Yeah. The MOST I'm going to interview is 12-13, so the others are one's that I know I probably wouldn't go. I want to free up space for them to be able to offer them to others. As I get new options that I really want, I'll cancel ones that I don't want as much. Make sense?

Basically, at any given time, I should only have 12-14 options out there. No need keeping others if I know that there are 12-14 programs that I'd chose over them.

CS

Sounds good.. I will be doing similar things in early November.. Still need some of those personal issues to get resolved. They will def be resolved by Nov 10th. Any additional interviews at that time will be cancelled. My question is this.. if you havent set up the interviews is it still common courtesy to call/email them ahead of time? I think I will take this approach anyhow but wondering if this is the "right" thing to do.

Dude! I'm pretty sure you're the first to call Fatty McFatty on yourself. 🙂

Strong work.

Thank you. If I am indeed the first then I am honored. After I realized I had all but become that which I hate. Namely the "here's my GPA and BOARD SCORES do you think I will get into X residency" poster. I felt I had to humble myself and come clean to the board and admit to my Mcfattyness before instant karma came and got me and caused a short in my laptop which fried my giblets.

I am. "But I'm tryin Ringo.... I'm tryin real hard"

Lastly, DrKP, you had me rolling with your last post.

See PD's!!! I'm telling ya.... MANY MANY virtues. So far we have humor and humility. 😉 If you don't believe I'm awesome then just ask my mommy.

P.S I am ALL about starting the Residency Interview Exchange program. Of course I guess I gotta have one before I can trade one. Will anybody make me an offer on my Emory email?

someone mentioned that some programs are still looking at transcripts...

does that mean that the programs are "examining" my transcripts even though they have already downloaded it, or does that mean that they are still waiting for them to be UPLOADED...

reason why I ask is because my transcriipt has been downloaded by programs for quite some time now...

just wondering if someone could elaborate on this

They may be downloaded but there is usually a committee that gets together to review them and decide who will be offered interviews. Like was said above, Wake does not usually offer interviews until after deans letters are out.

I didn't read all nine pages so I may be missing an inside joke, are people really getting Emory interviews already?

No, they just sent out an email saying they wouldn't send out invites for several weeks. It was just like Indiana's letter.

Weird question.. Where does the "strong work" EM thing come from. Every EM doc I have worked with/been around uses this. Is this our inside lingo? Kinda weird.... makes sense but weird..

No all that shabby of a list for a DO applicant from Texas! But I won't pretend not to be jealous of those with the long lists. Its not the size of the list that matters.....at least that's what my wife says

Nah... "strong work" was definitely around before Scrubs. Maybe a House of God thing?

To stay on topic... My PD just downloaded and we haven't sent interviews out yet. Congrats to those who've gotten interviews! Don't stress to those still waiting!

What is an SLOR?

Standardized Letter of Rec. It's what most of the ED doc's use for LOR's. If you do a web search you can pull one up, it's nothing fancy. Some use it, others don't, just depends on the doc.

I'm super jealous for the Wake interview, hope that I get an invite as it is high on my list 🙂

They have the SLOR at cordem.org good luck... hmm I expect a little quiet period before the true insanity breaks out After Nov 1.

Is the SLOR preferred by PDs?

And is SLOR the same thing as a CORD letter? I only have one, from my school. The other EM letter is a regular letter. Should I try to get a 2nd SLOR?

Good luck to everyone!

the SLOR is the CORD form. I think it is preferred but others are ok.. As far as a 2nd SLOR I dont think i would worry about it but of course i dont really know.

Some of you people have way too many interviews scheduled and need to consider canceling some. Interviewing can be tiring, and you'll end up canceling interviews later on. So cancel them now and give others a chance to interview.

That was my plan! I'm not keeping more than 12 - which may still be too many - but that's how many interviews I'd ideally like to do.

All mine will be dropped soon too. I wont be doing many but I have a rather unique family situation so I cant drop them quite yet. 1st 2 weeks of Nov will make things much clearer. Believe me I am not one to limit the opportunity of others.

Email is totally cool..
That makes my day! (well, what's left of it anyway)

One more question: Would it be too weird to post dates of interviews so we'd know if we were meeting a fellow SDNer? I do like the beauty of anonymity, but curiosity may get the best of me.

I would say do it if you want and then others can do the same if they want. Ill likely post mine as the dates near.. Not this far out cause who knows if it will change.

Congrats on the interviews guys. Big time of medschool. Read the last two pages, lots of invites out already. Programs usually send their first rounds of interviews out until late November. Talked to my program coordinator today who said that they (well known program in Rocky mountains) wait to download all Dean's letters on Nov.1 then she spends 3 days printing and stapling then gets the entire package out to committee members to review. Usually takes until around mid-November. Once all reviewed, invites go out. Just FYI that's how one program does it but obviously each has their own method.

And my 2 cents on other subjects brought up last 2 pages:
- 12 interviews seems like it usually ends up being people's max. You just get burnt out and sick of it.
- Email interview cancellations are just fine.
- If you've gotten zero interviews at this point wouldn't hurt to pick a program, contact them, and make sure some computer somewhere didn't dump your application someplace. That way you'll at least know things are where they should be.
- You really should have your whole app other than Dean's letter in by this point. If not you're only doing yourself a disservice. If it's a letter you might want to let the letter writer know this. If it's a transcript, you're paying the student affairs office to do their job. If something else, it's all on you.
- This website is super-stressful. Addictive at this particular point in your lives, but stressful.
