Everyone, it has been an exciting year but I just found out that by some miracle I have been accepted to the University of Washington (with in state tuition) which I cannot pass up. I wish everyone the best in their medical education and future and will sincerely miss spending time with you all at DMU.

Good luck & Congrats, Fizban. You would have to be pretty stupid to pass up in-state tuition. I just looked at my 2 years + college of loans yesterday after completing the FAFSA & **whistles** it's not a pretty number. Actually it's not nearly as bad as some of my classmates b/c we live off my wife's salary but still kind of scary.

Hope everyone is enjoy wrapping up their school year. 2nd years at DMU still have 18ish exams left in < 8 weeks. It is making me nearly crazy b/c at some point board studying has to fit in which means later nights & earlier mornings. Sleep deprivation for the win!!!

MD schools piss me off right now. I will be attending DMU or the in-state MD school here. I love DMU, but in-state is cheaper and my gf is here. I am desperately awaiting either an acceptance or rejection from the MD school. This is seriously worse than the waiting I had to go through last fall to get into any medical school. Not only do I have the waiting part, but I feel like I need to "get on the ball" with my DMU stuff. I've done the FAFSA and taxes etc, but have most of you filled out financial aid packages yet? I feel way behind on this. When is the "deadline" (or when I need it in to expect any sort of money)?

I know waiting in itself isn't THAT bad, ok yeah it sucks...but here's the kicker:
As of today, my interview at this MD school was 3 MONTHS ago. That's right. 12 weeks. They told us at the interview we'd find out in 4-5 weeks. Average across all med schools is 6-8 weeks. I called at 10 weeks, talked to the DIRECTor, who said my wait was absurd, and that I would find out within 2-3 days. That was 2 weeks ago. **** on MD. I love you DMU

Right. UMass basically 'waitlists' almost everyone they interview until around now. They only accept their idea of the cream of the crop handful of people throughout the interview season. Of course, those people then decide to go to some other school they got into, thus, half of the class (50 is half) gets in off of the official waitlist. They claim this is because the state only allows them to have exactly 100 acceptance offers out there at any one time - they aren't allowed to over accept like other schools do.

There was only one interview I didn't go on because I was sick of interviews, KCUMB but, I generally give the advice to go on all of your interviews. You never know, the one school you turn down maybe excellent. Or, it may suck gonads. Either way, you are only losing money........😀

I am pretty sure these people didnt just dissappear or that they failed out, maybe there are multiple graduates that matched at the same program (especially in family or internal medicine) and were not listed twice, although they do list the same residency, so i dont know, anyone from the current class have any insights? I am pretty happy about the emergency medicine placements, and all the matches around the chicago area (UIC, Loyola, Cook county, Rush, Methodist) in fields like EM, Radiology, PM&R, Anesthesiology. 👍

Also i noticed a Dermatology placement at an allopathic institution (university of texas)....dont know what to think about that one.

Lovable, I wouldn't go to TU MI either, it will be waaayyy expensive (housing). As for KCOM, it is probably a good school, but kirksville? Stay with us, we want to anyways😉

Yah - as usual, impressive! But if the class size was really 205 or 215, we're not accounting for 40+ here - that's crazy!

If you have the money go for the interviews, it is only money. But if you are in the same situation as me, money does matter. I had an interview at Touro MI but declined it after getting accepted at DMU. I just looked at the pros and cons of each school and decided I didn't see how Touro could beat DMU. I know I did this without going there but I took into account factors that I could research without going to Touro. DMU has a whole lot to offer. It will take alot to beat it.

Personally, I just found out by email this evening that we had hired a new department head. So, I know nothing about him, or what's going to happen to woolley or fig. I really like them both, and I especially hope woolley stays around to teach, because she's incredibly knowledgeable.

I heard from my student host that each year few students dropped out due to different circumstances and also some other students take extra year to do fellowship before residency. Could those take into account? Can we just call the school and ask for these info? Would they let us know?? Any insider could help??

If you live next to Western I thinks its worth the free lunch they give you to take a look. Although i think their tuition is going to 40k, plus they are adding dental, vet , and optometry programs which might have some kind of effect on you like raising the tuition even more to help start these programs.
