Well, it seems as though GSU only has one interview day and since I already make a prior commitment I don't know how I can attend. They seem to be willing to do phone interviews but that is def. is not the same 🙁
I really hope they allow for applicants with conflicting interviews come on another day-I am not sure that this is fair. They used to have two interview days but now only one. What to do??
 
I just received an email from my professor of interest at the University of Waterloo to set up an initial phone interview!
 
Just got an email invite to Uni. Wyoming's Clinical PhD program. Interview is 2/23.

I am also scared of on-the-spot phone interviews! You are braver than me, I still let it go to voicemail if I don't know the number! I will also be at Binghamton on 2/26-see you there!
 
I heard from U Wisconsin-Milwaukee (clinical) and was invited for their interview day 2/16! 🙂
 
Loyola College in Maryland's PsyD program sent out a mass email invite to their interview today.

I'm crushed about GSU.
 
Hey Ella. Congrats, they seem to have a great program. Did they ask you to pay the application fee yet? Their 2-part system kinda confuses me.

I received it last Monday (1/22). I wouldn't have thought to check, except that someone on live journal posted about obsessively checking her spam folder. It wasn't a form e-mail, and I'd had contact with the professor. I have no idea why my spam filter caught it. Needless to say, I check it like 1,000 times a day now.
 
7 applications, 0 invites, 1 rejection...University of Kentucky. I liked that school 🙁
 
Bummer on Duke, though I really didn't expect to hear from them anyways. Let me check the spam folder one more time.

I didn't apply to their clinical program, so there is still hope!

For all you GSU people who got interviews congrats!! For those of you who didn't (including myself)... their loss!!! I am sure it was nothin' personnal!!! But geez, helluva way to start my day..... 😉
 
I just received a phonecall inviting me to Kent State's interview weekend, which is being held February 16th & 17th. I should note, though, that phonecall seemed a bit informal (that is, not as though they were in the process of calling all invited applicants today) as it was a faculty member calling to be check if I'd be okay with speaking to multiple faculty members during the interview weekend as there are several who are interested in working with me.

Also have not heard anything from Feinberg-just noting that my status page doesn't have a link to "view decision" either. Arrgh! 😡

My understanding is that you only pay the fee once you are accepted. Not confusing, at all...actually kind of awesome!:luck:

what are people's thoughts on staying with a student host if that is a possibility? I was going to stay with my brother at one school I have an interview at but now I am thinking if I don't stay with a student I am at a disadvantage. I think I might be analyzing this whole process just a little too much but it's so competitive and I don't want to do anything that might hurt me.

It's best not to get too caught up in it. But I think you are best off staying with students. They'll help you get a better feel for the program, answer questions you might have about Professor X, and hopefully assuage some of your anxieties going into interviews. Also, these will be you colleagues potentially, so it would be good to see if you mesh well with them.

My two cents, after the interview, feel free to stay with whomever, but I think the night before it would be a good idea to stay with a current grad student.

how did you find out that you were rejected from temple?

it has no decision on my temple online application status... but i haven't gotten a call for an interview

any thoughts?

I've heard that if you do NOT stay with a student, when offered, that it reflects poorly on you -- that you are too much of a prince/princess to need a hotel.

I disagree with that - there are many reasons why you choose not to stay with a grad student... for example, you might be coming with a significant other or you are arriving late in the evening the night before the interview, or you could have a long flight and need your rest.

I think it's definitely an advantage to stay with a student and it's wonderful that the school offers to host you (since it's not cheap or easy to find your own accomadation), but I think your comment is pretty harsh...

Does anyone know when Baylor is sending out invites? I've gotten 4 interviews and 1 rejection (from my safety school..wierd) and I just want a few more so I can feel confident about getting an offer somewhere!
Oh and I would definitely stay with the grad student if you can. I did at my first interview and it was so helpful..they told me about what each professor looked for and how to interact with each..do it if you can!
 
It's only harsh if you took what I said personally, I suppose. I was just stating what I had heard, and I prefaced my statement with that exact phrase.

As I am sure you are already aware of, as you cited them in your reply to me, there are always extenuating circumstances.

It sounds like your safety school probably reviewed your application and then banked on you being such a strong applicant that you would have other (read: better) offers. Nothing weird about it...a feather in your cap! GOOD LUCK!:luck:

Just called the coordinator at BU. She said that official rejection letters unfortunately don't go out until the end of march, bu that they have already invited "99%" of applicants invited to interview. she also said that they will all definitely be sent out by the end of this week, and probably bt the end of tomorrow. One more thing....she said that about 600 rejections will go out. that number seems a bit high, doesn't it? either way, sounds like a very competitive application pool

I've been checking my Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine application page and no decision has been made yet. I think this year Northwestern is cutting out rejection letters in the mail- which is fine- as long as they notify you via your application. Frankly, I don't know why more schools don't do this anyway- you guys know what I mean? Most of the online application formats are made with "Status" functions- I think it would make it easier and cheaper for most schools to notify you electronically- they might even be able to do it faster (i.e. before April!). This seems to me a much more efficient mode to contact applicants, especially for those schools who don't even send out rejection notices! I saw one person who posted that said they even INTERVIEWED with a school and was never even contacted again. I really feel for ya!

It's not going to hurt you to stay in a hotel.

It's a financial courtesy to offer a place to stay with a grad student. I would much prefer a hotel but will stay with grad students when possible (hopefully not a slob with cats running around) to save money.

I think it totally depends on your situation at each interview. If you are the kind of person who would feel really uncomfortable staying with random people, or like another person posted, you have a really late flight or something, staying with graduate students might not be for you.
I will also mention that I've read a LOT about interviews (if I ever get one, I think I'll be REALLY prepared), and a lot of people recommend staying with students the night before because most of them will be really helpful and give you an idea of what you're about to go through, or what to watch out for.
Good luck to you on your interviews (whoever you stay with)!

I am going to an interview at U of Indianapolis soon, and I opted to stay with a current student. The way I see it, it saves on money, I can ask questions of a current student about the program and get real answers (sometimes I wonder about those student panels, but only sometimes) and they can give you details about the city's life and any tangential concerns about moving to a new place. I think its always a good idea to do it if you can, but some people are very particular about their sleeping habits and that kind of stuff so I can understand not wanting that.

Thanks🙂 I went ahead and emailed the school to tell them I wanted to stay with a student. I agree that it will probably help to get some insider info from the students before the actual interview and I can always stay an extra night to spend time with my brother. Anyone heard from the Uni of Tennessee clinical phd program yet?

I have some conflicting interview dates and I was wondering what my chances of getting called for Tennessee is (their interview is also that same weekend).

I called U of A. Their interview weekend is the 23rd to the 24th. They are not done sending out invites (yay!). Rejection letters will begin going out next week and continue through the end of March, depending on where you stand in the applicant pool.
 
Wow, I just got off the phone with my new POI at SDSU/UCSD and have an interview will interview on 2/19 through 2/20. This school is one of my top choices and I am psyched!!!!
 
For those of you who have called to ask about your status, how are you phrasing your question? I'd like to call a couple of schools, but I'm nervous that I'll get flustered and come off like an idiot.
 
sorg, I too am extremely interested in ucsd/sdsu. do you know how far along they are in their process? Do you think they are about done sending invites? Did they just call you out of the blue, or had you already received an email?

That's exactly how I feel about it! Even without our neuroses about the whole process, you'd think that online notification would be so much simpler! Especially since most schools are doing online applications now. Why waste time and paper with snail mail notices?

More evidence that we SDNers are pretty much all of one mind when it comes to this process...

Here's how it when down: I got a voicemail, out of the blue, from a faculty member who felt our research interests matched well. He invited me for the interview and then I got an email confirming the invite. He said the admissions committee reviewed the applications yesterday, so if you haven't got a call yet I wouldn't worry. (easy for me to say, i was worried a couple hours ago). Good luck!
 
I'm doing a little investigating, I hope to have answers to whether all interviews were extended yet for U Denver and NW-Feinberg and Temple (developmental). I'll edit as I get info.
 
Temple had something on its webpage that if you were not offered an interview by january 19, that you were no longer being considered, so i am taking that as a rejection.

Baylor had to move their entire clinic at the beginning of the month. I called them last Monday and they haven't even reviewed apps yet. They said they will be calling mid feb. So you can relax until then!
