OFFICIAL Interview Invite Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
just wanted to update...

I got an invite from Columbia Teacher's College yesterday--it was a very general "dear applicant" mass email. Interviews are Thursday 3/1 and go until 7pm (what?!)

I also got an invite from my SUNY Albany POI--interview day is Saturday, 3/10...which is different than the 3/5 previously posted on this wall....not sure if they have 2 waves or if they changed days, but I just wanted to let any possible Albany applicants know that invites seem to still be coming!

UMKC clinical has begun phone interviews (there are no in-person interviews) and will make decisions in 1-2 weeks.

I still haven't heard anything from Rutgers. Anyone else hear anything besides the original poster? I am getting nervous, and I sent them an email this afternoon. Hopefully I should hear something tomorrow!!

Was that for the Counseling Psych Ph.D or the Clinical?

Hi everyone - this is my first post. Thank you all for the great information, it's so helpful!

I'm interviewing tomorrow at UMass Boston
March 2nd at Suffolk

Did not get invited to interview at:
-URI
-BU
-UConn
-UMass Amherst

Are you saying you did not get invites because you have not heard, ,or did you get an official notice

I got an interview at Georgia State Counseling Ph.D. program. They sent a personalized mass email. The interview day is March 2nd.

that's good since i applied to counseling psych

I'm not sure if by "Adelphia" you meant "Adelphi," but either way, Adelphi is doing group interviews between 2/26 and 3/9 (not just those two days). Hope that helps!

By the way, what materials are you bringing to interviews? I brought a ton of different things, from my vita to transcripts, but I wasn't asked for anything at my last interview. What is good to have? What have you actually been asked for?

I was just wondering if someone else who phone interviewed at Stony Brook could PM me or something to compare notes about what you were told about acceptances and dates...

I know I'm not SUPPOSED to have heard yet, but I clearly have a problem with delayed gratification. Just wanted to see what others had been told. Thanks!

For those of you who applied to TC Columbia and have not yet received an interview, I just wanted to give you some hope and let you know that I called the admissions office and interviews will continue to be extended through next Wednesday. Good luck!

Hi irish! I overprepared and had all kinds of stuff with me, but in the end the only person who asked for anything was my POI, and he wanted me to email him the electronic versions, so I didn't need to lug around a bunch of CVs and papers all day.

I was thinking it might be a good idea to just put everything I have on a thumb USB drive and take it with me. That way if anyone wants anything I can just upload it super quick, paper-free. I mean, I will take a couple of CVs with me just in case, but I am taking the USB to my next interview.

Bada bing!

I'll post this on the Canadian thread too but I just wanted to let those interested in OISE know that I just got an invitation for a phone interview with my POI...so the process has started. Good luck to everyone!

Hi, Sol, thanks for your information. Is it for counseling or clinical?

Hi! I have been reading everyone's posts for a while now, and thought I should contribute. I think that most of what I have has already been said, but it seemed that there were questions being asked about one school in particular (Rutgers). And who knows, maybe someone is wondering about one of these places...

Anyway, I too received the Rutgers (PsyD-clinical) invite, and it definitely looked like a mass email. I am sorry if this is bad news...it doesn't mean it is a lost cause though!

I have already interviewed at Pepperdine (PsyD), and have some upcoming at :
Rutgers PsyD (Feb. 26th)
Pace U. PsyD - school and child clinical (Feb. 27)
Roosevelt U PsyD (March 1)
Nova Southeastern Clinical (March 9)

I applied to many PhD programs as well and aside from NSU haven't heard a word from them...and most are done interviewing. What a bummer. For other Canadians, I am also waiting to hear from OISE and York. Good luck to the poster who heard from her OISE POI!!!

Anyway, I am happy to have finally joined this network. Best of luck to everyone!!

Has anyone heard about interviews from UT-Austin? I had a phone interview about two weeks ago and haven't heard anything since. When I called them earlier this week, the admissions department said that interviews were just beginning to go out. About how long is normal to wait to hear one way or another? I don't want to panic about this, but at the same point in time, I'd really like to know where things stood.

Philly's airport was all mucked up and my flight was canceled yesterday (after many delays, finally boarding the plane, waiting, waiting, and then told that the flight was canceled, and there's no room on any other flights until Monday!). To make matters worse, it happened too late in the day for me to make alternative travel arraignments. yuck.

So the short of it is I have to interview via phone. I don't live too far away so I can still visit the program, but probably not until after admissions decisions are made. I get the feeling this puts me at a huge disadvantage vs other applicants. I'm pretty disappointed too b/c this program seemed like a good match with my interests. Any thoughts?

Wow, the board is really slow today...You are leaving me hanging at work! What am I supposed to do if I can't compulsively check the board for new posts every five minutes? I hope that it's so empty because everybody is going on amazing interviews this weekend. Good luck to all!

I know this is off topic, but does anyone know of a thread discussing the finances of Ph.D. program. Specifically, I was browsing the median assistantship levels and realized they fall below the poverty line for a single adult. How could I make up the difference? Would I have to/is it risky for me to take out graduate school loans for six years of school? I certainly am not drawn to this field to make money but I want to be sure I could have some eventually...y'know family, security, etc. Any thoughts? Have a great weekend!🙂

Edit--Oh yeah, the reason I quoted guarinis was b/c she was bored.

Bajrinna, may I know who's ur POI? Thanks.

"Bajrinna, may I know who's ur POI? Thanks."

My POI was Prof. Beevers. Did you interview there?

The need to take out loans will be heavily dependent upon where you are going to school and if you can live frugally. Colleges in major cities are off my list for that reason. Also, don't forget that many of the stipend figures you see are for 9 months. Many programs will have summer funding available. That is certainly something you should ask about when you interview. Live cheap and have a budget plan before you go off to a program.

By the way, nothing wrong with wanting to make a good living after you spend half a decade in grad school! "Discontent for money is a trick of the rich to keep the poor without it" (can anyone guess the movie this quote is from?)😎

Ah the life of the shallow pocketed. In this regard (financial), I am so bias to public/state universities' psychology programs. I could care less about the Ph.D vs. Psy.D. debate, but the financial benefits should not be taken lightly. Advice (not that you wanted it): Find a program that will cover tuition and provide a living stipend. Be savy and find a program that will pay you to go to school. Here's a link to financial considerations

I will catch up on this list in a few days, sorry, it is going to be busy! I just wanted to let you guys know that I got an email from North Dakota with an interview invite, so if you are one of the few, the proud, the ND applicants be aware of that. The email was personally addressed but I wonder if it wasn't a form email that they sent to everyone if you know what I mean.

I live 30 minutes from the ND border. 🙂 Good luck at the interview!

Has anyone else heard from OISE?

Also, more generally, if someone has heard from your POI but you haven't, does that usually mean you are out of the running?

Sorg....tried to reply to your PM but your box is full! let me know when there's room....

Hey...did anyone apply to George Washington University's clinical PhD program? If so, have you heard anything?

received my official rejection "email" today. It was kinda nicely worded for what its worth.

Applied to the child/family track.

I applied to the child/family track also but didn't receive a rejection email. However, I haven't been asked for an interview either, and it seems like people were asked ages ago.... Anyone else in the same situation? Maybe they're holding onto some alternates....? Wishful thinking 😕

I don't know if you were asking if anyone's in the same situation with regards to Fordham, but I'm sure tons of people are in the same situation with other schools. For me, there are NINE schools that I haven't heard from yet (some of which are holding interviews this weekend and some of which will have them in a few weeks.) This is really bad for my sanity because I am quite the optimist and I really wish they would just send rejection letters already! :scared: According to the first post 7 of the schools have sent interview invites, and 2 schools are not listed at all.

To that end, here's a plea for any information on the following schools:
Western Michigan
Ohio University

. . .

I haven't heard anything yet from Western Michigan but due to some screwups made by my current university, I'm not sure if they'll even consider me now . . . even though the secretary assured me they would, so who knows. 🙁

I haven't heard anything yet....
Ditto; I haven't heard a peep, and it doesn't look like anyone else has either. Considering they had one of the earliest deadlines, it's odd that they're taking the longest to get back to people.

They extended deadlines to Jan 15th, so I wouldn't be too worried yet.

Anyone heard from Kansas (adult clinical) yet?

Hi Irish
I received a personalized email to ND's open house yesterday as well! It was probably a template with each invited applicants name at the top! Who is your POI?

I just heard from Kansas - Adult clinical - a few days ago. They're starting phone interviews this week and next. Interviews are in early March I think.

Hi everyone,

Did anyone apply to any IO Psychology programs? Has anyone heard back from any of them?

Am I invading Clinical/Counseling territory? Is there another thread for us IO people?

Yep, the invite process seems to be taking a tad longer than expected...

According to the SCCP program director you have about 10 days to hear something...so don't lose hope😎

Has anyone heard anything for the CLINICAL Ph.D. programs for:

UNM
UH
Texas A&M
