most schools do this...i believe last year it was KSU who had a problem b/c more OOS accepted their seat than they had anticipated.

if oregon is a vmcas school, im pretty sure all of them are on the same decision day...april 15. so once they offer u that spot...its yours until that decision deadline. check to make sure.

and if you're REALLY worried about losing your spot, then do like someone else recommended. send in that deposit to secure that spot. then wait it out for the other school you're waiting for.

The schools accept more OOS students than they have room for to account for those who get accepted to IS schools or others they would rather go to. They are not going to offer you an acceptance and then withdraw their accptance. IMO, I think you are good to go until the deadline which I was told all schools mutually agree on April 15th as the universal deadline.
 
Exactly. They cannot rescind an offer of acceptance up until April 15. After that, it's anyone's game.

Just be careful...on Michigan's acceptance letter, it said something like "while we will make every effort to include you in the class of 2014, in the event that more students accept their offers of admission than expected and the class fills up, you will be placed on a high-priority waitlist to join the class".

basically i guess a few years ago, they had too many people accept the offer to attend and ran out of room, so they put that on their to cover their butts in case it happens again. but from what i heard (when people brought it up at welcome day, concerned they would lose their spot) it only happened that one time.

That's more or less what my Oregon letter said. I'm planning on calling Holly Bell first thing (well, first thing PST) Monday.

Yes, Oregon is VMCAS and I just want to wait on word from Tufts (my interview is in less than2 weeks :xf:) I've got some serious thinking to do in the next few weeks. Honestly, my plan C (reapplying) is probably the easiest decision to live with right now 😉

flyhi, I thought this as well, but like a few others, including cowgirla, have said, it's almost first come/paid, first served. So that's why I'm worried about treading on thin ice.

From my Oregon acceptance:
"...we make more initial offers than there are positions available. In the unlikely event that the number of candidates who accept offers of admission exceeds the number of non-resident positions available, preference will be given to those applicants who first submit the attached acceptance form."

In other words, yeah, they'll rescind the offer. It's kinda like being accepted and threatened at the same time. Really pissed me off.

Me too, LivestockDoc. I'm honored but at the same time, incredibly pissed off. If Oregon was my only choice, I would be elated. But, I'm OOS and applied at other places where I'd like to know my chances rather than feel threatened about my spot. I *know* the letter may not have meant to come off that way, but that's how I felt.

WHAAAAAT?!?!?!? They actually said that! OMG that is enough to make me not want to go to the school! Wow. Why not accept less people and then have a longer wait list, which you can call people off of as soon as you know you have spots? THATS WHAT WAITLISTS ARE THERE FOR. Sorry you Oregon peeps have to worry about what should be a joyous next few months.

Congrats!!! :laugh::laugh: Funny story with cars....I was in Philly for the summer and when someone smashed the back of my car, I called a garage. The receptionist told me that "You're in Philadelphia. what else do you expect?" My thoughts: I expect all people to able drivers.... Hope you don't have to take a loan out to get it fixed....:/

I interviewed at Louisiana State this weekend and during the welcome session, the admissions director brought this up and said that the AVMA will be talking to the schools that do this. He said the AVMA was going to talk to those schools this week, because what they're doing is not fair (since all the schools have agreed on April 15, and they're essentially trying to force you to make a decision before April 15). So, hopefully everyone will have a spot (that wants it!). 🙂
