In the continuing spirit of the tradition started last year, we will hold this as your official countdown til score release thread. You can use this as a countdown, but may also post in here general conversation if you are just going insane over this wait. Also, this may not be an exact of when the scores will come out, but we don't know how many days before the official 60 days are over they will come out. Last year, they came out around June 15th at 10pm. But this will give us a rough approximation.

Ok, let the fun begin.........

59 days and counting........

Lets pray for all of you and for my very best roommate, and two of my other bestest friends. 😀 May all come with good news in the following two months.

This is for the neurotic ones who just need somewhere to vent their frustration over the wait. 😛

The closer we get to the score release, the more doubts I have about how I did. I think I definitely felt better a month ago!
Oh, I am sure you did fine Oxeye!

And for the record, I am fighting through the PS as we speak. How do you manage to get so much information in less than 5 pages?!

It's actually closer to about a page and a half. And I'm having the opposite problem. I have what I think will be the end of the big revisions on the content and I actually have about 1000 characters that I could use. I'm hoping that it doesn't look too short, but I think I went right to the point.

I'm also feeling a little more doubtful. It's just frustrating trying to figure out where to apply when I don't have the scores back. I'm not too worried about the science sections, but my practice VR scores have been all over the place.

I don't know what I'd do if I had to retake. I'm doing a research internship in a completely different area of the country and I'm very busy with that. I also didn't bring my study guides with me and the date of the August test falls on move-in day for going back to school.

I had a bad nightmare last night where I got a 5 on the verbal. That section killed me when I took the test so I hope that this is not an omen.

with the mcat score release date fast approaching, i can't sleep well and feel like vommiting every time someone mentions scores. i've even played around with the idea of applying to med school as planned, without knowing the results of the mcat. the thought of having to study all over again is reason enough to make me physically ill!

in addition, does it piss you off when others ask you if you got your results back on a daily basis? i think i'm just short on patience these days. hang in there everyone!

Maybe this is a stupid question... but do you have to wait until you get your April scores to submit the AMCAS application?

YES! I have a list of people that I'm supposed to call immediately when I get my scores. People are fighting to be the first one on this "list." It's very annoying and it makes me feel worse.

I start work in a lab on monday. At first I thought, great this will keep my mind off the scores. Then it hit me: I could be in lab without internet acess the day of score release!!! 😱 For some reason, this thought process strikes me as typical of the whole MCAT experience. Everything is a double edged sword.....

are you really going to tell ppl your scores?
all of my friends are also begging me to call them right after i find out my score, but i really dont want to tell anyone what i got. i feel like after the ps section i'm going to need a week alone to get over my score.

I've decided to tell everyone that after giving it a lot of thought, and realizing that I worked as hard as I could for this test, I don't want to know my scores. I'll reassure everyone that I'm confident I did my best, and I hope that's good enough to get me into a decent medical school. Since everything is electronic & automatically released, there's no need for me to actually know my score.

Of course, in reality, I along with hundreds if not thousands of other pre-meds will be compulsively checking the AAMC site, waiting for any hint of a score release, and then hitting the refresh button with increasing frequency as the date nears. I'll just have to be more secretive.

(I might actually NOT look. I didn't look at my SATs & I got in everywhere I applied!)

Does anyone have the link to the page where are scores are going to be posted on? Thanks

I'm not going to tell anyone my scores. I think it's pretty rude to ask someone hey, what did you get?...... Non of yo damn business!!

I think it's ok to say hey, how did the MCAT go or, how do you feel, it's just stupid to ask for the score...

I find it funny that you can have a conversation with someone (who you have known for a while) about the MCAT who has taken it and received their score, and they won't mention their score directly. I'd bet 80-90% of the people I've spoken with either won't tell what their score is or you have to beat it out of them. What's the deal? You'd think you were asking for their bra size or how big their *@#$% was.

I haven't received my score yet but I wasn't ashamed to say I got a 17 on my first practice test and also didn't mind to mention I got a 34 on the last AAMC FL practice test I took.

What's the deal?

I had a hard time finding this site (took me almost 20 minutes) but here it is: You won't be disappointed.

It seems we are all in the same worry-wart-filled boat!
I too pulled out my books for the first time today just in case. Next to verbal, bio is my best (ok so those are my only two really good ones) so I pulled out JUST my Bio material today. Don't even begin to tell me I might have to study physics again because I might screech! 😱

In reply to what an above poster said about people asking about your score.

I wrote the MCAT in April of 2004. From then on, I had people with whom I had scarcely exchanged words approach me and without blinking asking me "So, what did you get on the MCAT?"

My answer: "I did allright," while in my head i'm thinking "go F$#K yourself"

So ya, i hate people like that. I don't know you. Why should you care. Ahh...the good old days..

Good luck you guys 😀

As time appoaches score day, I can't help but feeling doubtful on how I did, and how much time do I really have to study for the Aug test; crazy right?

Anyone else wondering if you should stop watching all those Law & Order marathons and start studying?

I hate this wait...so stressful. Meanwile I'm almost done with the application...the PS is holding me up a bit.

....should I take a practice test? :scared:

Where were you two weeks ago. I was facing the same dilema 2 weeks ago, before the review class for the August test started. Unlike some of you lucky souls, I got to work full time, so there is no way I can improve my score studying on my own. So I took at $1500 chance and started going to the class.
Now I don't know what I hope for. I still wish that I got a good enough score to apply with. But that would mean I am wasting my time and money when I could be working on the PS and letters. So I don't know what number I want to see, maybe a mediocre one like a 30 or 31. I'm confused and freaked out like the rest of you.. 😕 :scared:

I agree I have no problem telling someone my score if they ask. But, I would never offer it if someone didn't ask because it could be seen as bragging. In class, if someone asks how a test went I just say it went well or went badly because you don't know what they got and wouldn't want to make them feel bad. for the record, my practice tests ranged from 30-36. Now someone out there feels bad 🙄 If I get a 20 on the real thing, I'll gladly proclaim it to all of SDN. 👍 And the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

My concern with sharing my scores is that no one I know knows what a good score is. One day I took a practice test and got a 35 and was SO excited and I ran out and told my husband. I said "guess how I scored??" and he said "100?" And i said "no a 35!" and he said "oh, that doesn't sound very good." The same scene repeated when i told my mom. So, I am making up a little card for my family now that lists the score ranges and has a variety of smiley/sad face next to it.

I can certainly commiserate with your situation. I too think that law is really interesting and has a lot of scientific method behind it, which of course warms my pre-med heart. The biggest reason I would suggest NOT going to law school though is that you probably won't end up doing the thing that initially attracted you to law. The burden of school loans will make that big firm job very appealing, and from what I hear- once you get in and get used to the money- it's hard to justify getting out despite a residency-esque work schedule and incredibly dull and mindless paperpushing. On the other hand, if you don't go to a top school, you may not even be able to get a decent paying job. With law school, it really does matter where you go- and if you decide to go, I would suggest only doing so if you can at LEAST get into a Top 100 school, preferably Top 25.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. At the end of the day after so many loans, I guess the thought of making a lot of money might sway ones ambitions. I have a lot of friends who will be or are in law school and they gave the same advice, they said try to stay in the top 50, but REALLY try for top 25 of U of I since Im from Illinois. I guess all of this will hinge on the April Scores...

That's such a great idea. My parents are both in the medical field so they get the scoring but my sisters/boyfriend are lost sometimes. Maybe I should make a chart for them?

BTW, to those people thinking the score will be released the 7th - are you thinking the night of the 7th or the night before at midnight? I hope that makes sense.

I think the night of the 7th, like 11 Central time or so...

Ok so SDN usually has people put scores on here but its semi anonymous on here. I would never just call everyone and tell them my score. That's kinda weird that people are begging to be the first to know what you got.

Its probably a list of family members or really good friends. I know I will have to call my parents, 2 sisters, brother, and best friend right away. I think they are awaiting this score more than me

I'm excited. I had the flu when I took the exam and have absolutely no idea what to expect. I've had excellent luck this year, so I hope the trend continues.

Situations like these help me understand why people turn to praying.

I've started to tell people that i got a 45...they get a little confused at first and then realize it's my polite way of saying none of your business 🙂

I called AAMC 2 days ago and they said "within 60 days". How have you guys managed to get a date out of them??

I don't necessarily agree... if I get a good score, though, I'll be a little embarrassed to answer directly; it'll feel like bragging. If I get a bad one, I won't mind at all telling what I got, and what I think went wrong, etc. It's kind of nice that we can talk about our info in this setting semi-anonymously.

lol - I've got a list. My sister and father will be here when I find out then the order goes like this:
1. My mom
2. My other sister
3. My boyfriend
4. My best friend

That's my whole list. Everyone else can find out from my celebratory/weeping email/blog post.

check this out:

Scores will be reported in 30 days instead of 60 days. Our objective is to eventually reduce reporting to 14 days.

It's for the new computer based MCAT starting in 2007. Can you imagine waiting just two weeks? RIDICULOUS

30 or 31= not mediocre.

I completely agree. The MCAT is such a personal experience, asking someone about the scores is equivalent to asking them about how they lost their virginity. The personal nature of the MCAT is also compounded by the fact that many of the people asking don't really care how you did and are just feigning interest or are genuinely concerned but have no idea what the scores mean and so won't understand what you tell them anyway.

I have no idea what I'll do if my score isn't up to par. I'm SO booked for the rest of this summer, but I have no desire to take a CBT. The rest of my app is pretty strong, which presents the problem of deciding between:

a) Do i want my MCAT to weigh down an otherwise good app?
or
b) Let everything else speak for itself and apply anyway?

Here's to hoping it's not an issue...

This is the part I don't understand. I think people over emphisize the MCAT into a measure of ones worth.

It's just a test and a score. (ok, an important test and score).

Lets just say i know important people in important places, and that i can strongly agree with this statement about mcat grades(sometime this week). I'd be very suprised if this weren't the case...

Wow, one of those is definitely more personal for me.

I really don't see what the big deal is with sharing my score on the MCAT. If someone asks, I will tell them. It's really not a personal thing for me - it's just a test result.

I don't see what the big deal either 🙂 I like asking people about their scores and would love to share my score with anybody who's interested. Btw, 6/6/06 at 6:06:06 would be much cooler! 😀

It is a test result, but I really think that people do base their ideas about your worth/ intelligence on the test result. Mainly, people in the science professions or in the university-- or any outsider that knows the importance of the test. I personally do not look at the MCAT as defining my self-worth, but hate to get asked about how I performed. I just say "fine" even if it was hideous. Besides, if it's a bad score then making excuses never looks good, and if it's really good then it looks like bragging.

Well, it's NOT just a test result. Most of us here have very strong, deep feelings about the MCAT. Most of us have had it the backs of our minds for years. Most of us have devoted years to take prerequisite courses for it, suffered through months of grueling review, and possibly shelled out $1500 for a prep class. For most of us here, our serious and well-considered hopes of becoming physicians depend on this test. We have tremendous vested interest, emotional, intellectual, and financial.

Dear Mr/Ms. "Lets just say i know important people in important places, and that i can strongly agree with this statement about mcat grades(sometime this week). I'd be very suprised if this weren't the case..."

is this for real or is it like some joke where the important person/ppl in high places= the devil and you are being funny. if not that'd be super(I say now after waiting what seems like years but after seeing it i might not agree).

Umm, you're preaching to the choir here. Do you think I haven't done all of these things? Check out the poster count in this thread - I'm ranked poster #5 - so it's pretty obvious that I'm pretty obsessed about my score.

I have done all of the above but I still can't see someone's MCAT score as needing the same degree of privacy as someone's sex life. My previous statement that it is a test does not undermine the importance of the test. It is very important - no one is arguing with that. It is just not a hugely *personal* thing to me (like your comparison that it is as personal an experience as losing your virginity).

Sorry if I offended you - but that comparison just seemed extreme to me. Yes, they are both personal experiences but in different ways. One needs to remain private - the other is more of a judgement call. If you want to keep your score private, tell people so - but I wouldn't get upset with people who ask your score. They are just curious. I think most people would agree that their curiosity is harmless and doesn't cross over any acceptable social boundaries in the same way that asking how someone lost their virginity does.

Yes, Dear Abby would certainly not feel as strongly about asking someone for their MCAT score as she would about inquiring into their coital history. Nevertheless, people who flippantly ask about the score without being offered the information have clearly not considered the gravity of their question and are crossing the boundary into rudeness.

Considering people partake in coital interactions much more than MCAT interactions, and with such stigma and controvery surrounding many areas of sexual relations, asking about your MCAT score pales in comparison to the rudeness of asking about one's sexual history.

Take a step back from Freud. It's not a rude question, and it IS just a test. You can take it again. Med school, the USMLE, your residency, and career are going to be a LOT harder and you will put in a LOT more time and $$ for that - are you going to get pissy when people ask you about how your grades are or how your practice is doing?

Relax, man (or woman). No one's forcing you to put $1500 down for the test. You can study how you want to, but generally, people want to know how the competition fared. I'm sure you'll be asking others about their MCAT day.
