upper 3,000+ level biomedical sciences courses. Say that I took Bio 1 + Bio 2 with lab, and took Anatomy and Physiology that are 3,000 level should I put anatomy and phsyiology down for both biomedical and biology ? Or should it just be under biomedical science becuase the min. credits was already meet for bio ?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, I know I'm probably just overthinking it....

I would assume volunteer. At least that's what I put down lol As far as hours, I estimated the number of weeks we had meetings, and just entered the number of hours per meeting into the field.

Quick question: We can add more schools after we get verified right? So for example, submitting the primary app with only 1 school and adding schools after verification?

I have 2 prior MCAT scores with a 3rd one coming in on June 7th. My app is currently being verified. Should I wait to submit my app to the rest of my schools until AACOMAS shows that they've received my newest score or just go ahead and apply asap?

It depends on what those scores are. Are the priors enough to put you through to secondaries?

496 and 497, so maybe for some and maybe not for others. I'm anticipating my 3rd one to be 509ish, knock on wood.

If your app is being verified, that means you have already submitted. Did you only do a throwaway school? If that's the case, and with those MCAT scores being on the low side, I would recommend waiting till AACOMAS has your score in July to submit to your full list of schools. I think a lot of places will not send you secondaries because you're not at the 500 threshold for the ones that screen. Plus early July is still very early!

Ya just submitted to 1 throaway. I all ready took it and will get my scores back on June 7th acually. So I'll wait until aacomas shows my 3rd score and then I'll submit.

OH ok gotcha, then yeah do that! They won't send them out to schools until the 14 anyway so you good.

Im a student athlete and I was just wondering how i put that I was an athlete under " experiences"?

Any Paramedics or EMTs or other allied health folks here? If so, may I pick your brain(s) about how you're completing certain parts of the AACOMAS app?

In particular, I have a question about entering CEs and licenses into the AACOMAS app. All of my education hours were from non-accredited institutions and are therefore CE only, not graded coursework to be computed into the sGPA. In addition to adding my EMT/Paramedic program course completion certificate into the CE section of AACOMAS, would it be best if I only added my other current certifications (like ACLS or PEPP) or all of the certifications that I've ever held, including the now expired ACLS, BLS certs. It seems redundant to enter 3 BLS certs etc since we renew these every two years.

Additionally, are you adding your National or State (or both) certification/licensure cards to this section as well?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Gosh I'm going to feel really stupid asking this question, but I've already searched on here for an answer. I thought our transcripts had to be verified BEFORE we could submit? My "Pay For My Programs" button is grayed out, even though I have many programs selected. And now people are saying they are submitting to one throwaway school so that they will get verified? I'm SO CONFUSED!

Your transcripts can only be verified after you submit. Maybe all of your sections aren't completely filled and that's why it's still gray?

The gray things happen to me on the weekend and I guess today AACOMAS does not working? Or did you submit FEe Waiver and waiting to be approved? Those might be the reason it gray

But we can still submit transcripts and have them arrive at AACOMAS before the entire application is verified right? I thought transcripts had to arrive first before we were able to submit.

Right, your transcripts must all be submitted to AACOMAS before you can submit. And after you submit, the verification process can begin.

Right, thats what i thought, but my transcript still hasnt arrived at AACOMAS and the app service is still giving me the option to submit.
Maybe you can submit without the transcript, but it wont be reviewed or verified until it arrives?
