In the continuing spirit of the tradition started last year, we will hold this as your official countdown til score release thread. You can use this as a countdown, but may also post in here general conversation if you are just going insane over this wait. Also, this may not be an exact of when the scores will come out, but we don't know how many days before the official 60 days are over they will come out. Last year, they came out around June 15th at 10pm. But this will give us a rough approximation.

Ok, let the fun begin.........

59 days and counting........

Lets pray for all of you and for my very best roommate, and two of my other bestest friends. 😀 May all come with good news in the following two months.

This is for the neurotic ones who just need somewhere to vent their frustration over the wait. 😛

I hear ya. You may be right. However, I am banking on them really focusing in on the apps by the time we get to the interview stage. So, I constructed my comments to try and reflect what i'm really all about..

there is a pretty good debate going on about just this topic in the pre-md forum. it seems people are torn between the two methods we have chosen. i guess that means either is acceptable 🙂

Hey everyone,
I think we're going to break 4,000, perhaps 5K posts BEFORE score release!

Note: When I checked Thx this morning, still no scores. Surprised?

i tried to keep them short and sweet. a few sentences max. of course some take more explanation then others but i figure some adcom is going to reading thousands of these and won't want to deal with too much flowery info.

This is the strategy my adviser recommended. A friend who graduated from a different school got similar advice, basically to keep it short and use bullet points. My adviser said short, but use sentences.

They have the scores, they must have them if they have all of this "verification" to do. I doubt they work on weekends, so they are sadistic to make us wait until next week. It's our summer session A finals week next week for Pete's sake! 😀

Anybody ever make that road trip down to Iowa? Or any Iowans try storming the office?

Hmmm. Very interesting. I may need to re-think what I have written. Although my degrees have all been in the sciences, I spend a lot of time with humanities subjects, so my writing can be a little more verbose. Mine kind of tells a story when taken together, but adcoms may not have time to read through all that. Does anyone know the format of this section? How it looks when it is printed out for the adcoms???

I'm guessing they get something that looks like the PDF version when you hit the "print application" button on the main page.

From everyone I have talked to (PreMed committee and all) It is the same format as you can preview when you are submitting your app for verification- that is what the adcoms see. Your ECs are all in one section together with the explanations. Hope that helps.

I am. I've written the significant research experiences essay and the why MD/PhD essay already, but I still need to work on my MD personal statement.

I kind of tell a story with mine too...I kinda looked at it as another opportunity to let the admissions people know more about me. I almost figured that the more you write, the better, because this is your shot to tell them anything they need to know about you. But I didn't make all of mine really long because I thought that might be annoying (for example, my description for an award was one sentence).

I must too confess that I'm a lurker myself. I have been checking the mcat forums almost every hour since I've started prepping for the April MCATs. Here's to my first post! 😀
just in case no one else gave them to you yet....welcome! 😀

Ah. That makes sense. This whole process is so stressful because we all want to make sure we do everything exactly right, exactly how it would make our app look the best it can be. Leads to much second guessing.

Yeah, I tried to make a bet with my mom that if I got a 42 on the MCAT (which I will never get) that she would have to buy me a Jeep. She wouldn't do it because she didn't believe that it was that hard to achieve such a score.
D***. I wish I had thought of that.... 😀

Thanks! It does. And thanks to you too Chyme, I had not yet printed my app like that yet. Turns out they list your experiences in reverse chronology. Good to know.

 Did you expect that you would get as high as you did? Or did you have second thoughts about your performance while waiting for the scores to come out? I know I go back and forth thinking I did poorly or really well.

I guess I'd be one of the lurkers. Four days to go, I might as well come out of hiding. Been here morning, noon, and night for about a month- thanks for all the amusement! Love the haikus, and the dog and baby pics are too cute!!!
Hey, another Floridian! 🙂 Welcome, and good luck!

I was hoping for a 40, but predicting a 37, which was my last practice test score. So no, I wouldn't have expected to have won the bet. 😉 I don't think anyone ever comes out of there thinking that they aced the thing. I felt most confident about BS, so I wasn't worried about that (and it did turn out to be my best section.) I wasn't sure about some questions on PS. But I asked that physicist about them, and he said I'd gotten them right, so that made me feel better. But the VR, geez, I had no CLUE how I'd done on VR....so I figured, ok, best case scenario, 40, TOPS, and probably actual score in mid to high 30s. Obviously I do not have a great future as a prognosticator. 😳

Thanks, Q. Sounds like you're from the lower half of FL- I'm up near Jacksonville for the summer.

I know if I were MCAT people, I'd release scores on Fridays at 4:59 pm. Then enjoy a nice quiet weekend before all the crazy pre-med calls started on Monday.

I wish I had that much faith in my score...I got a 34 on the last practice, and I'm praying that I break double digits on all of the sections.

Florida rocks the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking, assuming 24 is the average on the MCAT with an 8 in each section, won't there be the same amount of people getting 30's as 18's on the test? What kind of person would get an 18 or heck even lower on the MCAT? Or do people just blow one section with like a 2 or something and that brings their score down? How would you like to be anxiously awaiting your score to only get a 10 or something for the combined score..... ouch!

After writing this I realized this might freak some people out... 😳

haha that's the word I was trying to think of... all the others sounded like first grade jokes!

And wang doesn't??

Although it does count as a Simpsons reference, so bonus points for that:

Dr. Hibbert: What you need isa good, long rest. I suggest Florida.
Homer: Florida? But that's America's wang!
Dr. Hibbert: They prefer, "The Sunshine State."

Yes, there will be people who score that low, but naturally most of them aren't going to want to post that news all over SDN. 😉 As for why/how that happens, there are lots of reasons: taking the test with missing pre-reqs (this is a biggie! You wouldn't believe how many people come on here wondering if it's ok to take the MCAT without having had physics or organic!), not studying for the test, studying incorrectly or insufficiently for it (especially not taking enough practice tests), too much test anxiety (common problem when people have good practice test scores and then just bomb the real thing), English is not the person's native language (these students tend to struggle more with VR in particular), being out of school for a lot of years (non-trads over age 30 score the lowest of any age group), mis-bubbling, etc. I'm sure you all can come up with some more.

Taking tests well is a skill like everything else. It's certainly true that some people are naturally better at it than others, but anyone can improve their test-taking abilities with enough time and practice. That's why it's so important to take multiple practice tests under test-like conditions.

Gulp! :scared:

Do schools take that into account, that we have lost some brain cells since our younger days, or do we have to compete on a level playing field with the young? 😀

I actually started to misbubble twice (once on PS and once on VR). Had to erase about 5- 10 questions and re-bubble. (yes I erased completely). It can happen to the best of us. Luckily I caught it.

How about a Sunday release of scores. What a nice Father's day present. Thats right, Father's day for all of you that may have forgotten.
Nahh, the release must be slow, in the middle of the week, preferrably during finals week or during your summer courses. Its more painful that way! 😀

Gotta love the masochism of it all. I have plenty of pain though. I work full time, take care of my 2 year old, am still taking graduate classes, and am in the middle of researching/writing a Masters thesis in addition to the med school app stuff. :scared:
