In the continuing spirit of the tradition started last year, we will hold this as your official countdown til score release thread. You can use this as a countdown, but may also post in here general conversation if you are just going insane over this wait. Also, this may not be an exact of when the scores will come out, but we don't know how many days before the official 60 days are over they will come out. Last year, they came out around June 15th at 10pm. But this will give us a rough approximation.

Ok, let the fun begin.........

59 days and counting........

Lets pray for all of you and for my very best roommate, and two of my other bestest friends. 😀 May all come with good news in the following two months.

This is for the neurotic ones who just need somewhere to vent their frustration over the wait. 😛

the only thing is, alcohol has shown to have an added benefit to health (maybe not ethanol directly per se, but things like red wine, full of antioxidants, or even a beer a day apparently have an increased health benefit). and well food is food, it always has some health benefit regardless. Cigarette smoking has no benefit whatsoever, except that badass look 😉 just being a devil's advocate,
of course of course but eating in excess is definitely bad for you. Isnt heart failure the leading cause of death among adults? seems like if you have lead an unhealthy lifestyle by doc and government standards you should be excluded from medicaid/medicare since you're "doing it to yourself"

Don't give up!!! Scores from last times were released the night before!
Do you know how long before score release examinee data was posted last time? It's still possible scores will release tonite IF data is posted later this evening, though I am doubtful; it's already 4 p.m. eastern.

Anybody have a great recipe for Mac and Cheese that doesn't involve Kraft, Annie's and the like? You know, actual cheddar cheese and all. I've never made it, and would like to try a batch to go with that bottle of champagne worth the number of dollars of my MCAT score (thanks, Zimmie!).

My parents always used the recipe from "Joy of Cooking." It's pretty good (from what I remember - I don't really like cheese/cream-based sauces anymore) and you can skip the baking part, if you're not in the mood.

Similar statements could be made about the obese.

yes, but it's much more of a stretch. food is a totally different thing than tobacco. Is there any commercially available product in the U.S. other than tobacco that is always harmful to your health when used as intended. Food doesn't count towards this, even McDonald's

I don't know. It's my first time taking it...

It's all about the joining of freedom and responsibility. I think we should have the freedom to make choices and the responsibility for the consequences of our choices. If the govt keeps on taking responsibility for the consequences of people's decisions, it'll eventually have to start making the decisions as well, as it has already started doing with all these smoking bans.

I would like to see us restore both the individual freedoms and responsibilities. Tough to follow through on a resolution like that, though, when somebody's dying of cancer. So we head toward socialism.

Alcohol's way more of a fuzzy issue... the lawyers would have a field day proving whether a person has been drinking their healthy 1 glass of red wine a day or going to town on cheap grain alcohol every night or something in between...

food itself though, is not harmful when used as intended. Its very good for you actually, it keeps you alive. Its the wrong use of food that is harmful. Sure, if people eat McDonalds everyday and get huge, same argument applies to them because they did it to themselves.

There is no safe way to smoke, its ALWAYS bad for you no matter what.

I was only talking about whether people who smoke should be denied medicare for lung-cancer related treatment. Isn't the logic being theyre willingly putting themselves at risk by participating in high-risk activity? Seems being obese is similar

yea i totally agree. If you can proove that someone is obease because they ate like crap........ it's more of a debate though. Are they genetically proned to it. I mean, you have to eat to survive right? What if it's not their fault? What if they can't afford anything but crappy, fatty foods?

You can't make these arguments about smoking. You don't need to smoke to live. You buy cigarettes to hurt your body, look cool, or maybe get a little buzz or satify your nicotene craving. Thats it.

Sadly, I think the AAMC is going the distance...it's going for speed...it's all alone (all alone!)...in a time of need!

Oh wait...I think that's a Cake song

They have successfully driven all optimism WRT score release out of my body...of course, I would be pleasantly surprised if they were released tonight...but I'm not holding my breath!

I think they're retaliating against us for all our phone calls, e-mails, and irate SDN posts!

Anyone know how soon AMCAS loads MCAT scores after release? My AMCAS just says "not loaded yet"

Also how long does it take to send to TMDSAS/AACOMAS. If we designate the night of, does it send electronically immediately?

I'm actually surprised we haven't reached 5k yet! Where were all of the folks that are on this thing while at work?! 😴

do you do this research yourself? Or do you just watch the history channel?

like I said before, there are tons of opposiing viewpoints on smoking, but unless you are sitting in your lab researching all this stuff, I wouldnt claim "bull****" to anything. I think it's pretty common sense the inhaling smoke is bad for you, I don't care what anyone says.
No, I have done plenty of research.

When someone makes a claim (i.e. second hand smoke is harmful,) it is their burden to prove that claim to be true. In the case of second-hand smoke, that has not conclusively been proven. For a good discussion of the studies that purport to establish that second=hand smoke is harmful, see:

http://www.davehitt.com/facts/

(Yes, this is way OT, but we all need something to do while waiting for MCAT scores, right?)

NOTE: I never purported that smoking ("first-hand" smoke) was not harmful, just that most things are only bad when done in excess.

I was wondering about this too...I'm not sure if you have to release them from MCAT THx, or if they are automatically loaded into AMCAS when they are released to us.

Goodness...I go to class and lab, come back, and there's like 20 more pages in this thread! 😛

yes yes, I am only arguing with you because I am completely glued to my computer until the scores are out. Chances are i'll go buy a pack myself within the next 30 hours

I'm bored at work and don't get off for another hour, so I thought I'd add to the quest for 5000 posts on this thread.

By the way...thanks for keeping me updated and entertained throughout the waiting game.

Other than that, I have nothing of importance or relevance.

Don't jinx us!!!

I'm so hoping you're right! No, I'm not. I'm expecting Tuesday night. I'll be happy with Tuesday night. I'm so hoping you're right! No, I'm not. I'm expecting Tuesday night. I'll be happy with Tuesday night. I'm so hoping you're right!... etc

Man, I'm not gonna get much sleep tonight. I'll be checking from midnight until I get tired. And then I have a lab at 8am, but I just set up WAP on my cell phone so I can check my scores with that. 🙂

I really, really want scores to come out tonight. But I keep telling myself that I should expect them to come out tomorrow to avoid disappointment, especially after being disappointed when June 7, 12, 13 all came and went. ARGH!

Yeah, I've been on and off; with pending mcat scores i'm spending so much time on here. 😀 To the above poster's question, I read that they're uploaded the instant they're released (Thx and amcas are linked).

Yes. They will be up tonight. I'm almost postitive. The past year (april and aug) they have posted them the night before. Usually around 12am EDT.

That doesn't leave much time for Pint Night.

mshheaddoc, so it's not too late for data to be released later tonite?

Sure they were released the night before in previous years, but they also posted teaser messages on THx that same morning. I'm not getting my hopes up.

How soon?

As soon as AMCAS gets around to it, which from recent experience tells us....never! At least the Stanley Cup final is tonight- that's at least a couple hours of distraction!
