**Official Interview/Acceptance/Rejection Thread 2011-2012**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who have received interviews at UNLV, did you include the extra page for "Additional Information Please attach an additional sheet to explain any extenuating circumstances or provide the admissions committee with
additional information that may be useful in evaluating your credentials."

I didn't include any additional information and I hope it doesn't get held against me...haven't received a rejection nor interview invite yet!

I did not include any additional info other than a separate letter explaining a DUI from 2004 🙁

No interview yet, however, UNLV did call me yesterday requesting summer grades. I'm thrilled as it definitely means I'm not in the discard pile yet! My stats are not stellar. Luckily, I am a NV resident. Looks like other OOSers have heard back from UNLV about 3 weeks after their files were complete. If you took any summer courses, send new transcripts. They asked for fax of unofficial and to have official sent as well. Good luck to you!

UNLV rejection through e-mail on the same day as UConn interview invitation. I want to go to Las Vegas, too 🙁

I've got very similar stats as you, but I sent my app out in the frist batch.. still have yet to hear from anyone (besides Nova :scared:)

This thread is so quiet on weekends...

I concur. Also SDN activity slows down drastically over the weekend lol, At least for me I do not come here and check every 10 minutes Saturday and Sunday haha

Who has heard for UCLA or USC regarding their supplementals? I havent heard anything from either of them.. They give it to most applicants yeah?

If only they worked on weekends... schucks!

Ironically, I had a lot of action happening last Saturday. An email from Western and UofP!

I checked the "received" time, and it was after-hours on the weekend. Perhaps an automated system?

Since then, I have continued my SDN refreshing throughout the weekend. 😀

Nothing from MWU-AZ, or NYU yet. Am I hosed? LECOM just moved my file to review last week after a prerequisite issue. Losing confidence quickly. At least I've got a Baylor interview to look forward to. whew.

I got a supplemental from UCLA and application received email from USC on friday. I think they are giving it out to everyone. If you haven't gotten it yet, you probably will soon.

Does anybody have any idea when UoP starts sending interview invites?

On Predents.com, the earliest interview date for last year was 10/1...so probably no invites for a few weeks?

Thanks, that helps a lot. I was starting to get a little stressed about it. I got to remember that we are still in the middle of August. Some schools don't even start invites till September.

Are you serious? Mine was 7/26 and have yet to hear a peep.

Why is Indiana rejecting people with such good stats?

I was rejected in late July. I asked them why and they told me I need to shadow a "general practice dentist". I worked as a dental assistant with an orthodontist, so I didnt meet their requirement. 🙁

sorry but their reason is such a bs.

I was surprised when I first saw my rejection letter from Indiana, so I emailed them to ask them exactly what was lacking. Here's what their reply email said,

"After reviewing your outstanding credentials, the committee felt that you would most likely accept a position at your home state school. However, if you are indeed interested in attending Indiana University School of Dentistry, we would be happy to extend an interview. Please confirm your willingness to travel to Indiana to participate in our interview process."

Any thoughts on what this all means for the application process? Is it really this arbitrary that an email can change a school's mind?

lol cool 🙂

Heh. Sounds like you got rejected because they were afraid you would reject them. I guess you got an interview, if you say that you would like to attend their school. 😀

I guess it's because not many people emailed the school to ask for the reason of rejection. And your inquiry email showed that you were serious about the school.

Hahah it means they are scared you will reject them instead! I would email or even call them back and tell them you are interested in attending their school.

On another note... I just emailed them and asked why I was rejected and how to become more competitive. Here is some of what the director of admission told me:

"Thank you for your message and for your continued interest in IUSD. Per your message, I reviewed your application again. With the exception of your QR score, which falls one point below our minimum, your DAT scores are all acceptable. Your manual dexterity skills are impressive, as are your exposure to the profession and your history of involvement, service, and volunteerism. Unfortunately, your inconsistent grades concern us greatly, and your cumulative, science, and BCP GPAs all fall well below the averages of our entering class and are not competitive given the strength of this year’s non-resident applicant pool. I recommend you enter a one-year pre-professional master’s degree program in biology (nonthesis option). If you earn a 3.5 graduate GPA or higher, we would consider extending to you an invitation to interview with us. I hope this information helps you. Feel free to contact me if you have additional"

What a very kind and helpful individual! 😍 I am already impressed with the school because of their willingness to help applicants regardless of the volume they receive... some schools don't even care to give guidance to applicants. Anyhow, I am happy to know that my DAT scores are acceptable 🙂

Would you mind sharing what your QR score and GPAs were? Thanks in advance 🙂 and goodluck with interviews!

If you don't mind me asking, what undergrad do you attend?

Hello, I don't want to give out too much information to protect my identity... but I'll give you a little riddle... it's NOT one of the top 3 schools in Texas... however it just recently received Tier 1 status and it's a school known for its top notch research 😀 Hope this helps.

Would you mind sharing what your QR score and GPAs were? Thanks in advance 🙂 and goodluck with interviews!

Check out my predents profile to the left... It will answer all your questions 🙂

NguyenDDS,

Did you email the director directly or you emailed the person on aadsas school designations page?
