Thanks bone...DMU was great while I was there (felt like where I wanted to be)...students were all happy, facilities were amazing, environment was great...etc. I gonna miss chicago (specifically the Bulls and Bears games 🙁 ..but I wouldnt have time for that anyway right👍 ) but I really wanted to get out of the whole city thing for a bit and kinda have things slow down (didnt even apply to CCOM right outside of chicago). I think it will be the perfect place to study medicine, so I hope to see all you guys there in a few months...have fun while it lasts.

hey guys congrats on getting into DMU...I'm trying to put some feelers out and I'm looking to sell a lot of my stuff at my apartment (third year rotations I'm going out of state).

I just figured I put this out there for those of you coming here before you go out and buy various items for your new apartment/house in Des Moines.

Some things I'm selling are a 51" HDTV, sofa, coffee table, end table, desk, queen sized bed w/nightstands, dresser, and a kitchen table / chair (4) set.

I'm going to be listing it on DMU's classifieds soon and I'll post up details (with photos) about the items soon. 😎

hah...I have it in a 1 bedroom apartment and fits fine.

I'm letting it go with the wall unit built for it on the side. Definately a nice "get away" when you have a study break. I've had plenty of usage out of it, especially for football. 🙂

Anyways in all seriousness anyone coming to DMU in July for school and wants it they're welcome to it. Great addition. 'm looking to sell it for $900 and has an extra 1yr warranty on it. Works wonderful on MediaCom cable.

Price is $900 and comes with an additional 1 year warranty (until July 2008). It's transferrable. TV comes with that wall unit on it's left (as it's designed for the TV). Consider it free in the bundle. 🙂

...and lastly going out on a "limb" here. Perhaps if someone wants an apartment right by the school (it's directly across from the main enterance to DMU) perhaps they could just move into my apartment "fully furnished" and buy everything flat out. Like I said just a thought (as I'd probably drop the price on a few items...consider it like a "combo package"). Things would have to be coordinated with who I'm renting from of course.

Hey all,

I am accepted at KCUMB (2011!!) and anticipating a late interview at DMU...
At KCUMB, a large majority of 3/4th years go eastward for their clinicals, and I think it is a challenge to do electives in hospitals of your choice (west coast, etc. in order to meet people and set up for residency).

Any other information about the 2 programs anyone can provide?

Does anyone have any comparisons of these two schools for me?

OK, now that the match is over......did they hand out those little sheets that show where everyone is matched at? TCOM's has already been posted, we can't let them out due us!

Sorry if I come of as the "new" girl....but I'm certianly a novice when it comes to SDN. Anywho...I'm happy to say I'll also be heading to DMU this July/August!!!! Just curious if any of you are bringing pets, specifically (large) dogs.

I am heading down with my gf, and we are planning on getting a dog. She preferably wants a small one, I would much like a larger dog:laugh: . But right now we are just trying to look for a place that will accept either.
 
UIC Killa.....

I have a yellow lab...he's about 95 lbs already (he's just shy of a year!). I'm headed down to DMU the first week of April to look at housing options...I'll let you know which, if any, accept dogs. From looking on the DMU portal classifieds/apartment websites a lot of places have a "weight" limit (i.e. 15lbs!)....so it looks as your gf might win! 🙂 I wouldn't mind renting a house w/a backyard....but I would need to get a roommate to help keep cost down. My fiance is probably not going to move w/me for this first year (due to his current job)....but hopefully he'll be able find a similar job in the DM area shortly!!!!!!!!

Oh yah, and don't forget the financial aid quiz you have to take. What's up w/that??! 😕

I just finished all of my financial aid stuff last night. Man, is that master promissary note stuff scary, or what? However, it is nice to have all of that out of the way. Now I just sit back and wait for my thousands of dollars 😎

Someone's lucky to be done! I just STARTED last night, & I don't know when I'll actually get it all done!!! For heaven's sake, couldn't we just do one entrance quiz? They can just revoke our licenses someday if we default! Oh well, I guess when I finally get to finish it'll be kind of nice to get all that taken care of 😱

Getting your taxes and FAFSA done is the hard part. Filling out the loan apps is a breeze. However, reading the ten or so pages of "PAY US OR WE'LL EAT YOUR SOUL, THEN TELL EQUIFAX BAD THINGS ABOUT YOU," aka your master promissary note, is quite scary. Let me know if you need any help.

Didn't so much MIND the quiz - just surprised by it since the other schools' apps were like, a 2 page breeze through. But the thing that gets me is they call it a financial aid application - it is really a LOAN application. I want financial AID, not financial debt!! LOL! :laugh:

I hope no one hangs themselves b/c I am so pathetically unable to decide b/w the school that I liked the most vs. the more practical choice (cheaper). Being indecisive can wear you out....
 
in another post somewhere, someone mentioned something about an orientation packet. did you guys get those at the visit DMU thing in early march or by mail? I haven't received anything yet.

I wondered about that too, but decided they meant all the stuff on the portal. Otherwise, nothing else has come my way... 😕
 
Hey what's up all. I haven't been on here in ages. So whoa, am I way behind or what? Should I be filling out loan application pages already? Things happen, so now I'm deciding on either DMU or U of MN, and I guess I have to figure out which school I'll be at before filling out the Stafford forms, right? Good luck with all of your forms everyone and don't forget to go on trips and spontaneous adventures before classes suck the life right out of you!

Been wondering what happened to you. Congrats on MN! I'd say fill out your FAFSA with both schools if you haven't done so already. Getting the FAFSA in and processed seems to be the limiting reagent in the financial aid equation. Then maybe call DMU and MN and see what sort of timetable you need to be on to complete Stafford and GradPlus apps ( they only take but a night to complete). I hope your choice is DMU in the end that way I have a dive bar buddy.

Yeah, Congrats, NjDOO! I hope you can make the right decision for you at this point. You definitely helped me decide on DMU & I'm sure you'll figure out which school is THE ONE for ya (hope it's DMU though). Anyways, I'm actually going to visit Des Moines tomorrow thru. thurs. for the first time following my interview back in Nov. Hope it doesn't rain too much while I'm there😱 I hope to see all you wonderful folks in the fall... It's all seeming very very real at this point!🙂

I remember a roadtrip I took with a friend right out of High school. We cruised down I-5 (we should have taken 101) from seattle to LA and I remember seeing this huge black cloud just hanging over the LA area from like 50 miles away. We couldn't believe it until we saw it with our own eyes. On a lighter note we had a blast down there though.
