OFFICIAL Interview Invite Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got an email interview invite today from Buffalo's combined counseling/school psych program. The interview is on March 2nd, although they are holding interviews both March 2nd and March 3rd. Just need to come up with money to go!

Jeepers! Director of the program I'm interviewing with on Monday just sent my personalized schedule. I get to interview with SEVEN (7) professors. I believe that just about makes up the entire department. 😱 I hope they do not expect me to remember all of their research interests.

I've had two interview offers and a rejection letter. All of my applications are for counseling PhD interviews. Maybe this will help update the list:

SUNY Albany - interview 3/5
Fordham - interview 2/13
Oregon - rejection letter 2/9

I also spoke to an admissions officer at Teacher's College who said they will be reviewing counseling applications through Tuesday. There is light at the end of the tunnel folks.

Thirded--we wanna know! 😀 So much for the snail mail notifications, eh?

it's weird, every time i feel like i have some grasp on how schools are going to do something, they seem to trick me. grrr. 😛

Yeah, my interview on Monday is with about 5 professors and 6 grad students. Ack! But luckily I have til then to prepare.

I tried to reply to your PM but your box is full and I got bounced out! I'll be back on tonight and will try again then.

Make a cheat sheet....that's what I did. Know your main people (obviously), but write down something about each one.

AHHH!!! Now I really know what the whole "pins and needles" expression means. I interviewed at NYU yesterday, and LOVED IT! They said they would make their admissions decisions the same day, and get back to the accepted and waitlisted students "very soon" by phone. But what does "very soon" mean!? Are we talking hours, days, weeks...? AHHH!

I have interviews at Florida and Georgia School of Professional Psychology, has anyone interviewed with either of these two schools yet? Any tips on what I should expect and what you liked about the school?😕

Just got my MSPP invite for interview on 3/3/07. Anyone know what percent get in after interview?

I got my accepted to MSPP a couple of weeks ago. I know that they only accept about 30-40 doctoral applicants out of about 300-400 who apply. The entering class consists of primarily doctoral students and the rest are getting their masters.

I was wondering, for the people out there whose second time around this is: Did you apply only to doctorate programs previously?

I was told to do a mix of MA and Psy.D/Ph.D to best ensure acceptance, but i'm still 1 for 3 right now, the 1 being an interview that did not go well.

I dont think if I get rejected from all i'll have enough energy to do this all over again next year

howd you do it?

This is my second time applying. The key is to know what you want to do for the next five or so years. PhD and Psy.Ds are entirely different. Last year I applied just to get in somewhere, and I did. I got into the University of Memphis and rejected the offer bc it was a purely research school. I can do research but I do it grudgingly. This year I applied to a few PhD programs and 3 PsyD programs that specialize in neuropsych. I got interviews to all three PsyD programs but none of the PhD progrmas. It's important to know your end goal so you can determine the most parsimonious route to take in order to achieve.

Thanks for all of the updates. Since I have been reading the posts I figured I would offer a little info as well.

I applied last year to only Clinical Ph.D. programs and did not receive any interviews. (I also had not taken the psych subject test and did not contact and POI)

Regardless, I applied to 13 schools this year, with a variety of Clinical Ph.D., Psy.D., and Counseling Ph.D.

I have interviews at:

Univ. of Hartford Psy.D (was on Friday)
Fordham Counseling (2/13)
Pace University *School-Clinical Child Psy.D. (2/15)
Yeshiva U. *Clinical Health Ph.D. (2/20)
Adelphi U. (3/3)
URI (3/5) *Got a phone call from admissions and an email.
MSPP (3/10)

Still have not heard from a few but is a lot better than the zero I had last year!

I applied to Easterm Mich and haven't heard anything yet. I am really hoping to get an interview, it seems like a good program. Just curious, on their statement.....did you have room or think it was appropriate to name a professor? I was encouraged to apply by one of the faculty and thought it was better to address information more relevant to the question, but am curious about how others approached it as it was completely different than the other statement questions I had encountered.

I felt that the application did not give space to say a lot of things that I had wanted to say, so I crammed as much in as possible. After speaking with the program director, I got the impression that it was not appropriate to name professors. I was nervous about this, but I was also happy to have the space to say other things.

Has anyone been invited to interview at SUNY Albany's clinical program? Thanks!

Hey, first time poster here...

Anyone here apply to UT-Austin's Clinical program and list Fromme as your POI?

If so, have you heard anything?

I wasjust wondering where the info on the first page about University of Florida came from. Their website says they dont have interviews (in the clinical and health psych dept.) but they have a recruitment weekend in march. anyone have any details on that?

I was wondering if anyone applied to Columbia University Teacher's College clinical psych program, and if so, if you've heard about interviews yet?

Thanks.

Has anyone got interviews or heard back from Wayne State or University of Cinn? Thanks!

I did, and haven't heard anything...although a previous poster on this board said that they knew someone who had received an invitation. Not sure what's going on at this point, though.

This Wednesday, I got a letter dated 2/3 from the department of clinical and health psychology at the university of florida saying "...as we continue our admissions process, we have invited selected applicants for interviews during our Visitation Weekend on March 9-10, 2007...".

It then went on to say that I was not invited but, as an alternate, might be phone interviewed as late as April 13.

Hey, does anyone know if CUNY's clinical psych PhD program provides any form of funding support? Do all students get full funding? Thanks!

This process is starting to get a little ridiculous. I actually became nauseous when I heard that U of Mich had extended interviews for their dual program. It is my top choice and, as I haven't received a rejection letter yet, I really started thinking that I might get an interview! 🙁

Any more word on whether invites were only for the dual program or for the general clinical program? I haven't received a rejection letter from them yet either, so I am still holding out hope. (I applied to the general program.) Anyone called them? Anyone want to? 😉

Seriously ... I haven't heard from U Michigan, SUNY-Stony Brook, or U Washington, and I am considering making some calls on Monday. (I know I am out of the running for UMBC, which is unfortunate - it was one of my top choices.)

Please post if you do. I'd be curious about these schools as well!

I got a Baylor invite today! It looked like a mass email but it was in my spam box so definitely look there.

Washington's interview weekend is the first weekend in March. Invites are going out slowly (whatever that means).

Hey, does anyone know if CUNY's clinical psych PhD program provides any form of funding support? Do all students get full funding? Thanks!

The graduate student I met with said that there is better funding now than when she started. she *claimed* that they offer a three year funding guarantee package, with the first year covered with no TA responsibilities, and the next two with TA sections, all three years stipend of 17,500 ea. so, if she's right, that's not bad, from what I've seen. She says that they used to send acceptances separate from funding offers, so you have to immediately call them to get a sense of whether they will offer funding or not and whether it looks the way she described it. CUNY seems to be pretty hands-off, but if you're willing to work it, it sounds like they've got funding available. good luck! I'm in the same boat. trying to figure out whether it'll be possible to live in nyc on a stipend...

Did the email from URI seem to be a form or was it personalized? I've been hoping to get an interview invite from them, and just wonder how much/little to keep up the hope. Any info from anyone else who heard from them is much appreciated.😕

Has anyone got interviews or heard back from Wayne State or University of Cinn? Thanks!

I also applied to Wayne State, and I have heard nothing. I'll post as soon as I do.

Teacher's College invited some people last week but they may not be done yet. Hang in there!

While I would like to think the list is pretty accurate, I know that there are a lot of inaccuracies in it right now. For instance, I may have put about when invites would come out, but I didn't change it when they actually did (or it didn't make it to the message board) so it still says that when interview invites are out, you know? Not sure if that makes sense or not.

Anyways, if you would, PLEASE look at the list and check the schools you know something about and if something is inaccurate please let me know either by posting in this tread or by PM. I would really appreciate the help because I want to make sure the list is as accurate as possible! Thanks!

I received a phone call from Sam Houston's clinical phd program a few weeks ago inviting me to their interview weekend on 2/23-24. Did anyone else?

Has anyone got interviews or heard back from Wayne State or University of Cinn? Thanks!
I have yet to hear from University of Cincinnati as well. I have yet to hear a peep, but will be sure to post as soon as I do.

No I have no received any rejections. But recalling from last year a lot of places never sent rejections!

It was a general email that I am sure they sent to everyone. They called late on Friday so maybe they are not done inviting yet.

I JUST received an email from my POI at Delaware inviting me for an interview--there are 3 possible dates: Feb 23, Feb 26, and March 2.

Congrats!

And thanks for the info... though I am not applying to Delaware, all information seems useful at this point 🙂

Has anyone been invited, accepted, or rejected by Univ. of Houston's Clinical Psych program?

What about Texas A&M or UT-Austin (Clinical)?
