In the continuing spirit of the tradition started last year, we will hold this as your official countdown til score release thread. You can use this as a countdown, but may also post in here general conversation if you are just going insane over this wait. Also, this may not be an exact of when the scores will come out, but we don't know how many days before the official 60 days are over they will come out. Last year, they came out around June 15th at 10pm. But this will give us a rough approximation.

Ok, let the fun begin.........

59 days and counting........

Lets pray for all of you and for my very best roommate, and two of my other bestest friends. 😀 May all come with good news in the following two months.

This is for the neurotic ones who just need somewhere to vent their frustration over the wait. 😛

Wow, all you early birds!

It's almost like smoking cigarettes in that your risk for EVERYTHING just went up: heart problems, pulmonary problems, anemia, etc. America eats too many carbs? Look at France: bread and wine everyday and they don't have any problems. Look at China & India: eating rice every meal for criminy's sake, and they're as small as can be (aside from Yao 😛). It boils down to a choice, unfortunately, society throws a wrench in the whole works with ""TV culture"".

Holy crap. I'll get off my soap box. And return to checking THx before work :-D.

*chanting*lay off the coffee, lay off the coffee*chanting*

They also smoke a lot in France too.

there will probably be some sort of warning, at least thats from what i heard. Maybe
"April 2006 MCAT scores will be available Tuesday, June 20." will change to
April 2006 MCAT scores are now available.
I have a feeling the update will be something like when the August scores were released...Earlier on the day of release, they updated the examinee data. Then they put up a message that said "Thank you for your patience. The scores will be posted tonight, but certainly not before 10:30 PM EST" or something of that nature...if you search on this thread, I've definitely posted it before.

Anyone have an alarm set for the stats page updates?

there is unfortunately, increased risk of everything with smoking cigarettes, even a few. What a lot of people don't realize is cigarettes don't just cause cancer, they are linked with causing so many other problems, anything from heart attacks to ear infections.

i mean, yes if you do anything in a really small amount its not going to be that bad. If you snort 1 grain of crack im sure your gonna be just fine, but thats not really the point. The point is there IS studies that show for many people, it take very few cigarettes, even as little as one or two, to get hooked and become a pack a day smoker

it's just amazing to me that you can still buy a product that is intentionally going to really mess if your health when you use it the right way

Sorry, Imma throw in two cents about the whole carcinogen issue too. I have to agree with ironman about the whole miniscule amounts thing. One or two cigarettes almost degrades into random chance. You'd be inhaling just that amount of burnt crap from barhopping after your score release 😛.

And uh, people avoiding things simply because they're carcinogenic? PuLEEZ. "I won't eat charred stuff because it'll give me cancer" Well crap, why don't you not breathe? There're radioactive isotopes in every breath you take!

I fear I'm going to ramble on again, so I better get ready for work! :scared:

 I'm starting to sound like a Tobacco Representative lol Oh well, someone's gotta offer another point of view I guess, otherwise the whole discussion would stop and we would be back to counting the ticks of the clock for score release. :meanie:

exactly, its something pointless to agrue about so we keep our minds off of thx!

if anyone wants to really dive deep into tobacoo there is a great review book called "tobacco or health: the physiological and social damages caused by cigarette smoking" It is basically a review of all the current research all over the word, and has about 4,000 citations. Some of the studies are really interesting, but.....a lot of them take place in Europe, where smoking is about 1000 times worse than it is here, so I guess you have to take it for what its worth, but its a very comprehensive book (i am doing anti-smoking policy for a speech class)

i have it set for both the main MCAT page and for the examinee data. i'll post if either of those go off.
Randomness 1: Scentimint - I love the cute fruit you find for your avatars!!!

Randomness 2: I have a page updater for the thx page, the main mcat page, and the publications page. *shakes head* OY! I finally caved and installed them.

Randomness 3: Just walked my gf over to Thomson Prometric, which is now the exclusive test center for USMLE Step 1. *crosses fingers* Wish her good luck!!!!

Cool. Probably an interesting read. Now lets argue about the benefits of random unprotected copulation! :meanie:

had my first MCAT score dream last night! 34M (about where my practice tests were, except for the M...)

you're supposed to smoke crack, not snort it... maybe that's why you're so uptight ? 😉

MCAT? What's that?

On a random side note, aren't crack and powdered cocaine the same compound? Just that one's a free base form and the other's protonated? Jeez, I'm such a dork.

Best of luck killing the time n then :luck: :luck: :luck: with your scores!

Time for me to go to work...
So, we park on driveways and drive on parkways. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Come on Iowa, give us some indication that y'all are at work today and enjoying the excruciating mental stress we're going through.

MCAT administrators: Change one word and see how fast we catch it, it'll be our little game.

Good morning everyone! I just went to get bagels and coffee. I finally caved in and put up a page checker for my firefox. But instead of an air raid siren, I have the "moo" sound from AIM!

How is everyone in our last or second-to-last day?

How exactly do you install the page checker?

to go folks! 😱 :scared:

Yep.... I just got back from vacation... only to find this threat grow... and nothing else new....

Hey everyone: Congratulations on making it this far (did we really have a choice?). We should have our scores soon. I'm glad I have SDN, I know you all will be some of the FIRST people to check Thx when it goes live!

SDN: Breaking the MCAT news (when it comes), first!

isnt the average life expectancy for people in europe much higher then in the US? Which is funny because kids start smoking early in their teens. my girlfriend bought up the interesting issue that its probably the stress (higher cortisol levels, hypertension) which kills everyone here earlier then anywhere else. People in europe get out of work whenever they want to, go out for two hours, have wine, close down early if business is slow (no stores are open during lunch hours from what i hear), and have a comparatively more laid back lifestyle then america, where everything is a New York minute. I think this thread and our MCAT angst is actually going to shed off a few minutes from our lives. We should start a large randomized study tto see if AAMC really hurts students with the angst they put on its test-takers 🙂

You know what? It isn't really the MCAT waiting that I am worried is taking time off of my life. I'm thinking: studying/stressing for the boards, no sleep as a resident (f-ing pagers), etc will be more of the death of me. Yes, this is bad. But it is only the beginning of the medical pain train. Woo! Woo!

For tonight...are you guys planning on just hitting refresh on THx or do we need to log in & out - anyone know?

My thinking on this is that I'm fully prepared for the challenges we have ahead, the stressing, the waiting, the long hours, etc. It's because I've never been more sure about what I want to do in life. However, what stresses me out the most is losing the ability to pursue that dream. That is the biggest fear that I have, far outweighing anything that medical school, the boards, or residency can dish out.

Every once in awhile, I log out and back in...just a neurotic fear that I may miss the actual release by refreshing the same data! 😱 😀 :scared:

I was wondering the same thing. See the URL has a .cfm which is coldfusion right? So it's server side scripting which dynamically generates the page. Which means refreshing should fetch new data every time - yes?
