I figure we should mk a thread for schools that we've gotten interview invites for but are definitely not going to. AND PLEASE call the programs as a courtesy and tell them that you arent going well ahead of time so that OTHER students (me included can get invites to places we REALLY want to go).

Invites which I'm declining: UCLA, Oregon, SUNY upstate
why? Well, I also fell victim to the 'apply wide' thing and applied. I called these schools up today and told them i'm not going. At this time w/ a handful or so of interviews I figure i'll keep the remaining spots open in my schedule for schools where I REALLY want to go. Like I said, it would be appreciated to others if we can all do the same to be courteous!

THANKS!

Many thanks from those of us still in need of some more invites!!! Best wishes... 😎

This thread is a good idea. Gives those of us with few invites a little hope. (I'll glady take your scraps!!! )

Anyway, this is a little info that some people may wish to know about...the administrator of the residency program at Mercy Pgh told me that they interview every one of their applicants. This might be helpful to some of you, since I know that if I got an interview far away, I might be tempted to go, but if I knew they were interviewing EVERYONE, it might make me think twice, unless it was someplace I really really wanted to go. I don't know if anyone else thinks this way, but I thought I would share, at any rate.

Good luck everyone.

also declining interviews from Med Coll of Wisconsin...called them today and told them.

Have declined: U Kentucky, U Louisville, Cleveland Clinic, Case Western, Ohio State, Medical U of Ohio, U Tennessee, MUSC, Emory, Mayo in Jacksonville, Baylor, UTMB, Scott & White

Wow...you've D'clined some nice ones...

Withdrew my app from U. Rochester and CCF today

also cancelled UVA today

cancelled brigham and womens

Declined Med. College of GA, Arkansas, Med. University of Ohio so far.

Will probably cancel UNM, CCF, and Pitt too very soon.

Why would you cancel BW? Have you heard terrible things?

Just curious, why U Penn?

Canceled SUNY Downstate today

It's about location. Plus I had trouble fitting it into my schedule.

Declined Maine Medical and VCU today...would have loved to go to both but, alas, both time and $ are limited.

Last year, I was on the interview circuit, now at WSU/DMC.
I was very unimpressed with Case-MetroHealth, Med Coll Wisc, Henry Ford and Med Coll Ohio (now Med Univ Ohio - They're on probation).
I wish I had not interviewed there, waste of money and time. I did not even rank them.

THANKS PASS

Last year I was also on the interview circuit and I would encourage others to avoid the University of South Florida like the plague. They are on probabtion and will likely continue to be on probabtion. Tampa is a neat city however, USF is a terrible program. I did not even rank them.

From someone who just hit the trail...

UVa is worth seeing; along with UF, Wake, Duke, 'Bama, among the best in the southeast.

for those of you guys declining/cancelling interviews by e-mail, have you gotten a response or acknowledgement that that you are no longer going? or do they just leave it at that...

declined louisville.

lol they dont even put u up for the night!!

Despite hearing about the wonderful hotel and all,
I canceled Northwestern in Chicago. I hope this helps someone else!

i love the people declining places because they dont give you a hotel night. there are alot of programs that dont do that, including those in very expensive cities, ie, NYC. if you're interested in a program i'd pay the money and check them out

Cancelled/ Passed on Houston, Baylor, Loma Linda and George Wash recently.

Comeon, be nice to the Dre-man - never got the NWU invite, but I would pass on it too not because of the hotel situation but other issues - bad pt population to train on (in my oppinion), long hours, etc - - but someone else might think that the addmittedly strong clinical experience you get from being in a program that works you hard is good, and many people might prefer the so-called 'NWU pt population' - - different strokes for different folks.

Just realized my last post made no sense- cause drdre didnt pass it up cause the hotel - (just thought Id point that out to myself publicily b4 someone else did)

Thx for getting my back. It is purportedly a great hotel for NW. I D/Cd because I really don't want to live in Chicago and becuz of location would likely be at the bottom -ONLY becuz of location.
Why go when u know it will be that low?
Not Chicago specific, either, just not a big city person (except for Compton and Inglewood)

-always up to no good.

i have family in inglewood.

anyway, i'm just giving you a hard time dre. i feel you.

Soon to be ENT? (or Gas now fo sho?)

I think we are all becoming a little apathetic now that the invites have arrived and we see how difficult it is to GO to them. My school doesn't like us to miss many days per rotation.

Right now, I am trying hard to find reasons to not go to interviews while maintaining enough so I don't have to post here in March and ask for advice on how to scramble. God forbid that happens to any of us!

Inglewood in the house! Home to massage parlors, two really good strip clubs, Century blvd with teaming prostituion to rival Hollywood in the early 80s, Hollywood park and Casino, and a Liqour store mecca. All that wrapped up in a 2 mile radius. Oh yea, it's also known for it's delicate cusine of Hong Kong Express and Taco shops.

Had to turn down UNM. I hate turning down programs that put their faith in you. Still, it's part of life and provides ops for others.

I agree, it seems weird. However, its better than going on an interview and getting ranked by a program that you have no intention of going to.

I was dead set on it until i realized I hated clinic. Pass the gas!

Hows the interviews going? As an AZCOMer you have the force!

So far so good yoda. To date I've got:

Florida
JHU
Mayo Roch
Vandy
Penn State
Michigan
UNM -declined.
UCDavis
Loma Linda
Arizona
UCLA Harbor

A good mix of top to mid-tier programs. Especially waiting on the other California programs and OHSU. Do you know Dr. Poulson from AZCOM? He's a CA2 at Michigan right now.

I'm glad this thread is going - I feel like I need a support group to help me let go and decline/cancel some interviews....I just can't bring myself to do it...what is wrong with me! I don't need 13 interviews - let go sugar let go!

Aughhh! I did it - cancelled UIC!

I know! now that I have experienced the joy of cancelling interviews - I am cancelling all of them! It is just a warm fuzzy feeling - I'll just scramble.

Just because you interview at a program does not mean that you have to rank them and thus you won't be forced to go there. Do you guys understand how the match works? I interviewed at 12 programs and only ranked 5 of them.

Declined Baystate, Boston Medical Center/BU and Western Penn. Deliberating over UT Houston, Med College of Georgia and U Maryland. 😳

I did an away rotation at UofM and worked with Dr. Poulson quite a bit. He is a great guy and an excellent resident.
